Before yo u can ru n the Disk Ma nager softwar e you m ust t r ansfer it f rom your new hard disc on to a blank, boota ble diskette in drive A o f your comput er (the prog ram can only be run from drive A) .
4. Reboot your computer again using t he bl ank, bootable diskette. 5. You should n ow be able to a cces s the soft ware on you r new hard disc . If your new har d d rive is driv e C, type c:seam ove to tr ansfer the disc su pport s oftwar e. Use a differ ent dr ive letter i f nec essary.
Note. The syste m setup prog r am may r eque st informa tion o n the dr ive’s write pre comp o r landing z one. You d o n ot need to en t er a ny values for these paramet ers be cause your Seagate drive does not use them. 4. Save yo ur drive-t ype se ttings, exit t he system setup pro gra m, and reboo t your comput er using the DOS diske tte.

At th e DOS pr om pt, typ e format , followed by the d rive letter for the f irst dr ive partition yo u wa nt to format (fo r exam ple, for mat C : ).

At startup, the message “ HDD control ler fail ure” appears. • Check jum per settings on all drives . • Check all cards and cab les. During the FDISK program, you get an error message warn- ing of an attem pt to writ e to track 0 or to t he boot sector; t he message may also suggest that a vi r us is present.
During the FDISK program , the error m essage, “No Fixed Disk Present, ” appears. • Check a ll cables . • Check the power supply. • Reboot the com put er and make sure the drive spins up. • Ver ify the BI OS dr ive t ype . • Check f or I / O a ddress conflicts .
• Check y our DOS v ersion. • Reinstall the DO S system files onto the h ard disc using th e SYS comm and (s ee your DOS manual) . • Check f or vir uses. During operation, the system error m essage, “Drive not Ready ,” appears. • Check a ll cables .
