The green lamp lights when the focus and exposure are locked (focus lock). Now press the shutter button all the way ( fully) to shoot a picture.

18 Menu operations 2 Panorama shooting lets you cr eate a panor amic picture, using the OLYMPUS Master software from the provide d CD-ROM. An Olymp us xD-Picture Card (referred to as “card” in this m anual) is required for panor ama shooting.
19 Menu operations 2 The camera retains the changed settings even if the power is turned off. To reset the settings to the factory default setting, use the reset function. Functions that RESET affects an d thei r factor y defa ult sett ings The scene selection screen displays sample images and the shooting mode to best suit the situation.
20 Menu operations 2 • The factory default settings are displayed in gray ( ). Protected pictures cannot be e rased by the single- frame/all-frame erase function, but they are all erased by formatting. •P r e s s X / Y to select a picture, and press O / N t o set the protector [ON] .

22 Menu operations 2 Pictures are shown on the index display. g “Zoom button Zooming while s hooting/clo se-up playback” (P. 10) Protected pictures cannot be erased. Canc el the protection befor e erasing such pictures. Once erased, pictures cannot be rest ored.
23 Menu operations 2 All existing data, including protected pi ctures, are erased when the inter nal memory or the car d is formatted. Make sure t hat you save or transfer important data to a computer befo re formatting the card. • Make sure there is no card inserted in the camera when formattin g the internal memory.
24 Menu operations 2 The pixel mapping funct ion allows the camera to check and adjust the CCD and image processing functions . It is not necessary t o operate this function frequently. Approximately once a year is recommended. Wait at least one minute after taking or viewing pictur es to al low the pixel mapping function to perform properly.
25 Menu operations 2 The factory default settings differ accordin g to the region where the camera is sold. To play back camera images on a TV, se t t he video output according to your TV’s video signal type. • The video signal types fo r different count ries and district s are written be low.
26 Printing pi ctures 3 3 Pri nti ng pict ures Printing pictures You can print out the pictures you have taken. If you print the pictures at home, you can either conne ct the camer a directly to the printer or you can connect the camera to a computer and download the pictures to the co mputer first.
27 Printing pictures 3 By connecting the camer a to a PictBridge-compatible printer , you can print out pictures directly. Select the pictures you want to print and the n umber of prints on the camera’s monitor. To find out if your printer is compa tible with PictBridge, refer to the printer ’s instruction manual.
28 Printing pi ctures 3 3 Press the < button. • Printing starts. • When printing is finished, the picture selection screen is displayed. To pr int another picture, press X / Y to select a picture, and press the < button. • When you have finishe d, disconnect the USB cable from the camera with the picture selection screen displayed.
29 Printing pictures 3 1 Follow the step1 and 2 on page 27 to display a screen shown right an d press i button. 2 Select [CUSTOM PRINT], an d press A . • When the turned off camera is connected to a PC with the attached USB ca ble, the [USB] screen appears on the monitor of the camera.
30 Printing pi ctures 3 If the [PRINTPAPER] screen is not di splayed, [SIZE], [BORDERLESS] and [PICS/SHEET] are set to [STANDARD]. Press X / Y to select the picture you want to p rint. You can also use the zoom button and select a picture from th e index display.

33 Printing pictures 3 Print reservation allows you to save printing data ( the number of prints and the date and time informatio n) with the pictures stored on the card. Pictures with prin t reservations can be printed using the following pr ocedures.
34 Printing pi ctures 3 Follow the operatio n guide to make a print reservat ion for a selected picture. 1 In the playback mode, press the MEN U button to display the top menu. 2 Select [PRINT ORDER] [ < ], and press A . 3 Press X / Y to select the frames fo r print reservatio ns, and the n press O / N to set the numb er of prints.
35 Printing pictures 3 Reserves all the pictures stored on the card. The number of prints is set at one print per picture. 1 In the p layback mo de, press MENU button to d isplay th e top menu. 2 Select [PRINT ORDER] [ U ], and pre ss A . 3 Select the date and time setting, and press A .

37 Connecti ng the camera to a computer 4 4 Conn ecting the c amera to a comp uter Connecting the camera to a computer Using the USB cable provided with your camera , you can connect the camera to a computer and download (transfer) the images to your computer using the OLYMPUS Master software, also provided w ith the camera.
38 Connecting the came ra to a computer 4 Before installing the OLYMPUS Master software, please confirm tha t your computer is compatible with the following system requirements. For newer operating systems, please refer to the Olympus web site as show n on the back cover of this manua l.
39 Connecti ng the camera to a computer 4 Note • O perati on is only guaran teed on a Ma cinto sh equi pped wi th a built -in US B port . • QuickTime 6 or la ter and Safari 1.0 or later should b e installed on your computer. • Be sure to remo ve the media (dra g & drop o nto the tr ash icon) before performi ng the follo wing oper ations .
40 Connecting the came ra to a computer 4 4 Follow the on-scree n instruction s. • When the OLYMPUS Master licensing agreement is displayed, read the agreement and click “Yes” to proceed with the installation.
41 Connecti ng the camera to a computer 4 Macintosh 1 Insert the CD-ROM in to the CD-ROM drive. • The CD-ROM window is displayed. • If the CD-ROM window is not displayed, double-click the CD-ROM icon on the desktop. 2 Double-cl ick on the desir ed langu age folder.
42 Connecting the came ra to a computer 4 1 Make sure th e camera is turn ed off. • The Power/Card access lamp is off. • The monitor is off. • The lens is retracte d. 2 Connect the multi-connector on the camera to the USB port on the computer using the provided USB cable.
43 Connecti ng the camera to a computer 4 Windows 1 Double-click the “OLYMPUS Master” icon on the desktop. • The main menu is displayed. • When OLYMPUS Master is started up for the first time after installation, the “Registration” dialog box is displayed before the main menu.

50 Getting to know your camera bett e r 5 There are several ways to focus, depending on the subject. When the subje ct is not in th e center of the fram e • Pl ace the subj ect i n the c enter o f the frame, lock t he f ocus on the su bject, and then recompo se yo ur pict ure.
51 Getting to know your camera be tter 5 Hold the camera properly and press the shutter button gently. Shoot with the h mode to avoid blurring. The following factors may cause b lurring. • Sh ooting with the higher ma gnifi cation s such as di gital zo om and op tical zoom.

Adjust [ F ] toward [+] to make these s ubjects c loser to thei r real sha des. Converse ly, whe n you are shooti ng dark subject s, it can be ef fecti ve to ad just toward the [–].

Remove th e card first, a nd play ba ck the pictures . • Press W on the zoom button to view the pictures as thumbn ails (index display).

Pixels A pixel is the smalle st unit (dot) used to make u p an image. Clea r large-sized printed images requi re millions of pixels .
62 Miscellane ous 6 6 Miscella neous Miscellaneous Exterior: • Wipe gently with a s oft cl oth. If t he camer a is ver y dirt y, soak the clo th in mild soap y water and wrin g well. Wipe th e camera with th e damp cl oth and then dr y it wi th a dr y cloth.

64 Miscellane ous 6 Pictures can be recorded on the optio nal xD-Picture C ard. The internal memory and card are the camera’s media for recording pictures, similar to film in a film camera. Pictures reco rded to the internal memory or card can be easi ly erased on the camera or processed using a comput er.
65 Miscellan eous 6 1 Turn off the camera. 2 Open the batte ry compartme nt/card cover. Inserting the card 3 Orient the c ard, and in sert it into th e card slot as sh own in the illustration. • Insert the card straigh t in. • Insert the card until it clicks into place.
