Connect one end of the handset cor d to the handset jack (identified with a handset icon) on the back of the telephon e. Connect the other end to the jack on the handset ( see Figure 3 on page 15 ).

Log into your IP Phone 2004 16 Log into your IP Phone 2004 This section describes the navigation scr eens that appear when you are logging into an IP Phone 2004. 1. The following screen appear s only if a firmware upgrade is available: Press Ok to go to the upgrade confirmation screen or press Cancel to proceed with the login.

The check mark shows that this is your current selection.

If you have Auto Login enabled, y ou will automatically be logged back into the IP Client Manager on ce the terminal becomes a vailable again .

Perform an upgrade 65 Perform an upgrade Upgrades are only presen ted to you if your firmware is at a lower level than recommended by the IP Client Manager. When an upgrade is occurring, your phone will reboot and temporarily be unavailable. Use the following procedure if you require a firmware upgrad e.

Place a call on hold Use the Hold feature when talkin g on one line and a noth er call arr ive s on a second line. Reta in the original call by putt ing it on hold and then answer the second call.

Use Call Forward Call Forward allows you to forward inco ming calls to another extension within the system. Outgoing calls ca n still be placed from your telephone when Call Forward is activated.

Set up a Conference call The Conference featur e enables you to add up to five people to an established call (either in ternal or external).

Use Call Join If you are talking with a person and have another person on hold (on another line), you can join both parties into a Con ference call.

Additional features and controls 91 Use your inbox Once you assign a DN key as an inbox, the IP Phone 2004 logs all incoming calls to that DN. The system logs the incoming key n umber, time and date, as well as the display shown on the IP Phone 2004 at the time of the incoming call.

Accessories 97 Accessories IP Phone Key Ex pa nsion Module (KEM) The Nortel IP Phone Key Expansion Module (KEM) is an optional hardware module that provides addition al line appearances and feature keys on your IP Phone 2004. You can connect up to two KEMs to your IP Phone 2004, providing a total of 44 additional keys (that is, 22 keys per KEM).

Terms you should know 99 T erms you should know Auto Hide Auto Hide enables features to appear on your display on ly when they are available for use dependi ng on the state of your phone and administrator settings. Auto Login Any maintenance activity requires a user to be logged out forcibly (for example, a firmware upgrad e).
Terms you should know 100 Directory key Enables access to the Directory . Directory Number (DN) A number consisting of one to seven digit s for a telephone. Also known as an extension number . Feature display An area that shows status infor mat ion abo ut th e featur e in use.
Terms you should know 101 Information display Any display of call activity , lists, prompts, and st atus of calls. On the IP Phone 2002, the information area is a 1-line by 24-charact er disp lay . If the text message exceed s this ar ea , a scroll arrow icon indicates that you must use the scroll keys to view the remaining text.
Terms you should know 102 Primary directory number The main extension numb er on your telephone. Programmable line (DN)/featur e keys (self-labeled) The six keys located at the sides of the upper area of the display . Quit key A fixed key on your telephone that is used to exit applications.
