10 INST ALLING THE POWER HEAD TO THE A TT ACHMENT See Figure 2. WARNING: Never install, remove, or adjust any attachment while power head is running. Failure to stop the engine can cause serious personal injury . The attachment connects to the power head by means of a coupler device.
11 A TT ACHING THE FRONT HANDLE − CS30 AND SS30 See Figure 4. Remove 2 wing nuts, 2 bolts, and clamp from the fr ont handle. Install the front handle onto the top side of the drive shaft housing and move it to a comfortable position. Place the bolts through the fr ont handle.
12 A TT ACHING THE GRASS DEFLECTOR WARNING: The line cutting blade on the grass deflector is sharp. Avoid contact with the blade. Failure to avoid contact can result in serious personal injury . TO A TT ACH THE CURVED SHAFT GRASS DEFLECTOR − CS30 See Figure 6.
13 A TT ACHING THE SHOULDER HARNESS − BC30 See Figure 9. Connect the latch on the shoulder har ness to the strap hanger . Adjust the strap to a comfortable position.
14 ASSEMBL Y REMOVING THE STRAIGHT SHAFT GRASS DEFLECTOR AND STRING HEAD See Figures 10 - 13. Align the slot in the flanged washer with the slot in the gear head. Place the gear head locking tool through the slot in the flanged washer and gear head.
15 FUELING AND REFUELING THE TRIMMER FUEL MIXTURE This product is power ed by a 2-cycle engine and requires pre-mixing gasoline and 2-cycle oil. Pre-mix unleaded gasoline and 2-cycle engine oil in a clean 1 gallon container approved for gasoline. Recommended fuel: This engine is certified to operate on unleaded gasoline intended for automotive use.
16 WARNING: Always hold the string trimmer away from the body keep- ing clearance between the body and the product. Any con ta ct wi th the housi ng or st rin g tr imm er cutti ng head can result in burns and/or other serious personal injury .
17 Inspect and clear the ar ea of any hidden objects such as glass, rocks, concr ete, fencing, wire, wood, metal, etc. Never use blades near sidewalks, fencing, posts, build- ings or other immovable objects. Never use a blade after hitting a har d object without first inspecting it for damage.
18 OPERA TION ST ARTING AND STOPPING See Figures 21 - 22. Lay the trimmer on a flat, bare surface. Press the primer bulb 7 times. Pull the starter grip until the engine starts. Squeeze the trigger to run. TO STOP THE ENGINE: Press and hold the switch in the stop “ ” position until the engine stops.
19 MAINTENANCE Fig. 23 SPOOL RET AINER Fig. 24 SPRING SLOTS STRING HEAD EYELETS SHAFT Remove the empty spool from the string head. Keep the spring attached to the spool. T o install the new spool, make sure the two strings are captured in the slots opposite each other on the new spool.
20 T o install the spool retainer: T ur n the spool retainer clockwise for model CS30. T urn the spool retainer counter clockwise for models SS30 and BC30.
21 MAINTENANCE CLEANING THE EXHAUST POR T AND MUFFLER Depending on the type of fuel used, the type and amount of oil used, and/or your operating conditions, the exhaust port, muffler , and/or spark arrestor screen may become blocked with carbon deposits.
