3 INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A Surveillix DVR is s imply a server that performs as a High Definition Digital Rec order. By utilizin g the many features of a co m puter, including proc essing power, stora ge capacity, graphics compres sion, and securi ty features, th e DVR unit is more power ful than t he analog recorders of th e past.

14 IDENTIFYING INCLUDED COMPONENTS Surveillix™ DVRs c ome with a mouse, key board and selec ted software and c ables. Identify th e following c omponents to mak e sure everything has be en properly inc luded with the new DVR unit. If any of the foll owing items are miss ing, contact the deal er to a rrange a replacement.
15 OPTIONAL COMPONENTS To fully utiliz e the DVR unit’s potential; s everal optional Surv eillix compone nts are lis ted below. Contac t the dealer for mo re information. 1 Extra Video Storage Hard Drive Each DVR unit has a v irtually unlimit ed storage poten tial.
16 KEYBOARD SETUP To attach the keyboard to th e DVR unit, plug the end of the Keyboard into the k eyboard PS/2 Port located on the back of the m a chine. The keyboard PS/2 Port c an be identified by the purple c olor. Refer to the Rear Panel Connectors diagram for more information.
17 MONITOR SETUP The DVR may have on e or both of th e following connec tions availabl e for monitors whic h can be used in dividually or in t andem. SVGA Output To VGA Monitor. S-Video Output To TV/VCR. Attach t he monitor or moni tors to the rear of th e DVR unit using the c able supplied by the monitor manufac turer.
18 CONNECTING A VIDEO SOURCE TO THE DVR There are differen t types of Vid eo Sources that ca n be plugged i nto the DVR unit including DVD players, V HS players, and CCTV Cameras. The back of the DVR unit c ontains up to 16 vide o inputs depending o n the DVR model.
19 CONNECTING SENSORS TO THE DVR Each DVR un it may have up to 1 6 Sensor inputs . These inputs can be used with devic es such as infrar ed devices, m otion device, glass breakage a larms, door and wi ndow trips, and m any more. The Sens ors can be set to Norm ally Open or Normally Closed inside the softwa re.
20 LOOPING OUTPUTS The 8 and 16 Channe l DVR units may have up to 16 Looping outputs . Depending on the destin ation of the outputs, each out put may have to be termin ated. Looping outputs for a 16 Cha nnel DVR looping are hi ghlighted belo w. 32 Channel EVR units may have up to 32 looping outpu ts.
21 CONNECTING A PTZ CAMERA Setting up a PTZ Camera is s imple. The DVR unit comes preas sembled with an inter nal PTZ adapter. The c abling may be run up to 4,000 ft using 2 2 Gauge Twisted Pair. It is important to understand how the PTZ connects to the DVR.
22 HARD DRIVE ARRAY Swapping a Hard Drive 1. Press the Hard Drive Power Butto n to turn off power to the hard drive being removed. 2. Turn the Butt on Lock to the open position a nd push the Handle Release Butto n 3. Pull the Rele ase Handle outwar d while removing the hard drive.

24 TURNING ON THE DVR Once the cables a nd adapters have been properly connected it is time to turn on the power. To t urn on the power fol low these s t eps: 4. Turn on the monitor and any ex ternal peripherals (ex . Printers, External Storage Devices, etc.
25 Importing DVR Settings 1. Exit to Windows by clicking the Exit button on t he Main Display Sc reen and selectin g Restart in Windows Mode. (See the Displ ay Screen section lat er in this chapter). 2. Click Start > Programs > Surveillix > VFormat.

27 CAMERA VIEW Recording Status Indicator The camera status for eac h camera is displayed in th e upper right corner on the Vid eo Display Area. The follow ing are the diff erent states for each c amera: Recording Displayed when the c amera is currently being recorded to th e DVR.
28 SCREEN DIVISION BUTTONS The Screen Division buttons allow you to v iew cameras in gro ups such as two by two, three by three and four by four. The but to n options are shown below. 1st Four Cameras View – Dis plays cameras 1-4 in the V ideo Display Area.

30 SETUP OVERVIEW The Setup opti ons allow you to optimize your DVR by adjusting t hings like camera names, reboot schedules , recording schedu les and more.
31 CAMERA SETUP Enable VMD (Motion Based) Network camera motion detection. (Only available o n select network vid eo devices.) Setup a New Camera 1. Attach camera to the rear o f the DVR chassis. 2. Click the Setup button on the M ain Display Screen. 3.
32 HVR Registration (DVR/ EVR Upgrade Option) Use the followi ng instructions to re gister the network recording functionality of an HVR or upgraded DVR/E VR. Contact your sa les representative to p urchase the HVR upgrade for a DVR or EVR. Have the following information availa ble before regis tering the HVR upgr ade.

