4 BEFORE YOU BEGIN Congratulations for selecting the new NordicT rack ® CX 998 elliptical exerciser . The CX 998 is an incredi- bly smooth exerciser that moves your feet in a natural elliptical path, minimizing the impact on your knees a nd ankles.

6 3 14 1 Grease 48 48 76 7 6 99 99 T ubes 2. Identify the Pivot Axle (14), which is the longer of the two axles. Slide a Ramp Cover (48) onto an M6 x 1 6mm Patch Screw (76) as shown. T ighten the Patch Screw into one end of the Pivot Axle. Apply a small a mount of the included grease to the Pivot Axle.
7 5 85 105 Grease 86 11 8 11 9 Axle 86 23 24 2 31 3 Lubricate 11 8 5. Slide a Weld Spacer (1 19) onto the axle on the left side of the Upright (2), with the open side of the Weld S pacer facing the Upright. Apply a generous amount of grease to the axle.
8 7. Apply a liberal amount of grease to the barrel of each M8 x 79mm Bolt Set (65). Identify the Left Pedal (10), which has a notch near t he right side.
9 HOW TO PLUG IN THE POWER CORD This product m ust be grounded. I f it should malfunction or break down, grounding provides a path of least resistance for electric current to reduce the risk of electric shock. This prod- uct is equipped with a cord having an equipment- grounding conductor and a grounding plug.
10 FEA TURES OF THE CONSOLE The advanced console offers a selection of features designed to make your workouts more enjoyable and ef fective. When the manual mode of the console is selected, the resistance of the pedals and the angle of the ramp can be changed with the touch of a button.
1 1 H OW TO USE THE MANUAL MODE P ress any button on the console or begin pedaling to turn on the console. Make sure that the power cord is properly plugged in (see page 9). T o activate the con- s ole, press any button or begin pedaling. After a few seconds, the displays will light.
12 Note: The console can show speed a nd distance in either miles or kilo- m eters. T he letters MPH or Km/H will appear in the lower display to show which unit of measurement is selected. T o change the unit of measurement, first hold down the Start button for a few seconds.
13 H OW TO USE A PRESET PROGRAM P ress any button on the console or begin pedaling to turn on the console. See step 1 on page 1 1. S elect one of the eight preset programs.
14 M onitor your progress with the displ ays. See step 4 on page 1 1. Measure your heart rate if desired. See step 5 on page 12. T urn on the fan if desired. See step 6 on page 12. When you are finished exercising, the con- sole will automatically turn off.
15 Hold the handgrip pulse sensor . T o use a heart rate program, you must use the handgrip pulse sensor . It is not necessary to hold t he handgrip pulse sensor continuously during the program; however , you should hold the hand- grip pulse sensor frequently for the program to operate properly .
16 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR CD PLA YER, VCR, OR COMPUTER T o use iFIT .com CDs , the elliptical exerciser must be connected to your portable CD player , portable stereo, home stereo, or computer with CD player . See pages 16 and 17 for connecting instructions.
17 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO N ote: If your stereo has an unused LINE OUT jack, see instruction A below . If the LINE OUT jack is b eing used, see instruction B. A. Plug one end of the audio cable into the jack beneath the console. Plug the other end of the cable into the adapter .
18 HOW TO CONNECT YOUR VCR N ote: If your VCR has an unused AUDIO OUT jack, see instruction A below . If the AUDIO OUT jack is b eing used, see instruction B. If you have a TV with a built-in VCR, see instruction B. If your VCR is connected to your home stereo, see HOW TO CONNECT YOUR HOME STEREO on page 17.
19 T o use an iFIT .com CD or video program, the elliptical exerc iser must be connected to your C D play er or VCR. See HOW T O CONNECT YOUR CD PLA YER, VCR, OR COMPUTER on pages 16 to 18. 20 HOW TO USE PROGRAMS DIRECTL Y FROM OUR WEB SITE Our Web site at www .iFIT .com allows you to play iFIT .com programs directly from the internet. T o use programs from our Web site, the elliptical exerciser must be connected to your home computer . See HOW TO CONNECT YOUR COMPUTER on page 17.
21 Inspect and properly tighten all parts of the elliptical e xer ciser regularly . Replace any worn parts immedi- ately . For smooth o peration of the elliptical exer- ciser , inspect and clean the ramp regularly using a soft cloth and mild detergent.
22 HOW TO REMOVE THE SIDE SHIELDS AND THE FL YWHEEL COVERS The Left and Right Side Shields (15, 16) must be r emoved before the reed switch or the drive belt can be adjusted.
23 CONDITIONING GUIDELINES The following guidelines will help you to plan your exercise program. Remember that proper nutrition and adequate rest are essential for successful results.
