7 Preparat ions 3. Inserting the Memory Card. 1. Insert the memory card until it clicks into place. 2. Close the memory card slot/battery cover. To Remove the Memory Card Push the memory card with your finger until the memory card clicks and then release it.
8 First Time Settings Setting the Date/Time 1. Press the power button ( a ). 2. Use th e or button to select an item and the or button to cha nge its value ( b ). To set the daylight saving option, select the icon and use the or button to configure the setting.

The start-up sound will play and the start - up image will display in the LCD monitor. • Pressing the power button again turns the power off. • Pressing the power button while pressing and holding t he DISPLAY button will turn on the mute setting which will mute all sounds except for warning sounds.

Reviewing an Image Right After Shooting After a shot is taken, the image appears in the LCD monitor for approximately 2 seconds.
12 Shooting Modes Auto The camera autom atically selects settings. Image zone When a shooting mode appropr iate for the sh ooting condition s is selected, the camera automati cally adjusts se ttings for optimal shooting. (Spec ial Scen e) You can shoot with th e most appr opriate settings for the scene.
13 Shooti ng Imag e zone Stitch A ssist Allows you to sh oot overlapp ing images that can l ater be merged (stitched ) to create one panoramic i mage on a computer.
14 Using the Zoom 1. Press the zo om lever toward or . The zoom can be adjusted from 35 – 210 mm (f ocal length) in 35mm film equivalent terms. The zoom bar appears when you press the zoom lever. Using the Flash 1. Press the button ( a ) and use the or button to switch between modes ( b ).
15 Shooti ng Setting the Red-Eye Reduction Function You can set whether the camera automatically performs red-eye reduction when the f lash fires. * T his reduces l ight reflec ting back from th e eyes and mar king them appear red . 1. (Rec.) M enu [Red-Eye] [On]*/[Off].
16 Shooting Close-ups (Macro) 1. Press the butt on ( a ) and use the or button to display ( b ). When using the zoom in macro mode, a yellow bar appears below the zoom bar to indicate the range in which you cannot use macro mode to sh oot the subject.
17 Shooti ng Using th e Se lf-Ti mer 1. Press the button ( a ) and use the or button to display , or ( b ). • When the shut ter button is pressed fully, the self-tim er lamp will blink. When using red-eye reduction, the s elf-timer lamp will blink and then stay lit for the last 2 seconds.
18 Changing the Delay Time and Number of Shots ( ) 1. (Rec.) Menu [S elf- timer] FUNC./SET butto n. 2. Use the or button to select [Delay] or [Shots] and the or button to change th e setting and press the FUNC./SET bu tton. 3. Press the MENU button.
19 Playback/ Erasing 2. Use the or b utton to displa y the image you wi sh to view ( b ). • Use t he button to move to the previous image and the button to move the next image. • Holding the button down advances the images more rapidly, but shows them les s clearly.
20 Settings for the shooting, playback or print modes or such camera settings as the date/time and sounds are set using t he FUNC., Rec., Play, Print, Set up or My Camera menu. FUNC. Menu This menu sets many of the common shooting functions. a Turn the shooting mode dial to the desired mode.

27 Downloading Image s to a Computer 2. Connecting the camera to a computer. 1. Use the supplied i nterface cable to connect the computer’s USB port t o the camera’s DIGI TAL terminal. Slide the camera’s terminal cover, lift it open and plug th e interface cable in all t he way.
28 Downloading Images to a Computer A window allowing you to set the preferences will appear when a connection is established between the camera and computer. 1. Select [Canon Ca meraWindow] and click [OK] (firs t time only). 2. Download the images . • Download the images using the camera or the computer.
29 Downloading Image s to a Computer Downloading Images to a Comput er The following window will appear w hen you establish a connection between the camera and computer. If it fails t o appear, click the [Canon CameraWindow] icon on the Dock (the bar which appears at the bottom of the des ktop).
30 Downloading Images Using the Camera (Direct Transfer) Use this metho d to download image s using camera ope rations. Install the supplied software and adjust the computer settings before using this method for the first time (p. 26). 1. Confirm that the Direct Transfer menu is disp layed o n the camera ’s LCD monitor.
31 Downloading Image s to a Computer Select & Transfer/Wallpaper 2. Select or , and p ress the button (or the FUNC./SET button). 3. Select image s to downlo ad and p ress the button (or the FUNC./SET butto n). • The images will download. The button will blink blue while downloading is in progress.