34 Unlocking a New Netw ork Camera 1. Start the Surveill ix DVR. 2. Enter Setup. 3. Enter Camera Setup. 4. Click the Regis tration button. 5. Enter the Unloc k Code generat ed by the Toshib a Registration Site i nto the “new serial number” box. 6.
35 MOTION SETUP The DVR allows the user t o adjust several d ifferent Motion Se ttings and cr eate motion detect ion regions. NOTE : Motion grids configured using the SCS software will be advanced motion grids. Creating a Motion Area 1. Click the Moti on button in Set up.
36 Removing a Motion Area To remove the mo tion areas, in the Motion Regions area, click Cle ar. Activating an Alarm on a Motion Event 1. In the Motion Setu p window, select a camera to edi t from the list. 2. Create a motion area. 3. Select the A larm Output check box.
37 FRAME SETUP OVERVIEW The Frame Setup Menu allows configurat ion of the PPS, res olution, qual ity, and sensit ivity of camera channels. When configurin g the PPS sliders the BLUE slider represents th e PPS the DVR will record during intensive rec ording a nd have a vailable for transmitti ng to remotely connected systems.
38 Frame Setup (x120R, x240, x480 models) Frame Select Blue Slider : Sets the PPS recorded durin g intensive recording and available for v iewing on a remote client PC. Red Slider: Sets the PPS recorded by the DVR during normal recording. Video Quality Lower quality vid eo has a smal ler file size but a ppears more pixilat ed.
39 Frame Setup (x60, x120 models) Frame Select Blue Slider : Se ts the PPS recorded during intensive re cording and availa ble for viewing on a rem ote client PC. Red Slider: Sets the PPS recorded by the DVR during normal recording. Video Quality Lower quality vid eo has a smaller file size but appe ars more pixilated.

