Congratulations on purchasing your new VTech product. Before using this product, please read Important safety instructions on page iii of this manual. This manual has all the feature operations and troubleshooting necessary to install and operate your new VTech product.
ii Product introduction DM221 is an audio monitor which consists of one baby unit ( DM221 BU ) and one parent unit ( DM221 PU ). DM2 21-2 is an audi o mon itor whic h con sists of o ne b aby u nit ( DM221 -2 BU ) and two paren t uni ts ( D M221 -2 PU ).

v Caution s Use and store the product at a temperature between 32 o F and 104 o F. Do not expose the product to extreme cold, heat or direct sunlight. Do not put the product close to a heating source. The battery pack should not be exposed to excessive heat such as bright sunshine or re.

1 Parts checklist Chec k to make sure th e package contains the following items. Save your sales receipt and original packaging in the event warranty service is necessary.
2 Get ting started Baby unit installation Y ou c an power up t he baby uni t by con nec ting i t to AC power . Install the baby unit as shown below. Make sure that the power outlet is not controlled by a wall switch. Bundle the power adapter cord neatly with a twist tie.
3 Get ting started Pare nt unit battery installation You can power up the parent unit by connecting it to AC power or to the rechargeable battery pack provided. Even if the parent unit is connected to AC power, we recommend you also install the battery pack.

5 Get ting started Pare nt unit installation Install the parent unit as shown belo w. Make sure that the power outlet is not controlled by a wall switch. Bundle the power adapter cord neatly with a twist tie. When the battery pack is installed, the light turns on while charging.
6 Get ting started Pare nt unit battery charging The parent unit turns on after you have installed the parent unit battery or connected the parent unit to AC power (see pages 3 to 5). The battery icon indicates the battery status (see the table b elow).
7 Get ting started (On/off) Press and hold to turn on or off (pag e 1 6). / VOLUME/ Press to increase or decrease the spe aker volume (pag e 1 6). Baby unit over view POWER light On when the baby unit turns on (pag e 1 6). Power jack Nightlight On when (nightlight) turns on (pag e 1 6).

9 Get ting started Pare nt unit displ ay scre en ic ons Connection status - displays when strong signal strength is detected between the baby unit and the parent unit. - displays when moderate signal strength is detected between the baby unit and the parent unit.
10 Get ting started Positioning a nd ope rat ing rang e Positioning the audio monitor Place the parent unit within the operating range (see below) of the baby unit. We recommend you place the parent unit at least 3 feet away from the baby unit to avoid audio feedback.

12 Using the menu To enter the parent unit menu: Press M EN U/ BACK wh en the p arent uni t is not in u se. Press or until the s cree n dis plays the d esired fe ature. Press SE LEC T to enter that feature m enu. Press or until the s cree n dis plays the d esired o ptio n.
13 Sound alert You ma y turn on the sound alert whi le the sp eaker volu me is turn ed off so that the pa rent unit beeps as soon as th e baby un it detects sounds wh ich light up four s ound level indicato rs on the parent un it. When t he sound a lert of t he parent unit is t urned on, displ ays.
Parent un it set tings 14 Night light auto - on You ca n turn on or off th e nightlig ht on the baby unit manually (see page 1 6). You ca n also use the pare nt unit to set the nightlight on the ba by unit t o automa tically tu rn on whe never soun ds are de tected fro m the baby unit.
Parent un it set tings 15 Set default Use this feature to restore to the default settings. Restor ing th e default set ting s on on e parent uni t will o nly res et the sh ared set tin gs (sensiti vit y an d night ligh t auto -o n ) of th e other par ent unit .
16 Power on or off the baby unit Press and hold for 2 seconds to turn on the baby unit. The POWER light turns on. Press and hold for 2 seconds again to turn off the baby unit. The POWER light turns off. Speaker v olume You can change the speaker volume (listeni ng volum e ) from Level 1 to Level 5 .
17 Power on or of f the parent unit Press and hold for 2 seconds to turn on the parent unit. The display screen turns on. Press and hold for 2 seconds again to turn off the parent unit. The display screen turns off. Sp eaker volume You can change the speaker volume (listeni ng volum e ) from VOLU ME 1 to VO LUM E 5 , or turn it off.
18 CH EC K BA TT When the battery charging performance is abnormal, the light is off and the icon ashes on the screen. L INKE D When the link between the parent unit and the baby unit is established. LOW BATTERY The parent unit uses only the rechargeable battery pack and it needs to be recharged.

21 Appendix T rou bles hooting (continu ed) My parent unit does not play any sound when there is noise from the baby unit. Make sure the parent unit is powered up by connecting it to AC power (page (page 5) or to the rechargeable battery pack provided ( (page 3).
22 Appendix T rou bles hooting (continu ed) The light on the parent unit is off. Make sure the parent unit battery is installed (page 3) and charged (pag e 6) correctly. Make sure the power adapter and the parent unit are plugged in correctly and securely.
23 Appendix Operating range This product operates with the maximum power allowed by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). Even so, the baby unit and the parent unit can communicate over only a certain distance - which can vary with the locations of the baby unit, the parent unit, the weather, and the layout of your home.
