21 INTRODUCTION PRODUCT DESCRIPTION A Surveillix XVS / DVS / HVS is a DVR, a server that performs as a High Definition Digital Recorder. By utilizing the many feat ures of a computer, incl uding process ing power, storage c apacity, grap hics compression, and security fe atures, the DVR is more powerful than the analog r ecorders of t he past.

34 IDENTIFYING INCLUDED COMPONENTS Surveillix™ DVRs come with a mouse, k eyboard and selected software and cables. Id entify the foll owing compo nents to make sure everything has be en properly inc luded with the new DVR. If any of t he following i tems are miss ing, contact th e dealer to arrang e a replacement.
35 OPTIONAL COMPONENTS To fully utilize the DVR’s potentia l; several opt ional Surveillix components are listed below. Contact the deale r for more in f ormation. Extra Video Storage Hard Drive Each DVR has a virtually unlimited st orage potential.
36 KEYBOARD SETUP To attach the key board to the DVR, plug the end o f the Keyboar d into the key board PS/2 Port loc ated on the back of the m achine . Th e keyboard PS/2 Po rt can be identifi ed by the purple color. Refer to the Re ar Panel Connec tors diagram f or more informati on.
37 MONITOR SETUP The DVR has the follow ing connectio ns available to attach a monitor. SVGA Output To VGA Monitor. DVI-D Output To TV / Digital Monitor Attach the monitor or monitors to the rear of the DVR us ing the cable sup plied by the monitor manufac turer.
38 MAKING CONNECTIONS ON AN XVS Connecting a Video Source There are different types of Video So urces that can be plugged into th e XVS including DVD players, VHS play ers, and CCTV Cameras. The back of th e XVS contains up to 16 vi deo inputs de pending on t he model.
39 Connecting Sensors to the XVS Each XVS may have up to 16 Sensor inputs. These inputs can be used wi th devices such as infrar ed devices, motion device, glass breakage alarms , door and win dow trips, and many more. The Sens ors can be set to Normally Open or N ormally Close d inside the software.
40 Connecting Control Outputs to the XVS Each XVS may have up to 4 Control Outputs. These outputs can be used to trigger devices such as Sirens, P hone Dialers, Lights, and any other rel ay activated device. Ther e is no power s upplied to the p orts.
41 Looping Outputs The 16 Channel X VS may have u p to 16 Looping outputs. Depend ing on the des tination of the outputs, eac h output may have to be terminated. The o utputs are locat ed on the BNC Connec tor Cable. Attach th e cable to the i nput for the BNC Connect or Cable highlighted below.
42 Connecting a PTZ Camera Setting up a PTZ Camera is simple. The DVR c omes preass embled with an inter nal PTZ adapter . The cablin g may be run up to 4,000 ft using 22 Gauge Twis ted Pair. It is important to understand how t he PTZ connects to the DVR.
43 MAKING CONNECTIONS ON DVS / HVS Connecting a Video Source There are different types of Video So urces that can be plugged into th e DVR including DVD players, VHS p layers, and CCTV Cameras. The bac k of the DVR contains up to 32 vide o inputs dependin g on the DVR model.
44 Connecting Sensors to the DVS / HVS Each DVR has up to 16 Se nsor inputs. 45 Looping Outputs The 8/16 Channel DVS / HVS has up to 16 l ooping outputs . Depending on the destination of the looping o utputs, each o ne may hav e to be terminat ed.

47 HARD DRIVE ARRAY (D VS / HVS ONLY) Swapping a Hard Drive 1. Press the Hard Drive Power Butto n to turn off power t o the hard drive being removed. 2. Turn the Butt on Lock to the open positio n and push t he Handle Release Butto n 3. Pull the Rele ase Handle outward while rem oving the ha rd drive.
48 TURNING ON THE DVR Once the cables a nd adapters hav e been proper ly connected it is time to turn on the pow er. To turn on the power follow t hese s t eps: 1. Turn on the monitor and any ex ternal peripher als (ex. Printers, Exter nal Storage Dev ices, etc.