41 SCHEDULE SETUP Recording Schedule The Recording Sc hedule window allows the us er to create different rec ording schedules based on the day, time, and type of reco rding desired.
42 Sensor Schedule The sensors will supersede all other types of rec ording modes (Motion, Conti nuous, No Recording). Regardless of the recording schedule of a part icular camera, if a s ensor event occurs the ass ociated cameras will be gin recording as a Sensor Event.
43 Create a Recording Schedule 1. Select a day to begin creati ng the schedule for - or- Select the Day Sel ection Mode butt on, enabling Multi Day Selectio n, to create the s ame schedule for multiple days. 2. Highlight the Time-Blocks within the Record ing Schedule wi ndow f or the camera(s) selected to schedule.
44 Special Day Schedule The user can create days that hav e a unique record ing schedule. If n ecessary create thes e on days that are ‘n ot typical’ such as Holidays, Special Events, etc. Creating/Editing a ‘Sp ecial Day’ Schedule 1. Click the Normal Day Mode button to en able the Speci al Day Mode.
45 System Restart Setup Sys tem Restart Setup allows the user to defin e a schedule wher ein the DVR automatic ally restarts acc ording to specifie d parame ters. Create System Restart Schedule 1. Open the Sched ule Setup Display 2. Click the System Restart button 3.
46 ALARM SETUP The Alarm window allows y ou to enable, dis able and configure Sensors and Contr ol Outputs. Configure Sensor Response 1. Click the Setup button on the M ain Display Screen. 2. Click the Alarm S etup button to open the Alar m display. 3.
47 Activate PTZ Preset on Sensor 1. Create PTZ Preset Pos ition. See ins tructions in the PTZ Setu p Chapter. 2. Click the Setup button on the M ain Display Screen. 3. Click the Alarm S etup button to open the Sens or and Output Display. 4. Click the Sens or Preset button.
48 GENERAL SETUP Beep on Login Fail Enables th e DVR to beep contin uously in respons e to a failed login attempt. Only an aut horized login will stop the beepin g. Sequence Setting Al lows the vide o out picture to automa tically cycle through chan nels at a se t speed.
49 Intensive Recording Overview The Intensive Recording Option allows you to incr ease the Pictures Per Second and the res olution of any camera rec ording using sensor activation.
50 Audio The Surveill ix DVR is capable of rec ording up to e ight channels of audio. AUDIO FEATURES: • 8000 Hz playback in Live Mode • Up to 48000 Hz pl ayback in search mode • Mono Sampl ing D.
51 94B TV-Out Setup (Analog) The DVR features an optional TV-O ut functionality whi ch allows users to outp ut video from any number of cameras, i n sequence, to a television o r monitor displ ay. 1. Under Setup clic k General, and then click TV Out Setup.
52 Auto Sequencing Setting Auto Sequencing i s used either in the main sc reen when Auto Sequencing has been enabled or when a Spot-Monit or Out signal is used to displ ay video on a spot monitor. Auto Sequenc ing conveniently displays v ideo channels a nd at spec ified intervals, s eque nces through each se lected channe l.
53 NETWORK SETUP Network Setup allows the user to adjust settings such as Ports, setup emergency PPP information for use with the Emergency Age nt and enable Remot e Access. Transport Rate A bandwidth throttl e based on percentage of free network . Web Viewer (iDVR) Enables/Disables access to the DVR using the Web Vi ewer interface.
54 PTZ SETUP The PTZ Setup window allows ena bling of PTZ cameras, c reation of Presets , creation of Tours , and adjustment of ca mera speed settings. Many options listed here are features only available on selected cameras . Refer to the PTZ chapter in this manual for further information on s etting up PTZ c ameras and setti ng PTZ options.
55 ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP Disk Management The Disk Management window is a native Wi ndows function. This window displays the partitio n scheme and health s tatus of the Ha rd Disk Drives in the DVR. This windo w is often used to troubles hoot a DVR, or verify the amo unt of Hard Drive storage i nstalled.
56 User Management The User Management Co nsole allows the adminis trator to create, edit, and d elete user accounts. Eac h user account can be as sig ned different privileges to li mit the usage of the DVR system.
57 User Rank The User Ranking structure allows the option to assign a privilege system (1-10 where one has the most rights) to users of the DVR Software. For examp le: Since only one user is allowed t o use the PTZ c ontrols at any one t ime, an admin istrator with a higher rank can kick another u ser out and take c ontrol of the PTZ.
58 Status Check / Email General 1. Click the Setup button on the M ain Display. 2. Click the Administrati ve button. 3. Click Status Chec k/Email. 4. Select the E nable Email Alarm c heck box. 5. Enter a From Nam e and e-mail Addr ess. NOTE: This name and address will app ear in the From line of the ema il alert message.
59 Storage Check 1. Setup the General and Users tabs first. (see above) 2. Select the Use St orage Check check box. 3. Define the number of min utes. 4. Select an Alert Op tion, Beep or Popup Mes sage, if desired. 5. Click Apply. Recording Data Check 1.
60 SMART Information The SMART Information tab display s Hard Drive information. SMART Alert 1. Setup the General and Users tabs first. (see above) 2. Select the Enable SMART Alarm. 3. Define the number hours between SMART checks. 4. Select the ty pe of SMART event to trigger an action.
61 INSTANT RECORDING The Instant Recor ding feature a llows users to ma nually initiate r ecording on a spec ific camera, ov erriding the current s chedule .

64 SEARCH OVERVIEW The DVR has several options t hat allow the user to easily s earch, and find, a p articular sect ion of video. From M otion/Sensor i ndexing to calendar views highlighting day s with recorded video; the DVR is equi pped to help the u ser quickly find a s pecific video or event.
65 Adjust the Brightness of an Image 1. Select an ima ge to adjust by double-clic king on the des ired image. Multi ple images canno t be adjusted at one time. 2. Move the Br ightness slide bar to the right or left to adjust the brightness. 3. Reset the Brightn ess by moving t he slider back to the center of the bar.
66 DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME The DVR automatic ally adjusts for Daylight Savin g Time chang es. When the hour “jumps forward” no video is lost because an hour is skipped. Howeve r when the hour “falls back” there is a duplicated hour that under norma l circumstances w ould be recorded over.
67 SINGLE CLIP BACKUP Along with the Sav e option, a single camera back up option is also incl uded with the Surveillix s oftware. The single Camer a or Clip Backup allows th e user to back up a single camer a without havin g to backup multiple camer as at a given t ime.
68 PERFORMING A BASIC SEARCH There ar e several different types of searches that can be perfor med on the DVR. The most basic inv olves selecting the dat e, th e time , the camera, and c licking play. 1. Click the Calen dar button to sel ect a date. 2.
69 PREVIEW SEARCH Preview Search can be used in a number of circumstances to quickly find an exact mome nt where an event, such as a theft, occur red. The Preview Searc h gives a 24 Hour visual ov erview of a single camer a by separating a 24 hour period (1 day) into 24 images, on e image for each h our of the day.
70 Performing a Preview Search 1. Select a sing le camera by eit her turning off al l cameras but one or double-clic king a display ed image. 2. Select the Pr eview Search butt on. 24 images display. If there is no recorded vi deo during a porti on of the day, “No Image” wi ll be displayed wher e the image sho uld be.
71 OBJECT SEARCH Object Searc h is a powerful search u tility used to searc h a region on the v ideo for any motion chan ges. Results are neat ly di splayed and can be viewe d quickly. Performing an Object Search 1. Perform a Basic Search to determine th e start time of t he object search.
72 SEARCH IN LIVE The Search in Live feature a llows users to review events immedi ately while monit oring live video. Pause, rewind, a nd resume l ive video within secon ds of an alarm event or s uspicious ac tivity. 1. Move the mous e cursor over t he desired liv e video display on the Live Dis play Screen.

