5 OPERA T OR QUALIFIC A TIONS Operation Of this mixer/feeder shall be limited to competent and experienced persons. In addition, anyone who will operate or work around a mixer/feeder must use good common sense. In order t o be quali fied, he or she must also know and meet all other qualificati ons, such as: 1.

7 S A FETY FIRST REME MBER : The careful operator is the best operat or. Most accidents are caused by human error. Certain precautions must be obser ved to prevent the po ssibility of injury or death. OPERATING PRECAUTIONS & IN STRUCTIONS : A. Check to see that no obs tructions are present in t he mixer pr ior to start up.
8 EQUIPMENT SAFETY GUIDELINES Safety of the operator is one of the main concerns in designin g and de veloping a new piece of equipment . Designers and manufactures build in as man y safety features as possible.
9 KEEP ALL SHIELDS IN PLACE Do not operate mixer/feeder without safety shields in place. Rotating parts can crush or dismember causing persona l injury or death. Disconnect PTO driveline before removing shields for adjustment or service. OPERATE MIXER/FEEDER SAFELY Rotating parts can entangle or strike people, resulting in personal injury or death.
10 STAY CLEAR OF ROTATING DRIVELINES Entanglement in rotating dr iveline can cause serious injury or death. Keep tractor master shield and driveline shields in place at all times.
11 POSITIONING DRAWBAR IMPORTANT: Drive components can be damaged from excessive speed. Under no circumstances should a feed mixer equipped with 540 RPM be operated by a tractor with 1000 RPM PTO. Feed mixers are available with either 540 or 1000 RPM driveline.

15 SAFETY DECAL CARE Keep safety decals and signs cl ean and le gible at all times. Replace safety decals and signs that are missing or have become illegible. Replaced parts that displa yed a safety sign should al so display the current sign. Safety decals or signs are available f rom your dealer or the ROTO-MIX manufacturing plant.
16 RE ME MBE R Your best assurance against accident s is a careful and responsible operator. If there is an y portion of this manual or function you do not understand, contact your deal er or the ROTO-MIX plant. BEFORE OPERATION: Carefully study and u nderstand this manual.
17 DURING OPERATION: Beware of bystanders, particularl y children! Always look around to make sure that it is safe to st art the engine of the towing vehicle or move the unit. This is particularly important with higher noise le vels and quiet cabs, as you may not hear people shouting.
18 DURING OPERA TION (CONT.) Never leave running mi xer/feeder unatten ded. As a precaution, always recheck the har dware on mixer/feeder following e very 100 hours of operation.
19 HIGHWAY AND TRANSPORT OPER ATIONS (CONT.): Comply with state and local laws governi ng highway safety and movement of farm machinery on public roads. Use approved accessory lighting flags and necessary warning devices to protect operators of other vehicles on the highway during daylight and nighttime transport.
20 PERFORMING M AINTENANCE (CONT.): Always use the proper tools or equipment for the job at hand. Use extreme caution w hen making adjust ments. Never use our hands to locate hydraulic leaks on attachments. Use a small piece of cardboard or wo od. H ydraulic fluid esc aping under pressure can penetrate the skin.
21 READ THE FOLLOW ING BEFORE WELDING ON THIS MIXER/FEED ER W hen welding on y our mixer/feeder, do not allow the current to flow through the ball bearings or the roller c hains. Ground dire ctly to the item be ing welded. Always disconnect the scale instrumentati on from the weigh bars or load cells and th e power source.
22 OPERATION: Trailer mounted mixers can be furnished with single tractor contro ls or dual controls. Dual controls are stan dard unless specified. 1. Single controls operate as follo ws: Sp out goes down first - door opens second. Door closes firs t - spout goes up second.
23 LOADING INSTRUCT IONS FOR HAY PROCESSOR Load all commodities except liqui ds on the discharge (auger) side with the hay pan in the raised position. T he raised hay pan does not affect the mi xing action 1. If molasses and/or liquid protein is used, load on the rotor side of the mixer first with the mixer not running .
24 LUBRICA TION CH ART DISENGAGE PTO & SHUT OFF POWER BE FORE LUBRICATING THE M A CHINE. LOOSE OR FLOPPY CLOTH ING SHOULD NOT BE WORN BY TH E OPERATOR. OIL BATH: Fill the oil bath with 30 weight motor oil to sight plug level. GREASE BANK: Grease every 100 hours.