50 SETTING THE TIME AND DATE 1. Exit to Windows by clicking the Exit button fr om the Dis play screen and selecting Restart in Windows Mode. (See the Display screen section later in this cha pter) 2. Open Windows Ex plorer. Do this by right-clickin g the My Computer Ic on (located on the top left hand c orner of the Desktop) and select Explore.
51 Importing DVR Settings 1. Exit to Windows by click ing the Exit button on the Dis play screen and s electing Res tart in Windows Mod e. (See the Dis play screen section later in this cha pter) 2. Click Start > Programs > Surveillix > VFormat.
52 DISPLAY SCREEN Each time the DVR s tarts, the program defa ults to the Dis play screen. Th e following dia gram outlines th e buttons and f eatures us ed on the Display s creen. You shou ld become familiar with thes e options as this is the sc reen that w ill be display ed the majority of the time.
53 CAMERA VIEW Recording Status Indicator The camera s tatus for each cam era is display ed in the upp er right corner on t he Video Displ ay Area. The follo wing are the diff erent states for each c amera: Recording Displayed when the c amera is curren tly being recorde d to the DVR.
54 SCREEN DIVISION BUTTONS The Screen Divisi on menu allows y ou to view camer as in groups s uch as two by two, thr ee by three and f our by four. The bu tton options are shown below. Note When viewing live video from N etwork Cameras, only 4CH will display at one time.
55 Custom Live View Divisions Customize yo ur Live View screen by changing th e order of the c ameras. Each s creen divis ion can be indiv idually custom ized but a camera can only b e displayed onc e (once in 4 c amera v iew, once in 9 ca mera view, etc).

59 CAMERA SETUP Set Up New Camera 1. Attach camera to the rear o f the DVR chassis. 2. Click Setup on the Display sc reen. 3. Click Camera Setup to open the Camera Setu p display. 4. Select the ch annel that corres ponds with the new camera from th e Select Camera lis t.

63 Camera Configuration The Camera Configurat ion tab displa ys information o n all cameras (a nalog and network ) connected t o the Surveillix DVR Displaying More Columns The Camera Configurat ion tab can be customized t o display the information you use most.
64 HVR Upgrade and Registration Have the following information ava ilable before r egistering t he HVR upgrade. HVR Product Serial Number : That product S erial Number is the unique number th at Toshiba provi ded with the purch ase software. System ID: The System ID is a number that is ge nerated by t he Surveilli x unit.
65 5. Verify the informat ion. 6. Click Next if the informatio n provided is correct. 7. Once validated, y ou will be provi ded with the Un lock Code. 8. Print the page and save for later r eference. Unlocking the Upgrade 1. Return to Setup > Network Video > Licens e.
66 MOTION SETUP The DVR allows the user t o adjust several d ifferent Moti on Settings and c reate motion d etection areas. Create a Motion Area 1. Click Motion in Setup. 2. Select a camera fr om the Select Camera list. 3. Select the Det ect Detail Motion Area check box .
67 Activating an Alarm on a Motion Event 1. In the Motion Setu p window, select a camera to edit from the Camera list. 2. Create a motion area. 3. Select the Al arm Output c heck box. 4. Select a Control NO (Output) to activate for th e selected camera.
68 GENERAL SETUP Function Beep on Login Fail Enables the DVR to be ep continuous ly in response t o a failed login attempt. Only an authorized lo gin will stop the beep ing. Sequence Setting Allows the video out picture to au tomatically cycl e through ch annels at a set speed .
69 Intensive Recording Overview The Intensive Rec ording Option allo ws you to increas e the Pictures Per Second of any camera, using senso r or motion activ ation .
70 TV-Out Setup (Multiplexer) The Multiplexer T V Out card is an optional upgra de that allows us ers to output v ideo in a s equence or a matrix display.
71 Control Multiplexer M ode Display 1. Click TV Out on the Display sc reen. 2. Click Multiplexer . 3. To change th e camera that is displayed on the monitor , click the des ired camera nu mber in the row th at the monit or is connected to. Tip Port 1 is the top port on th e TV Out card.
72 Volume The volume contro l allows fine tuni ng of the volum e settings on th e DVR. Volume Options: • Slider Controls – Used to a djust the literal v olume for the respective devi ces listed.