74 PAN / TILT / ZOOM OVERVIEW The PTZ controls within the DVR allow for powerful control over the cameras. This can be extremely beneficial by incr easing th e usefulness of the rec orded video. Using the PTZ c ontrols you can create c ustom preset configura tions that can contin uously swee p across large areas .
75 ADVANCED PTZ SETUP NOTE: Preset and Tour opt ions may v ary depending on the c amera Creating and Viewing Preset Positions A Preset Position is a user-defined loc ation where the camer a can be pointe d, zoomed in, and foc used. Preset posit ions can be defined and lab eled if the camer a supports this.
76 PTZ Address Settings Some prot ocols support software address settings. The RX Addresses and ID settings are compatib le with a particular line of receivers th at support 2 ID addres ses The PT Driver Address is as sociated with t he PTZ ID addres s set on the camera.
77 CONTROLLING A PTZ CAMERA The Surveillix DVRs provide c ontrol for a PAN/TILT ca mera in two differe nt ways. • The first method is to use the Graphi cal PTZ Controller that appears when the PTZ button is c licked on the m ain screen. • The second metho d is to use the mouse to control th e camera directly from the liv e video display .
78 UNDERSTANDING TOURS Travel Speed The speed betwee n one Preset pos ition to the next Dwell Time The length of time (in seconds) that a PTZ Tour displays a Preset Position. Setting: Start Pos / End Pos Define a Mimic Tour. Th e Start Position button begins the ‘recording ’ process.
79 PTZ Tour Schedule Create PTZ Tour Schedule 1. Click the Setup button on the M ain Screen. 2. Click the PTZ Set up button. 3. Click the Tour Sc hedule button to open the PTZ To ur Schedule window.
80 Supported Protocols Protocols ar e added frequent ly. The Surveillix Server software may sup port new protocols t hat are not listed h ere. The current supported protocols are: ADEMCO RAPID DOME AM.
81 BACKING UP VIDEO DATA This chapter inclu des the following information: • Overview • Saving Video to a DVD-R • Saving Video from a Single Camera • Scheduling Regular Vid eo Backup.
82 BACKUP OVERVIEW The DVR can easily backup importa nt video data to an internal or external m edia location. The most commonly used forms of this are CD-R/RWs, External USB or FireWire Hard Drives, an d Network Drives. Every DVR comes s tandard equipped with a DVD±RW drive, USB port, and Network Adapt er.
83 General Backup Screen The General Bac kup window is used for performing bul k backup of video recorded by all cameras for a selected perio d or periods to a specified stora ge location. Hour / Minutes Recording data di splays in hourly ( 24 horizontal c olumns) and 10 minute (6 vertical c ells) segments .
84 Clip Backup Screen The Clip Screen is used for bac king up vide o recorded by ind ividual camer as for a selected p eriod of time to a specified stora ge location Performing a Clip Backup 1. Click the Back up button on the Main Display Screen. 2. Click the Clip Bac kup Tab at the to p of the Back up Center Screen.
85 Scheduled Backup Screen The Scheduled Sc reen is used for ba cking up video rec orded by all ca meras at a regular interval. Performing a Scheduled Backup 1. Click the Back up button on the Main Display Screen. 2. Click the Sche dule Tab at the top of the Backup Center Screen.

90 OVERVIEW Event Sentry is designed to allow th e user to monitor drive status in DVRs utilizing an inte rnal RAID 5 array.
