11 English GETTING THE MOST OUT OF Y OUR CAMERA Y our camera is a digital mo vie camera with the ability to shoot and pla y back video clips with high image quality . Video clips can be recorded at a 60 fps frame rate with a 16:9 aspect ratio , and in addition, video clips recorded at 30 fps can be play ed back at 60 fps.

English 20 INST ALLING THE CARD Be sure to f ormat a newly purchased card or one that wa s used in another device bef ore using it in your camera (page 142 ). If an unf ormatted card is used, th e card itself ma y becom e unusable. 1 Ope n the card slot cover, and insert the card in the card slot.
21 English INST ALLING THE CARD <T o remove the card... > h T o remove the card, pr ess it down , and then re lease. The card will protrude slightly , and you can then pull it out. CA UTION Do not attempt to for cibly r emove the car d. i Doing so ma y damage the card or the stor ed data.
English 22 PREP ARING THE DOCKING ST A TION The supplied doc king station is used to conn ect your camer a to a computer , printer or TV , as well as to charge the battery pack installed in the camer a. 1 Connect the docking station to a power outlet.
23 English PREP ARING THE REMO TE CONTROL UNIT The remote control unit can be used to tak e pictures and pla y them back with the camera. Inser t the batt ery Install the supplied battery (CR2025) in the remote contr ol unit. 1 Pull out the battery case.
English 24 How to use th e remote contr ol uni t The remote control unit can be used at an angle that is displaced 15 degrees horizontally from the remote control sensor on the front of the camera, at a distance of up to 7 meter s.

29 English PREP ARING THE PO WER When using a po wer outlet P ow er to the camera can be suppli ed from a pow er outlet if the doc king station or the cab le adaptor is used. Using the doc king station Use the supplied po wer cord to connect the docki ng station to a pow er outlet, and set the camera in the doc king station.

31 English TURNING THE CAMERA ON AN D OFF T urning on the camera when the power sa ve (sleep) function is a ctive In order to preserve battery pac k power , the power save (sleep) function will automaticall y turn off the camera after one minute of no use during shooting, or five minutes of no use during pl a yback (factory-preset setting).
English 32 HINT T o immediately act ivate the power save functi on i Press the ON/OFF button briefly to activ e the power sav e function. About the standby mode i T o tur n of f the camer a only briefl y , y ou can close the monitor unit t o put the camera in the stan dby mode.
33 English TURNING THE CAMERA ON AN D OFF Caution when using the monito r i If an image is continuously display ed f or an extended period of time, it may result in a burn-in* eff ect on a part of the camera’ s monitor. T o pre ven t burn-in, it is recommended that y ou av oid prolon ged displa y of a still image or paused image .
English 34 OPERA TION BUTT ONS The procedures to change the camer a settings , choose images, etc., ar e perf ormed by using the SET but ton to control the monitor displa y . This operation is used v ery frequently , so it is best to become f amiliar with it right away .
35 English OPERA TION BUTT ONS <Select the icon to the left or right> T o select the icon to the right, toggle the SET bu tton to the right. T o select the icon to the left, toggle the SET bu tton to the left . <Actuate the selected icon> Press the SET b utton.
English 36 D A TE AND TIME SETTING The camera will record the date and time an image or audio recording is taken so that y ou can disp la y them during pla yback. Theref ore, bef ore capturing images, mak e sure the correct date and time are set. Example: T o set the clock to 7:30 p .

39 English BASIC OPERA TION BEFORE T AKING PICTURES How to hold the camera Hold the camera securely , keeping your elbows c lose to your body and making sure the came ra is stable. Make su re that the lens and f lash are not b lock ed b y yo ur fingers or the str ap .
English 40 Using the autof ocus The autofocu s will work in almost all si tuations; howeve r , there a re certain conditions that may cause the autofocus function to not work properly . If the autofocus function is not w orking properl y , set the focus range to capture images (page 79).

English 52 SEQUENTIAL SHO TS Y our camera is capab le of capturing both standard se quential shots and auto brac ket shot s (sequential images as the e xposure changes). The procedure below e xplains how to tak e standard se quential shots . F or inf o rmation concerning auto brac k et shots , please see page 87.
53 English SEQUENTIAL SHO TS 5 Release the still image shooting button. h Shooting ends . h The pla yback pr ocedure f or images in a sequential shots series is the same as for single- shot still images (page 48).
English 54 RECORDING IN THE HD MODE In addition to the stan dard video clip recording mode (normal mode, aspect ratio 4:3), y our camera can also record video clips in the wide-screen mode (HD mode) with an aspect rat io of 16:9. Switching between the normal mode and HD mode 1 Pr ess the ON/OFF button for at least 1 second to turn the camera on.

English 60 USING THE ZOOM Y our camera has two z oom functions: optical zoom and digit al zoom. Y ou can specify whether or not the digi tal z oom is enab led (page 129). 1 Point the camera le ns at the subject. 2 Pres s [T] or [W] on the zoom switch to compose the desired image.
61 English SHOO TING WITH THE FLASH The flash is used not only f or taking pict ures where there is insuffici ent light, but also when t he subject is in shade or in backli ght condition s. Y our camera ’ s flash has f our modes of oper ation (aut omatic fla sh mode, f orced flash mode , flash off mode, and red-ey e reduction m ode) .

English 82 LIGHT -MEASURING MODE SETTING Y ou can select from 3 types of light-measuring modes . Multi-section light-me asuring: The light is modulated after sampli ng from multi ple areas of the entire shooting screen. Center-weighted li ght-measuring: The light is modulated f or the entire image after measuring from mostly the center area.
83 English ISO SENSITIVITY With the initial sett ings, the ISO sensit ivity is automati cally set according to the brightness of the subject. How ev er, the ISO sensitivity can be set to a fixed setting. 1 Display the PAGE 2 Sh ooting Setting Screen ( page 65).
English 84 WHITE B A LANCE This camera automati cally adjusts the white balance un der most lighting conditions. Ho we ver , if you w ant to specify the lighting co nditions or change the ov erall ton e of the image, the white bala nce can be manually set.