73 Auto Sequence Setting Auto Sequencing i s available either in the Dis play screen wh en Auto Sequenc ing has been enabled or when a Spot-Monitor out sig nal is used to dis play on a spot monitor. Auto S equencing conveniently d isplays v ideo channel s at specified intervals and sequences through each se lected channe l.
74 FRAME SETUP OVERVIEW The Frame Setup menu allows conf iguration of th e PPS, resolutio n, quality, and sensitivity of camera channel s. When configuri n g the PPS sliders the BLUE slider represe nts th e PPS the DVR will recor d during intensive recor ding and have available for transmitti ng to remotely connected systems.
75 Standard Models Note The RED PPS record slider cannot e xceed the BLUE PPS capture slider. Note The Software will not allow the m aximum avai lable Frames to be exceed ed. 78 SCHEDULE SETUP Recording Schedule The Recording Sched ule window allows the user to cr eate different r ecording sc hedules based o n the day, time, and type of r eco rding desired.
79 Sensor Schedule The Sensors will supers ede all other types of recordin g modes (Motio n and Continuous ). Regardless of t he recording sc hedule of a particular camera, if a sensor even t occurs the ass ociated cameras will begin rec ording as a Sens or Event.
80 Create a Recording Schedule 1. Select a day to begin creating the sch edule for -or- cli ck Single Day Selection , ena bling Multi Day Selectio n , to create the same schedule for multiple days. 2. Highlight the Time-Blocks with in the Recording Schedule window for the camera(s) selected to s chedule.
81 Special Day Schedule The user can crea te days that hav e a unique r ecording sc hedule. If nece ssary create thes e on days that are ‘not typ ical’ such as Holidays, Special Events, etc. Creating/Editing a ‘Sp ecial Day’ Schedule 1. Click Normal Day Mode to enable the Special Day Mo de .
82 System Restart Setup System Restart Setup allows the us er to define a sc hedule wherein the DVR automatic ally restarts acc ording to specif ied parame ters. Create System Restart Schedule 1. Click Schedule on the Setup s creen. 2. Click Restart Setup .
83 SENSOR SETUP The Sensor setup window allows you to enable, disabl e and confi gure Sensors and R elays (Control Outputs). Configure Sensor Response 1. Click Setup on the Display screen. 2. Click Sensor . 3. Click the NO or NC check box to select Normally Ope n or Normally Clos ed for the desir ed sensor.
84 Activate PTZ Preset on Sensor 1. Create a PTZ Pre set Position. See instructions i n the PTZ Setup c hapter. 2. Click Setup on the Display sc reen. 3. Click Sensor. 4. Click Sensor Preset . 5. Select the desired c amera from the Channel list. 6. Select the appropriate Sen sor from the list.
85 NETWORK SETUP Network Setup allows the user to adjust settings such as Po rts, setup emergency PPP informat ion for use with t he Emergency Age nt and enable Remot e Access. Time Out Value When attempting t o connect to th e DVR, if the connecti on does not suc ceed during t he timeout period (seconds), t he connecti on will be terminat ed.
86 ADMINISTRATIVE SETUP Disk Management The Disk Management window is a native Windows fu nction. This wind ow displays th e partition sc heme and health s tatus of th e Ha rd Disk Drives in the DVR. This window is ofte n used to troub leshoot a DVR, or verify t he amount of Har d Drive storage ins talled.
87 Setting Up DDNS Dynamic Domain Name System (DDNS) is a se rvice that provid es a stat ic address to simplify re mote connection to the DVR. This service is most us eful for instal lations where th e WAN (public) IP addres s is dynamic (changes from ti me to time).
88 User Management The User Management Console allo ws the administrat or to create, edit, and delete us er accounts. Eac h user acc ount can be assigned different priv ileges to limit the us age of the D VR system.
89 User Rank The User Ranking structure allows the optio n to assign a privil e ge system (1-10 where one has the most rights) to u sers of the DVR Software. For exampl e. Since only one us er is allowed to use the PTZ c ontrols at any on e time, an ad ministrator with a h igher r ank can kick another u ser out and take c ontrol of the PTZ.
