2 Chapter 1 What Can I Do With My Camera? Captur e Still Pictures — Enjoy point- and-shoot op eration with f lash, Self Ti mer , and zoom feat ures. Use Auto, Sport , Night, Landscape, and Close-up modes to e xpand your ca pabilities. The camera screen offers b rilliant color reproduction and low battery cons umption.

6 Chapter 1 Mode Dial Settings T o use individu al modes, see T aki ng Pictur es, page 13 . Icon Mode Purpose Off Turns off the camera. Auto F or general pi cture-taking . Automatically se ts exposure and focus. Flash fires if needed. Sport F or subject s that are in moti on.
7 Chapter 1 Turning On the Camera Rotate the Mode dial from Off to any other positi on. The Ready light blinks while the came ra performs a self -check, then gl ows green when the camera is ready to take pictures (or vi deo s, if th e mo de dial is se t to ).
8 Chapter 1 Setting the Date and Time Setting the D ate & Time, First Time The Date & Time have been reset message app ears the first t ime you turn on the camera or if the battery is removed for an extended time. (Select Canc el if you want to set the da te and time at a later time.
9 Chapter 1 Checking Camera Status Area T o check the current camera settings, turn the Mode dial fro m the Off position . 10 Chapter 1 Inserting an MMC/SD Card Optional MMC/SD cards provide removable, reusab le storage for pictures and videos. CAUTION: CAUTION: CAUTION: CAUTION: The card can only be inse rted one way; forcing it may damage the camera or card.
11 Chapter 1 Choosing Internal Memory or MMC/SD Card The camera offers two options for storing pict ures and videos: Internal Memory — Store pictu res and videos in 16 MB internal memory . MMC/SD Card — Store pi ctures and videos o n a card. The numbe r/length of pictures/videos depends on th e size of the card.
12 Chapter 1 Checking Y our Storage Setting In St ill and Video modes , the storage l ocation icon that appears in the status area indicates the camera ’ s storage location.
13 2 T aking Pictur es The c amera is ready to take pictures wh en you turn it on — even if you are in Review , Share, or Setup. (In Video mode, the camera captures video.) Before you take a picture, make sure the storage location is set to your preference (see page 11 ).
14 Chapter 2 Sport Mode Use thi s mode when th e subject is i n motion. 1 T urn the Mode dial t o . The camera screen displa ys a mode description. T o interrupt the description, press . 2 Press the Shutter butto n half-way and hold to set the expos ure and focus.
15 Chapter 2 Night Mode Use this mode for night scenes or low-light conditi ons. The flash illumi nates close subjects. A longer exposure captu res more de tail of background subjects. NOTE: T o avoid blurry pictures caused by slow shutter speed, place the camera on a flat, steady surface or use a tripod.
16 Chapter 2 Landscape Mode Use this mode to capture distant subject s, such as landscape scenes. 1 T urn the Mode dial t o . The camera screen displa ys a mode description. T o interrupt the description, press . 2 Press the Shutter butto n half-way and hold to set the exp osure.
17 Chapter 2 Close-up Mode Use th is mode to c apture subje cts 6 to 2 7.5 in. (1 3 to 7 0 cm) from the lens in Wide Angle, or 8. 6 to 27.5 in. (22 to 70 cm) in T ele photo. NOTE: For the best possible pictures in Clo se-up mode: m Use the camera screen to frame your subject.
18 Chapter 2 Liveview — Framing with the Camera Screen The camera screen displays a live image of what the lens sees (Liveview). Use the camera sc reen to fr ame your subj ect. 1 T urn the Mode dial to any Still posi tion. 2 Fram e your subjec t in th e cam era sc reen.
19 Chapter 2 Quickview — Reviewing the Picture Just Taken After you take a picture, the camera screen d isplays a Quickview of tha t picture for approximat ely 5 seconds. While the picture is displaye d, you can: m Review it: If you take no actio n, the pictur e is saved.
20 Chapter 2 Using the Auto Focus Fr aming Marks For the best possibl e pictures , the camera attempts to focus on foreground subjects (even if the sub jects are n ot centered i n the scene). 1 T u rn on the camera in any Still mode (except Landsca pe).
21 Chapter 2 Using the Optical Zoom Use Optical Zoom t o get up to 3X closer to your subject . Optical zoom i s effective when t he lens is no clo ser than 23.6 in . (60 cm) to the su bject. When you turn on the camera, the lens extends to the Wide Angle position.
22 Chapter 2 Using the Fl a sh Use the flash when you ta ke picture s at night, in doors, or outd oors in heavy shadows. The flash setting can be cha nged in any Still mode; the default flash setting is restored when you exit the mode or turn off the camera.

25 Chapter 2 Putting Yourself in the Picture The Self T imer creates a 10-second delay between the time you press the Shutte r button and the time the picture is taken. 1 Place the camera on a flat surface or u se a tripod. 2 In any Still mode , press the Self T imer butto n.
26 Chapter 2 Taking a B urst Series of Pictures Burst lets you to take up to 4 pictures in quick successi on (approximate ly 1.4 frames per seco nd). Burst i s ideal for capturing sp orting events or obj ects in motion. When you use t he Burst feature, th e Flash an d the Self Ti mer are disabled.

28 Chapter 2 Setting Exposure Compensation Use Exposure Comp ensation to con trol how much li ght enters the ca mera. This setting is useful fo r taking pict ures in contrast -heavy scenes, or for retaki ng pictures w hen you are not satisfie d with the bri ghtness.
29 Chapter 2 Setting White Balance Whites can look whit e in daylight , but diff erent under other light ing condit ions. Use White Balance to correct the color shifts that result from shooting pictures under differe nt light sourc es. 1 In any S till mode, press the Menu butt on.

