6 7 EXTENSION CORDS When using a power tool at a considerable distance from a power sour ce, be sure to use an extension cord that has the capacity to handle the curr ent the tool will draw . An un- dersized cord will cause a drop in line voltage, resulting in overheating and loss of power .

8 9 FEA TURES KNOW YOUR BISCUIT JOINER See Figure 1. Before attempting to use this product, familiarize yourself with all operating features and safety rules. SWITCH TRIGGER The biscuit joiner has a conveniently located ON/OFF switch trigger on the underside of the dual grip handle.
10 11 ASSEMBL Y Fig. 2 UNP ACKING This product r equires assembly . n Carefully remove the tool and any accessories from the box. Make sure that all items listed in the packing list are included. n Inspect the tool carefully to make sure no breakage or damage occurred during shipping.
10 11 OPERA TION WARNING: Do not allow familiarity with tools to make you car eless. Remember that a careless fraction of a second is suf- ficient to inflict serious injury . WARNING: Always wear safety goggles or safety glasses with side shields when operating power tools.
12 13 DEPTH OF CUT The biscuit joiner can be adjusted to three standard cutting depths to accommodate three standard size biscuits — #0, #10, and #20. Adjustments are made by engaging slots on the depth adjustment knob with tabs on the rear base as- sembly .
12 13 OPERA TION FENCE HEIGHT The adjustable fence on the biscuit joiner can be moved up or down to adjust the position of the blade in relation to the top of the workpiece. A scale on each side of the fence indicates the height of the fence from the center of the blade.
14 15 MAKING EDGE-TO-EDGE JOINTS See Figures 9 - 10. Edge-to-edge joinery is one of the most basic and easily- constructed joints. n Unplug the biscuit joiner. n Prepare the workpieces by laying them side by side on a workbench in the order in which they will be as- sembled.
14 15 OPERA TION BUTT JOINTS A butt joint is made by mating the end grain of one board with the edge grain of another . The bonding of glue on this type of surface is poor . However , by using biscuits you can create a str ong joint that gives a mortise-and-tenon effect.
16 17 Fig. 13 OPERA TION T - JOINTS See Figure 13. A T -joint is used when the end of a board is joined to the face of another board as shown in figure 12. Attaching shelves to bookcases and inner support braces to frames are typical applications. Actual cutting of a T -joint is as simple as any other cut.
16 17 OPERA TION CUTTING VERTICAL BOARDS See Figures 16 - 17. n Unplug the biscuit joiner. n Loosen the locking knob and set the fence angle at 0°. n Set th e fence he ight at the desi red dim ensio n on the sca le by rotating the height adjustment knob.
18 19 MITER JOINTS See Figures 18 - 21. There ar e two types of miter joints that can be made using biscuits: flat miters and edge miters. Flat miters are used when making picture frames. Edge miters are used when making boxes or things where you don’t want to show the end grain of the wood.
18 19 MAKING EDGE MITER JOINTS See Figures 19 - 21. n Unplug the biscuit joiner. n Place the pieces of wood to be joined on a level work- bench. n Mark the centerline of the joint on each board. n Whe n mak ing edge mit er jo ints with wor kpie ces t hat have different thicknesses, clamp the pieces securely to a workbench with the long sides up.

22 23 MAINTENANCE CLEANING THE BASE ASSEMBL Y AND DUST P A TH See Figures 25 - 27. After extended use, wood particles and resin may build up inside the base assembly of your biscuit joiner and clog the path for wood particles going into dust bag.
22 23 n Usin g a screwdriv er, remove the two screw s that conne ct the front and rear base assemblies. n Carefully separate the front base assembly from the rear base assembly. Remove the front base assembly. NOT E: Thes e piece s are tight ly join ed.
24 25 1. Biscuits do not fit the slots. Biscuits not fitting slots may also cause misalign- ment of the boards being joined. TROUBLESHOOTING PROBLEM SOLUTION A. Bisc uit slot s are too deep or too shall ow. Make fin e adjust ments to dept h setting. See “MAKING FINE ADJUSTMENTS”.
