VQT1S88 14 Preparation Inserting and Removing the Card (optional)/the Battery • Check that th is unit is turned off. • We recommend using a Pa nasonic card . Slide the release lever in the direc tion of the arrow and op en the card/battery d oor .

VQT1S88 18 Preparation ∫ Functions that cannot be set or will not work under some co nditions Due to the camera’s specifications, it may not be possible to set some of the functions or some functions may not work in some of the conditions under which the camera is used.
19 VQT1S88 Preparatio n Press [MENU/SET] to close the menu. By using the quick menu, some of the menu settings can be easily found. • Some of the menu it ems cannot be set by the modes. • Advanced sett ings for th e following items can be perf ormed by pressi ng [DISPLA Y].
VQT1S88 20 Preparation Perform these settings if you need to. About the Setup Menu [CLOCK SET], [ECONOMY] and [AUTO REVIEW] are important items. Check their settings before using them. • In the Intelli gent auto mode , only [CLOCK SET], [WORLD TIME], [TRA VEL DA TE], [BEEP] and [LANGUAG E] can be set.

VQT1S88 22 Preparation • Press the shu tter button halfway or tur n the camera off and on to cancel [POWER SA VE]. • [POWER SA VE] is set to [5MIN.] in the In telligent au to mode. • [POWER SA VE] is fixed to [2MIN.] when [AUT O LCD OFF] is set to [15SEC.

25 VQT1S88 Preparatio n Mode switching Selecting the [REC] Mode When the [REC] mode is selected, the camera can be set to the Intelligent auto mode in which the optimal settings are established in lin.
VQT1S88 26 Basic [REC] mode: ñ Basic T aking pictures using the automatic function ( ñ : Intelligent Auto Mode) The camera will set the most appropriate setti ngs to match the subject and the record ing conditions so we recommend this mode for beginners or those who w ant to leave the settings to the camera and take pictures easily .

T o make subjec ts appear even closer [maximum of 7.7 k ], do not set the picture size to the hi ghest setting for each aspect ratio ( X / Y / W ).
VQT1S88 32 Basic ∫ Extended optical zoom mecha nism When you set the picture size to [ ] (3 million pixels), the 14.5M (14.7 million pixels) CCD area is cropped to the center 3M (3 million pixels) area, allowing a picture with a higher zoom effect. Note • The digital zoom cannot be set when õ has been selec te d.

37 VQT1S88 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) ∫ Recording guide line When you align the subject on the horizontal and vertical guide lines or the cr oss point of these lines, you can take pictures with well-designed composition by viewing the size, the slope and the balance of the subject.
VQT1S88 38 Advanced (Recordi ng pictu res) [REC] mode: ñ³²¿ T aking Pictures using the Built-in Flash Set the flash to match the recording. Press 1 [ ‰ ].
39 VQT1S88 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) ∫ About the digital red-eye correction When the flash is used with the Red-eye reduction ( [ ], [ ], [ ] ) selected, it will automatically detect and correct t he red-eye in th e image data. ¢ It may not be able t o correct the red-eye de pen ding on the rec ording con ditions.

VQT1S88 44 Advanced (Recordi ng pictu res) [REC] mode: ³²¿ T aking Pictures using Auto Bracket/ Color Bracket In this mode, 3 pictures are automatically recorded in the selected exposure compensation range each time the shu tter butto n is pressed.
45 VQT1S88 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) In this mode, up to 3 pictures in black & white, standard, or sepia in the selected modes are automatically recorded each time the shutter button is pressed. Press 3 [ È ] until [AUTO BRACKET] appea rs, press [DISPLA Y].
VQT1S88 46 Advanced (Recordi ng pictu res) [REC] mode: ² T aking Pictures with Exposure Set Manually ( ² : Manual exposure) Determine the exposure by manually setti ng the ape rture value and the shutter speed. Slide the [REC]/[PLA YBACK] selector switch to [ ! ], and then se t the mode dial to [ ² ].
47 VQT1S88 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) [REC] mode: ¿ T aking pictures that match the scene being recorded ( ¿ : Scene mode) When you select a scene mode to match the s ubject and recording situation, the camera sets the optimal exposure and hue to obtain the desired picture.
VQT1S88 48 Advanced (Recordi ng pictu res) When taking pictures of people outdoors during the daytime, this mode allows you to improve the appearance of the persons co ncer ned and make their skin tones look healthier . ∫ T echnique for Portrait mode T o make this mode more effective: 1 Rotate the zoom lever as far as possible to T ele.

51 VQT1S88 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) This takes pictures of a baby with a healthy co mplexion. When you use the flash, the light from it is weaker than usual.
VQT1S88 52 Advanced (Recordi ng pictu res) Select this when you want to take pictures of sunset view . This allows you to take vivid pictures of the red color of the sun. This mode minimizes the jitter of the subjects , and enables you to take pictures of these subjects in dimly lit rooms.
53 VQT1S88 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) Note • [QUALITY] is auto matically fixe d to [ › ]. • Y ou can take picture s su itable for 4 qk 6 q /10 k 15 cm prin ting. • The shutter spe ed becomes 1/ 8th of a second to 1/2000th of a second. • The focus ra nge becomes the same as macro mode.
VQT1S88 54 Advanced (Recordi ng pictu res) ∫ T echnique for Starry sky mode • The shutter opens for 15 , 30 or 60 seconds. Be sure to u se a tripod . We also recommend taking pictures wi th the self- t imer . Note • The optical i mage st abilizer function is fixed to [OFF] .
55 VQT1S88 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) This mode allows you to take pi ctures through an airplane win dow . ∫ T echnique for Aeri al photo mode • We recommend using t his techniq ue if it is difficul t to focus w hen taking pictures of clouds et c .
VQT1S88 56 Advanced (Recordi ng pictu res) [REC] mode: n Advanced (Record i ng pictures) Motion Picture Mode • When you set the picture qual ity to [ ], [ ] or [ ], we recommend us in g a high-spe ed card with “10 MB/s” or great er displa ye d on the package.

59 VQT1S88 Advanced (Recor ding pictures ) ∫ Canceling the travel date The travel date is automaticall y canceled if the current date is after the return date. If you want to cancel the travel date before the end of the vacation, select [OFF] on the screen shown in step 3 or 7 and then press [MENU/SET] twice.

75 VQT1S88 Advanced (Playback) [PLA YBACK] mode: ¸ Advanced (Playback) Playing Back Pictures in Sequence (Slide Show) Y ou can play back the pictures you have tak en in synchronisation with music, and you can do this in sequence while leaving a f ixed interval between each of the pictures.

77 VQT1S88 Advanced (Playback) [PLA YBACK] mode: ¸ Selecting Pictures a nd Playing them Back ([CA TEGORY PLA Y]/[F A VORITE PLA Y]) This mode allows you to search images by scene mode or other categories (such as [PORTRAIT], [SCENERY] or [NIGHT SCENERY]) and sort the pictures into each of the categories.
VQT1S88 78 Advanced (Playback) Y ou can play b ack the pictures you hav e set as [F A VORITE] (P88) (Only when [F A VORITE] is set to [ON] and there are pictures wh ich have been set to [F A VORITE]).
