11 Getting Ready LOADING THE BA TTERY AND THE xD-Picture Card 1 Check that the camera is turned off (viewfinder lamp goes off) before opening the battery cover. ● ! Opening the battery cover while the camera is on causes the camera to turn off. ● ! Do not apply excessive force to the battery cover.
13 Getting Ready 12 LOADING THE BA TTERY AND THE xD-Picture Card 4 Close the battery cover. ◆ How to replace the xD-Picture Card ◆ Push the xD-Picture Card into the slot and then slowly remove your finger. The lock is released and the xD-Picture Card is pushed out.

25 Using the Camera 24 USING THE ZOOM ( OPTICAL ZOOM / DIGITAL ZOOM ) Press “ a ( [ )” up and “ b ( ] )” down to zoom in and out. The digital zoom can be used with the “ 3 ”, “ 1 ” and “ ` ” quality settings. When zooming changes between optical and digital, the “ ■ ” indicator stops.
27 Using the Camera 26 During single-frame playback, you can use the zoom to check your photo or trim the image so that only the part you want to show is saved. Press the “ BA CK ” button to return to single-frame pla yback. Press the “ MENU/OK ” button to crop the image.

35 Advanced Features 34 d Forced flash Use this mode to photograph backlit scenes, such as a subject against a window or in the shade of a tree, or to obtain the correct colors when you are shooting under lighting such as fluorescent lamps. In this mode, the flash fires in bright as well as dark conditions.

Do not connect the camera to your Macintosh until the software installation is completed. 3 When you load the enclosed CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive, the “FinePix” window automatically opens.
65 Software Installation 64 11 To install Acrobat Reader, click “Install Acrobat Reader”. ● ! Install Adobe Systems’ Acrobat Reader software to read the FinePixViewer User’s Guide (PDF). If the latest version already has been installed, this step is not required.
67 Software Installation 66 8 Click the [Continue] button in the “Software License Agreement” window. FinePixViewer and RAW FILE CONVERTER LE are installed on Mac OS X. 1 Turn your Macintosh on and start up Mac OS X. Do not launch any other applications.
69 Viewing Images 68 Check that the camera is turned off. Plug the AC power adapter connector into the “DC IN 3V” socket and then plug the AC power adapter into the power outlet. ● ! The socket-outlet shall be installed near the equipment and shall be easily accessible.

81 80 Notes on the xD-Picture Card™ Notes on the Power Supply ■ Image Memory Card h This Image Memory Card is a new image recording media ( xD-Picture Card ) developed for digital cameras. The Image Memory Card consists of a semiconductor memory (NAND-type flash memory) to record digital image data.