32 Chapter 2 Setting Focus Zone Use the Focus Zone to select a large or a concentrat ed area of focus. 1 In any S till mode, press the Menu butt on. 2 Press to highlight Focus Zon e , then press the OK button. 3 Pres s to hig hlig ht an opti on, th en press the OK butto n.
33 Chapter 2 Setting ISO Speed The ISO setting controls the camera ’ s sensitivity to ligh t. Use a lower ISO sett ing in brightly lit scenes; use a higher ISO setting for low-light scenes. NOTE: ISO settings are available in Auto, Landscape, and Close-up mod es (unless Long Tim e Exposure is set).
34 Chapter 2 Setting Long T i me Exposure Use Long Ti me Exposure to control how long the shut ter stays open and to portray a sense of motion. Set tings are: Non e, 0.5, 1, 2, and 4 seconds. NOTE: Long Time Exposure cannot be used with Exp osure Compensation or manual ISO sp eed setting.
35 Chapter 2 Placing the Date on Pictures Use the Date Stamp setting to imprint the date on your pictures. 1 Make sur e the c amera clock is set to the corre ct date ( page 8 ). 2 In any S till mode, press the Menu butt on. 3 Press to highlight D ate Stamp , th en press the OK button.
36 Chapter 2 Setti ng the Orienta tion Sensor If you rotate the camera to take a picture (for example, a portrait shot ), the Orientatio n Sensor reorients the pict ure so that it is displa yed correct side up. The Ori entation S ensor is tu rned on as the default.
37 3 Ta k i n g V i d e o s Use Video mode to take videos or to custo mize video- taking se ttings. Before you take a video, make sure you r picture storage location is set the way you want it (see page 1 1 ). NOTE: Fla sh is not availabl e in Video mode.
38 Chapter 3 Quickview — Reviewing the Video Jus t Taken After you take a video, the camera screen displays the first frame of the video for approximately 5 seconds. While the frame is displayed, you can: m Play it: Press th e OK button. Press to adjust the volume.

46 Chapter 4 Running a Slide Show Use the Slide Show to display your pictures and vide os on the camera screen. T o run a slide show on a television or on any external device, see page 47 . T o save battery power , use an optional Kodak 5-volt AC adapter ( page 76 ).
47 Chapter 4 Running a Con tinuous Slid e Show Loop When you turn on Loop, the sli de show is continuo usly repeated . 1 On the Slide Show menu, press to high light Loop, th en press the OK but ton. 2 Press to highlight On , then press the OK butt on.

71 Chapter 9 Connecting the Camera Dock 6000 After the Kodak EasyShare sof tware is loaded (see page 63 ), conne ct the camera dock to your computer and to a power out let.
72 Chapter 9 Docking the Camera T o charge the battery or to transfer pictu res and videos from the camera to the computer: 1 Flip dow n the camera dock foot . The camera dock now sits at the proper angle for viewing the cam era screen. 2 T urn off the camera.

78 Chapter 10 Shutter but ton does n ot work. Came ra is not tur ned on. Turn on the camera ( page 7 ). The camera is processing a picture; the Ready light (near the view finder) is blinking. Wait until th e light stops blinking bef ore attempti ng to take another pictu re.
79 Chapter 10 In Revie w mode, you do n ot see a picture (or the expected pict ure) on the camera screen. The camera may not be accessing the correct storage locat ion. Check the picture storage locatio n settin g ( page 11 ). Picture is too dark. Flash i s not on .
80 Chapter 10 Picture is too light . The f lash is not ne eded. C hange to Auto fl ash or Flash Off ( page 22 ). The subject was too clo se for fl ash. Move so there is at least 2 ft (0.6 m) between camera and subject. The light sensor is covered. Hold the camera so your hands or other objects do not cover the lig h t senso r.
81 Chapter 10 Picture is not clear. The l ens is dirty. Clean the le ns ( page 96 ). Subject too close when taking pict ure. Move so there is at least 23.6 in . (60 cm) b etween came ra and subjec t, o r at lea st 5.1 in. ( 13 cm) in Close-up mode (Wide).
82 Chapter 10 Camera /Computer Communic ations For camera dock 6000 troubl eshooting, see page 75 . Problem Cause Solution The computer cannot communicate with th e camera. There is a problem with the co nfigura tion of the USB port on the computer. See this file on the E asyShare softwar e CD: USB.
83 Chapter 10 MMC/SD Car ds and In ternal Me mory Problem Cause Solu tion The camera does not recognize MMC/SD card. The card may not be MMC/SD certi fied. Purchase a certified MMC/SD card. The card may be corrupt. Reformat the card ( page 6 0 ). Caution: Fo rmatting erases all pictures and videos, includi ng protected files.
84 Chapter 10 Came ra Scre en Messag es Message Cause Solution No images to display There are no pictures in the cu rrent storage location. Change picture storage locati on se tting ( p age 11 ). Memory card requires formattin g The card i s corrupted or format ted for another digit al camera.
85 Chapter 10 Read only card, change to internal memory to capture The card in the camera is write-pro tected. To take a picture, insert a new card or change storage locati on t o in terna l memory ( page 11 ). Card is protected (Reset switch on card) Swit ch on ca rd i s in write-prot ect p osition.
86 Chapter 10 Unrecogniz ed File Format The camera c annot read the picture format. Transfer the un readable picture t o th e computer ( page 67 ), or d elete the picture ( page 43 ). No Address Book i n Camera No email addresses appear because t here is no address b ook.
87 Chapter 10 Camera Ready Light Statu s Status Caus e Sol ution Ready light does not turn on and the camera does not work. Camera is not t urned on. Turn on the camera ( page 7 ). Battery is exhausted. Recharge the battery ( page 4 ). Batt ery is not prope rly installe d.
