2-2 Operator Control Panel OCP Description The Operator Control Panel (OCP) is a touch panel disp lay that you use to set up print options and monitor job and printer s ta tus. It is also u sed by the Network Administrator to configu re the printer and by the Service T echnician to perform maintenance o n the printer .

Paper Handl ing 3-5 3. Adjust the s ensor plate to the proper size. Size markers are located o n the sensor plate in the fo llowing order: triangle (special), B5, A5 , LGR, LGL, L TR, B4, A3, and A4. If the paper size you need is not listed , set the sensor plate to triang le (the f irst position).

4-2 Care and Maintenan ce Replac ing Cons umab les When a consumable needs to be replaced, the printer sto ps printing and d isplays an error m essage indicatin g which consum able should be replaced. Th e following table shows th e life expectan cy of each cons umable.
Care and Maintenance 4-3 Ad di n g T one r 1. Open the T oner Supply Cover . 2. Make sure that the mouth of the toner bottle is closed. Shak e the toner bottle up and down about six times, then turn the toner bottle upside down and shake it again.
4-4 Care and Maintenan ce 3. Peel the toner s eal film. 4. Install the toner bottle into the T oner Hopper Unit so that the triangle marks on the bottle mouth and the T oner H opper Unit line up. Turn the bottle in a h alf circle until the triangle mar k on the bottle comes to fit the cir cle mark on the T oner Hopper Un it.
Care and Maintenance 4-5 5. Hold the top of th e bottle and tap the side to transfer the toner into the T one r Hopper Unit. 6. When the toner bo ttle is empty , turn it back in a half circle an d take it out. 7. Close the T o ner Supply Cover and discard the empty toner bottle.

4-8 Care and Maintenan ce 4. Lock the empty deve loper bottle by turning the d eveloper bottle cap about 160 degrees in the di rection shown below . 5. T o sta rt the exhaust process, make the following selections from the OCP: Setup / Consumable / Develo per Mix / Exhaust The exhaus t process takes appro ximately 2 minutes.
Care and Maintenance 4-9 Supplying the Develop er Mix Be sure to use only the developer mix that is specified for the printer . Using developer that is not specified for the printer may degrade print quality or cause damage to the printer . Refer to the ta ble below to determine the correct d eveloper mix for your printer .
4-10 Care and Maintenan ce 4. Lock the bo ttle in place by tur ning the developer b ottle cap about 160 d egrees in the direction shown below. 5. T o sta rt the replacem ent process, m ake the following selection s from the OCP: Setup / Consumable / Develo per Mix / Supply The re placement process takes approximately 2 minutes.

4-12 Care and Maintenan ce Replacing th e Dru m Unit T o re move t he Dr um Unit: 1. Open the Front Cov er of the printer . 2. T u rn the handle clockwise to release the Drum Unit. 3. T u rn the Drum Center Lock until the tab on the side of the lock appears.
Care and Maintenance 4-13 4. Using the grip of the f ront side of the drum unit, pull it out until the stopper behind the unit c atches, then hold the handle and lift the drum unit to remove it.
4-14 Care and Maintenan ce T o install the n ew Drum Unit: 1. Align the groove on b oth sides of the Drum Unit to the Drum Unit Front Guides that are located on the f ront side of the Console Frame. Pu sh the front g rip of the Drum Unit until the Dr um Unit is set in the proper p osition.
Care and Maintenance 4-15 Repl acing the Fuser Clean ing Web T o re move the Fuser Unit: 1. Open the Front Cov er of the printer . 2. Hold up the Fuser L atch and pull out the Fuser Un it. WARNING! The Fuser Unit is very hot. Do not touch any parts of the Fuser Unit except those parts which are used to r eplace the Fuser Clea ning W eb.

T roubleshooting 5-5 OCP Display Messages The OCP displays the printer status with 1- to 2-line messages. There are three ty pes of messages: status, w arning, and error m essages. The following table lists the messages in alphabetical order . Each message is explained and a corrective action is given when applicable.