90 Status Check / Email General 1. Click Setup on the Display sc reen. 2. Click Administrative. 3. Click Status Chec k/Email. 4. Select the En abl e Email Alarm chec k box. 5. Enter a From Name and e-mail Address . Note This name and a ddress will app ear in the From line of the email alert message.
91 Storage Check 1. Set up the General an d Users tabs fi rst. (see above) 2. Select the Use St orage Chec k check box. 3. Define the number of min utes. 4. Select an Alert Op tion, Beep or Popu p Message, if desi red. 5. Click Apply. Recording Data Check 1.
92 SMART Information The SMART Information tab display s Hard Drive infor mation. SMART Alert 1. Setup the General and Users tabs first. (see above) 2. Select the Enable SMART Alarm. 3. Define the number hours between SMART checks. 4. Select the ty pe of SMART event to trigger an ac tion.
93 INFORMATION The Information di splay allows us ers to define the site code nec essary for connecti ng to remote softwar e, save comme nts relati ve to the DVR and store tec h support and contact number inf ormation. Site Code A user-spec ified unique i dentification nam e used by oth er DVR software to identify the DVR.
94 INSTANT RECORDING The Instant Recor ding feature a llows users to ma nually initi ate recording on a specific c amera, overriding the current sched ul e.

96 SEARCH OVERVIEW The DVR has several opt ions that al low the user to ea sily search throug h, and find, a par ticular sect ion of video. Fr om Motion /S ensor indexing to calen dar views highli ghting days with recorded video ; the DVR is equ ipped to help the user quick ly find a spec ific video or event.
97 Adjust the Brightness of an Image 1. Select an ima ge to adjus t by double- clicking on th e desired image. Multiple im ages cannot b e adjusted at one time. 2. Move the Brightn ess slide bar to th e right or left to a djust the brightness. 3. Reset the Brightne ss by moving t he slider bac k to the center of the bar.
98 PERFORMING A BASIC SEARCH There are several different types o f searches that c an be performed on the DVR. The m ost basic involv es selecting the date, ti me, camera, and clic king play. 1. Click the Calen dar button to s elect a date. 2. Select a time by clicking th e up and down arrows to the right of t he time dis play.
99 SAVE TO JPG OR AVI The DVR can export single im ages in a JPG Image fi le format and sav e video clips i n an AVI format. B oth JPG and AVI file forma ts are the most com monly used grap hical formats today . Virtually every computer offers some type of s upport for thes e file format s which make them the m ost ideal forma ts to use.
100 Bookmarks Use bookmarks to mark a video clip during a search. E xport bookmarke d data using th e Clip Backup fe ature. 1. Perform a searc h for the desired vi deo. 2. Stop playbac k at the beg inning of the des ired clip. 3. Right-click the video and se lect Start Bookmark .
101 Single Clip Backup Along with the Sav e option, a sing le camera back up option is als o included with th e Surveillix s oftware. The singl e Camera or Clip Backup allows the user to backup a single camer a without hav ing to back up multiple cam eras at a give n time.
102 INDEX SEARCH Using the Index S earch can greatly decrease the amount of t ime spent searc hing through s aved video. The Index Search all ows a user to perform a search based on c riteria such as Se nsor, Motion an d Instant Record events Performing an Index Search 1.
103 PREVIEW SEARCH Preview Searc h can be use d in a number of c ircumstances to quickly find an exact momen t where an event, such as a theft, occur red. The Preview Sear ch gives a 24 Ho ur visual overv iew of a single camera by separating a 24 hour period (1 day) into 24 images, on e image for each h our of the day.
104 Performing a Preview Search 1. Select a sing le camera by eit her turning of f all camera s but one or dou ble-clicking a displayed im age. 2. Click Preview Search . 24 images display. If th ere is no rec orded video du ring a portion of the day, “ No Image” will b e displayed where the image s hould be.
105 OBJECT SEARCH Object Search is a powerf ul search utility that is used to search a r egion on the v ideo for any mot ion changes. Results are ne atly displayed and c an be view ed quickly . Performing an Object Search 1. Perform a Basic Search. See the instructions on Performing a B asic Searc h.
