25 Step 2 Frame a Picture Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Digital Zoom When the camera is zoomed in to the maximum optical zoom position, holding down the g button triggers di gital zoom. The subject is magnified up to 4× the maximum optical zoom ratio.

30 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Using the F lash The flash has a range of about 0.5–8.0 m (1.6–26.2 ft.) when the camera is zoomed out all the way. With maximum optical zoom applied, the range is about 0.5–3.5 m (1.6–11.4 ft.) (when ISO sensitivity is set to Auto ).

33 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Macro Mode Macro mode is used for taking pictures of objects as clo se as 3 cm (1.2 in.). Note that the flash may be unable to light enti re subject at distances of less than 50 cm (1 ft. 8 in.). 1 Press p (macro mode).
34 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Exposure C ompensation Exposure compensation is used to alter exposure from the value suggested by the camera to make pictures brighter or darker. 1 Press o (exposure compensation). The exposure compensa tion guide is displayed.

50 Shooting in Smile Mode Automatic Shooting of a Smiling Face C Face Priority and Smiling Face Detection Features When the camera is poin ted at a face looking toward the camera in smile m ode, the face is automatically recogni zed and the smiling face of the recognized one is detected.
51 More on Playback More on Playback V iewing Multiple Pictures: T humbnail Playback Press the f ( h ) button in full-frame playback mode ( A 28) to display pictures in “contact sheets” of thumbnail images. The following operations can be perf ormed while thumbnails are displayed.
52 More on Playback T ak ing a Closer L ook: Playback Zoom Pressing the g ( i ) button during full-frame playback mode ( A 28) zooms the current pict ure, with the center of the picture displayed in the mon itor. The guide at lower right shows which portion of the picture is enlarged.

54 Editing Pictures More on Playback Enhancing Brightness and Contrast: D-Lighting D-Lighting can be used to create copies with enhanced brightness and contrast, brightening dark portions of a picture.

56 Editing Pictures More on Playback Resizing Pictures: Sma ll Picture Create a small copy of the cu rrent picture. Small copies are stored as JPEG files with a compression ratio of 1:16. The following sizes are available. 1 Select the desired picture from full-frame ( A 28) or thumbnail ( A 51) playback mode and press the d button.
57 More on Playback V oice Memos: Recording and Pla yback Use the camera’s built-in mi crophone to record voice memos for pictures marked with n in full-frame playbac k mode ( A 28). Recording Voice Memos A voice memo, up to 20 seconds in length, will be recorded while the k butt on is hold down.
58 More on Playback V iewing Pictures b y Date In list by date mode, pictures taken on a specified date can be displayed. In full- frame playback mode, just as with playback mo de, picture display can be enlarged, pictures can be edite d, voice memos can be recorded or played back, and movies can be played back.
59 Viewing Pictures by Date More on Playback Using List by Date Mode The following operations are possible from the date selection screen. B Notes on List by Date Mode • Only the most recent 9,000 pictures can be di splayed in list by date mode. • Pictures taken with no d ate stamp are not listed in this mode.

61 Movies Movies Recor ding Movies To shoot movies with s ound recorded via the built-in micropho ne, select shooting mode and follow the steps below. 1 Enter movie mode by pressing the e button in shooting mode, selecting D (use the rotary multi selector), and then pressing the k button.
62 Movies The Movie Menu Movie options and Autofocus mode ( A 62) settings can be changed in the movie menu. Press the d button in movi e mode to display the movie menu and use the rotary multi selector to modify and apply settings. D Selecting Movie Options The movie menu offers the options shown below.
63 Movies Movie Playback In full-frame playback mode ( A 28), movies are recognized by the movie mode icons. To play a movie, display it in full-frame playba ck mode and press the k button. Use the zoom buttons, the g or f button, t o adjust playbac k volume.

To specify paper size usi ng printer settings, choose Default in the paper size menu. 4 Choose Print selection , Print all images or DPOF printing and press the k butt on.

Flash will be switched off when Continuous or BSS is selecte d. Focus, exposure, and white balance are fixed at the values for the first picture in each series.

90 Shooting Options: The Shooting Menu Shooting, Playback, and Setu p Menus G AF Area Mode Use this option to determine where the camer a focuses. When digital zoom is in effect, the ca mera will focus on the subjec t in the center focus area regardless of the applied AF ar ea mode option.
