Operating instructions 6 OPER ATING INSTRUCTIONS 1 Safety The safety standar ds of AEG electric appliances are in keeping with the recognised rules of technology and the law governing the safety of appliances.
Operating instructions 7 Safety of childr en • P ackaging materials (e.g. sheet and Styrofoam) can be danger ous for children. Danger of asphyxiation! K eep packaging materials at a safe distance from childr en. • Children ar e often unable to recognise the dangers involved with electrical appliances.
Operating instructions 8 • Allow the wash-water to cool before emer gency draining of the appliance, cleaning of the circulation pump or emer gency opening of the door . • Small animals may gnaw at electrical power cables and water hoses. Danger of electrical shock and water damage! Keep small animals away from the washing machine.
Operating instructions 9 2 Envir onmental protection tips • No pre-wash is r equired for normally soiled washing. This saves you detergent, water and time (and is good for the environment!). • If the indicated load capacities are taken full advantage of, the wash- ing machine is especially efficient.

Operating instructions 11 Contr ol panel Pr ogram selector The progr am selector defines the nature of the washing cycle (e.g. water level, drum movement, number of rinses, spin speed) to suit the type of washing, as well as the wash temperatur e. Operating instructions 28 Wa sh i ng dr u m The washing drum is made of rust-free stainless steel. Rusty objects in the washing drum may lead to rust deposits on the drum. Attention! Do not clean the stainless steel drum with acid containing decalci fying age nts, abrasives containing chlorine or ir on, or steel wool.
Operating instructions 29 What to do when … 3 The somewhat different, in comparison to older wash- ing machines, whistling noise during spinning is due to the modern drive system. A rattling sound on startup – in particular when using for the first t ime – is caused by the circulation pump and is due to the design.

Operating instructions 33 P erform emergency dr ain • If the washing machine no longer pumps out the water then an emergency dr ain must be performed. • If the washing machine is located in a room in which below fr eezing temperatur es might occur , emergency dr aining must be carried out if danger of freezing occur s.

Operating instructions 38 Pr ogr am protection In order to secur e a progr am setting against inadvertent change (e.g. accidental turning of the progr am selector or activation of buttons), progr am protection can be selected. This pr events damage to your washing caused by , for example, playing children.
