22 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Step 2 Fr ame a Picture 1 Ready the camera. Hold the camera steadily in both hands, keeping your fingers and other objects away from the lens, flash, AF- assist illumi nator, and microphone. When shooting in “tall” (po rtrait) orientation, hold the camera so that the flash is up.
23 Step 2 Frame a Picture Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Digital Zoom W he n th e c am e ra i s z o om e d in to t h e maximum magnification (5×), holding down g ( i ) triggers digital zoom. The subject is ma gni fied up to an additional 4×, for a total magn ification of 20×.
24 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Step 3 Fo cus and Shoot 1 Press the shutter-release button halfway. The camera au tomatically foc uses on the subj ect in the center focus area. When the subject is in focus, the focus area will glow green.

28 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Using the F lash The flash has a range of about 0.4-5.1 m (1 ft. 4 in.-16 ft. 8 in.) when the camera is zoomed out all the way. With maximum op ti cal zoom applied, the range is about 0.6-4.0 m (2 ft.-13 ft.
29 Using the Flash Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode B Shooting When Lighting Is Poor and the Flash Is Disabled ( W ) • Use of a tripod is recommended to stabili ze the camera d uring shooting an d avoid the effects of camera shake. Set Vibration reduction ( A 105) to Off when using a tripod to stab ilize the camera during shooting.
30 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Shooting with the Self-timer The camera is equipped with a ten-s econd and two-second timer for self-portraits. When using the self-timer, use of a tripod is recommended. Set Vibration reduction ( A 105) to Off when using a tripod.

32 Basic Photography and Playback: Auto Mode Exposure C ompensation Exposure compensation is used to alter exposure from the value suggested by the camera to make pictures brighter or darker. 1 Press o (exposure compensation). The exposure compensa tion value will be displayed.

Compose the next picture so that it overlaps the first pict ure. Repeat until you have taken the necessary number of pictu res to complete the scene.
42 High-Sens itivity Shooting Mo de High-Sensitivity Shooting Mode Shooting in High-Sensitivity Shooting Mode In high-sensitivity shooting mode, sensit ivity i s increased when shooting under low lighting, to reduce blurring caused by camera shake or subject movement, allowing you to capture the atmosphere of the scene.
43 P and M Modes P and M Modes P (Programmed A uto) Mode The camera automatically sets shutter speed and aperture. Adjust shooting menu settings such as white balance and ISO sensitivity, as well as the continuous shooting mode. 1 Rotate the mode dial to P .
44 P and M Modes M (Manual) Mode Choose this mode to cont ro l exposure with manual specification of shutter speed and aperture. Adjust shooting menu settings such as white balance and ISO sensitivity, as well as the continuous shooting mode. 1 Rotate the mode dial to M .
45 M (Manual) Mode P and M Modes 5 Press the multi selector H or I to choose one of two aperture values. Repeat steps 2 to 5 to modify shutter speed and aperture settings until the desired exposu re is achieved. Press k to apply the settings. 6 Frame the subject and take the picture.

47 More on Playback More on Playback V iewing Multiple Pictures: T humbnail Playback Press f ( h ) in full-frame playback mode ( A 26) to display pictures in “conta ct sheets” of thumbnail images. The following operations can be performed while thumbnails are displayed.
48 More on Playback T ak ing a Closer L ook: Playback Zoom Pressing g ( i ) during full-frame playback mode ( A 26) enables the quick playback zoo m function, which zooms the current picture in 3× with the center of the picture displayed. The guide at lower right shows which portion of the picture is enlarged.
49 More on Playback Editing Pic tures Use the COOLPIX P60 to edit pict ures in-camera and store them as separat e files ( A 113). The editing features described below are available.
50 Editing Pictures More on Playback Enhancing Brightness and Contrast: D-Lighting D-Lighting can be used to create copies with enhanced brightness and contrast, brightening dark portions of a picture.
51 Editing Pictures More on Playback Creating a Cropped Copy: Crop This function is only available when u is displayed in the monit or with playbac k zoom ( A 48) enabled. Cropped copies are stored as separate files. 1 Press g ( i ) in full-frame playback mode to zoom in on the image.
52 Editing Pictures More on Playback Resizing Pictures: Sma ll Picture Create a small copy of the cu rrent picture. Small copies are stored as JPEG files with a compression ratio of 1:16. The following sizes are available. 1 Select the desired picture from full-frame ( A 26) or thumbnail ( A 47) playback mode and pre ss d .
53 More on Playback V oice Memos: Recording and Pla yback Use the camera’s built-in mi crophone to record voice memos for pictures marked with n in full-frame playbac k mode ( A 26). Recording Voice Memos A voice memo, up to 20 seconds in length, will be recorded while k is pressed down.
54 Movies Movies Recor ding Movies To shoot movies with sound recorded via the built-in microphone, follow the steps below. 1 Rotate the mode dial to D . Exposure count display sho ws total maximum le ngth of movie that can be recorded. 2 Press the shutter-release button all the way down to start recording .
55 Movies The Mo vie Menu Movie options , Autofocus mode ( A 56), and Electronic VR ( A 56) settings can be changed from the movie menu. Press d in movie mode to display the movie menu and use the multi selector to modify and apply settings. Selecting Movie Options The movie menu offers the options shown below.
56 The Movie Menu Movies Autofocus Mode Choose how the camera focuses in movie mode. Electronic VR Enable or disable electronic VR for movie recording.

59 Making Voice Recordings Voice Recordings Operations During Recording * The copied files can be play ed back using QuickTime or a ny other WAV-compatible audio player. Note that index points created with the camera cannot be used whe n voice recordings are played back on computers.

63 Connecti ng to Televisi ons, Compute rs and Printe rs Connecting to a Computer When the camera is connected to a co mputer using the supp lied USB cable, pictures recorded with the camera can be copied (transferred) to the computer for storage u sing the Nikon Tran sfer software.
64 Connect ing to a Compu ter Connecti ng to Televisi ons, Compute rs and Printe rs Transferring Pictur es from the Camera to a Computer 1 Start the computer to which Nikon Transfer has been installed. 2 Turn off the camera. 3 Connect the camera to the computer using the supplied USB cable.
