Setting up Your System 3 - 13 All of the boot servers must be reachable by the same protocol and the content available on them must be identical. The param eters desc ribed in secti on Server Menu on page 3-9 can be used to configure the number of times each server will be trie d for a file transfer and also how long to wait between each attempt.

Setting up Your System 3 - 15 Multiple boot servers can be configured by having the boot server DNS name map to multiple IP addresses. The def a ult number of boot servers is one and the maximum number is eight. HTTP S, HTTP, and FTP are supported for redundant boot servers.

Configuring Your System 4 - 3 Call Log The phone maintains a call log. The lo g contains call information such as remote party ide ntification, t ime and date , and call duration. It can be used to redial previous outgoing calls, return incoming calls, an d save contact information from call log entries to the contact directory.
Administrator’s Guide SoundPoint IP / SoundStation IP 4 - 4 Called Party Identification The phone displays and logs the identity of the remote party specified for outgoing calls. This is the party th at the user intends to connect with. There are no related configuration changes.
Configuring Your System 4 - 5 Configuration changes can performe d centrally at the boot server: Connected Party Identification The identity of the remote party to wh ich the user has conn ected is displayed and logged, if the name and ID is prov ided by the call server.

Configuring Your System 4 - 7 Distinctive Ringing There are three options for distinctive ringing: 1. The user can select the ring type for each line. This option has the lowest priority. 2. The ring type for specific callers can be assigned in the contact directory.

Configuring Your System 4 - 9 Handset, Headset, and Speakerphone SoundPoint IP phones come standar d with a handset and a dedicated connector is provided for a headset (not supplied). The SoundPoint IP 320, 330, 430, 500, 501, 550, 600, 601, and 650 desktop phones and SoundStation IP 4000 conference phone are full-duplex sp eakerphones.

Configuring Your System 4 - 13 Microphone Mute A microphone mute feature is provide d. When activated, visual feedback is provided. This is a local function and cannot be over ridden by the network.

Configuring Your System 4 - 35 DNS SIP Se rver Name Resolutio n If a DNS name is given f or a proxy/regis trar address, the IP address(es) associated with that name will be discov ered as specified in RFC 3263. If a port is given, the only lookup will be an A record.

The phone can provide feedback in the form of on-scre en error messages, status i ndicators, and log files for troubleshooting issues.
Administrator’s Guide SoundPoint IP / SoundStation IP 5 - 2 Error Messages There are several different error messages that can be displayed on the phone when it is booting.
Troubleshooting Your SoundPoint IP / SoundStation IP Phones 5 - 3 Not all configuration files were present on the server Similarly, a mess age about configurat i on files not being present, means that the phone was able to reach the boot server , but that it was not able to find all the necessary files.
Administrator’s Guide SoundPoint IP / SoundStation IP 5 - 4 Blinking Time If the phone has not been able to contact the SNTP server or if one has not been configured, the date/ time display will flash until thi s is fixed. If an SNTP is not available, the data/time display can be tu rned off so that the flashing display is not a distraction.
