26 Recording Information on D VD recor ding Information This unit can recor d on D VD-R W and D VD-R discs. DV D-R W discs allow you to r ecord pr ograms r epeatedl y , and the recor ded contents can be erased. D VD-R discs allow you to r ecord pr ograms only once, and the recorded contents cannot be erased.
27 Recording Restrictions on recor ding Y ou cannot recor d cop y-protected materials using this unit. Copy-pr otected materials includes D VD- Video discs and some satellite broadcasts.
28 Recording Fo rmatting a disc When inserting a blank disc , the unit starts to initialize it automati- cally . After that, you can recor d on the disc with a recor ding format selected in the setting menu. 1 SKIP 2 Press SETUP . Easy Setting Menu or Advanced Setting Menu will appear .

34 Recording One-touch Timer Recor ding Note • The remaining r ecording time will appear on the dis- pla y panel during an One- touch Timer Recording.
35 Recording Timer Recording Y ou can program the unit to r ecord up to 8 programs, within a month in advance. Daily or weekly pr ogram r ecordings ar e also a vailable. • Be sure to set the clock bef ore programming a timer r ecording. • Insert a recordable disc or a videotape with an erase-pr otec- tion tab.

38 Timer r ecording (cont’ d) Recording • If there is a po wer failur e or the unit has been unplugged for mor e than 1 minute, the clock setting and all timer settings will be lost. • If a programmed start and end time are the same, the recording will be set f or 24 hours automatically .

40 Recording Connection to an external sour ce Connect the external source pr operly to the unit by using input jacks either LINE 2 (Front) or LINE 1 (Rear). When connecting an external equipment of monaural output to this unit, use AUDIO L jack of LINE 1 (Rear) or LINE2 (Front).

42 Recording Dubbing Mode Y ou can cop y a D VD disc to a videotape or cop y a videotape to a D VD disc . This function will be pos- sible only if the D VD disc or the videotape is not cop y pr otected. Befor e star ting this function, pre- pare f or the recor ding on the D VD-R W/-R disc or the videotape .

To cancel finalizing... (D VD-RW only) •T o cancel finalizing at STEP 4, press ST OP C , select “YES”, then press ENTER .F i n a lizing is canceled and the unit will be in stop mode. • If appear when pr essing ST OP C ,y ou cannot cancel finalizing because the finalizing has progr essed to a certain point.
45 Recording VCR/DVD RECORDER COMBINA TION Finalizing the discs (cont’ d) Y ou can finalize discs automatically using Auto Finalize function. This function automatically finalizes discs after all Timer Recordings are completed or when the disc space runs out.

To pla y back a D VD , mak e sure that it meets the r equirements f or Region Codes and Color Systems as described below .

52 Disc Pla yback Special pla yback (cont’ d) Skipping TV commer cials during pla yback Y ou can skip TV commercials b y pressing CM SKIP in order to enjoy the r ecorded pr ograms without interruption. 1 During pla yback, press CM SKIP . Normal pla yback will start at 30- second advanced point from where y ou press CM SKIP .

To go back to the beginning of the current title or cha pter , press SKIP H .P r ess it r epeatedly to go to the pr evious titles or chapters.

58 Disc Pla yback Repeat/Random/Pr ogram pla yback Note • The A-B Repeat playback can only be set within the cur- re nt title (for D VDs), or cur- r ent track (f or Audio CDs). •T o cancel the repeat pla y- back, select OFF at STEP 2. The repeat setting will be also cleared when y ou stop pla yback.

Y ou can choose a title to pla y back from this scr een and easily edit the titles as y ou pref er . 1 .
