6 Introduction Features The CRX100E is an internal CD-R/R W (Compact Disc Recordable/ ReWritable) dr i ve unit designed for use with an IBM PC, HP V ectra, or compa tible computer .

9 Precautions ■ Installation • Avoid placing the drive in a location subject to: – high humidity – high temperature – excessi ve dust – mechanical vibration – direct sunlight. W e recommend to use the driv e in a horizontal or v ertical position.
10 Example of System Setup T o use the CD-R/R W de vice, the follo wing components are required: • Computer (IBM-PC/AT, HP Vectra, or equivalent) • IDE Host adapter (ATA compliant) • Floppy disc.
11 Setting the Jumpers Set the jumpers on the rear of the drive in accordance with the configuration of your computer system. The jumpers are preset at the “MASTER” position as illustrated at the factory.
12 Slide the drive into the lower bay . Installing the Driv e Unit into the Computer Opening the Computer 1 If your computer has its rear side covered by a plastic panel attached with plastic hook pad, pull it off. 2 Remove the cover mounting screws. 3 Remove the cover of the computer.
13 Connecting the Drive Connect the drive to the computer with the following connectors: • DC INPUT connector • AUDIO OUT connector (if you plan to connect audio equipment) • INTERFACE CONNECTOR. ■ DC INPUT connector The pin assignment is as follows.
14 F r ame ground tab F rame ground cable Installing the Driv e Unit into the Computer ■ Frame ground When nor mally installed , the dri ve unit is not in contact with the host computer directly and should be grounded. Connect the frame ground ta b to one of the host computer’ s ground cables.

16 Install the host adapter in one of the e xpansion slots. Installing the Driv e Unit into the Computer Mounting the Host Adapter Install the host adapter in one of the available system expansion slots of your computer. Refer to the operating instructions included with the host adapter for complete instructions on installation and settings.
17 Installing the Software Driver MSCDEX and the device dri ver for an ordinary CD-R OM drive can be used when using the CRX100E as a CD-R OM dr i ve. Use the device driv er for a CD-R/R W drive w hen using the CRX100E as a r ecorda ble or rewritable drive.
18 Operating the Drive This section describes ho w to start the drive and eject a disc . Starting the Drive 1 Turn on the power of your computer. 2 Press the eject button. The tray comes out automatically. 3 Place a disc in the tray with its label side up.
19 Oper ating the Dr iv e Note: When the driv e is set up in v er tical position, use the disc locks to prev ent y our disc from f alling. See “Ho w to Use the Disc Loc ks” on page 21 for details. 4 Gently push the tray or press the eject button to close the tray.
20 Oper ating the Dr ive Ejecting the Disc T o eject the disc, press the eject b utton on the fr ont panel. The tr ay comes out automatically . Note: The eject button does not w ork if it is disabled b y the software y ou are using.
21 Oper ating the Driv e How to Use the Disc Locks The disc tray has four disc locks tha t pr e vent the disc fr om f alling when the driv e is set up in vertical position. Note: When the driv e is used in horizontal position, y ou do not need to lock the disc.
22 Oper ating the Dr ive When the drive’s right side is down T o facilitate disc handling, set the disc locks B, C and D into the locked position, and leav e the disc loc k A in the unlocked position.
