3 READ THIS BEFORE INSTA LLATION We have designed your phon e to conform to federal regulations, and you can connect it to mo st telephone lines. However, each phone (and each device, such as a telephone or answering ma- chine) that you connect to the teleph one line draws power from the telephone line.
4 Important: • Cordless phones such as this one re quire AC power to oper- ate. When the AC power is off, you cannot dial out or recei ve incoming calls using your ph one.
5 Also, the phone company can make changes to its lines, equ ip- ment, operations, or procedures that could affect th e operation of this telephone. The telephone company notifie s you of these changes in advance, so you can take the necessary steps to pre- vent interruption of your telephone service.
6 • Use outlets on different electrical circuits for the equi pment and the radio or TV . Consult your local RadioShack store if the problem still exists. PREPARATION Selecting a Location You can place th e phone ’s base on a flat surface such as a desk, shelf, or table.
7 date the wiring for you. You must use compatible modular jacks that are com pl i a nt wi th Part 68 of FCC Rules . Note: The USOC number of the jack to be installed is RJ11C. CONNECTING THE BASE You can power the base using the supplied 12V, 200 mA AC/DC adapter.
8 5. Lift the base’s antenna to a vertical position. Connecting, Charging, and Replacing the Battery Pack The phone comes with a recha rgeable NiMH battery pack. You must connect the battery pack and charge it for at least 12 hours before you use the ph one for the first time.
9 • If the CHARGE/IN USE indicator does not light wh en you place the keypad on th e base, be sure the battery pack and AC adapter are correctly and securel y connected. Also, check the charging contacts on the keypad and base. If the contacts are dirty or tarnished, clean the m with a penci l eraser .
10 Cautions: • Be careful not to short the battery pack by touching it with conducting materials, such as rings, bracele ts, and keys. The battery pack or conductor mi ght overheat and burn. • Do not open or mutil ate the battery pack. If you have trouble repla cing the battery pack, take the phone to your local RadioShack store for assistance.
11 Note: If your phone system requires that you dial an access code (9, for example) before you dial an o utside number , do not press the access code either . If the dial tone stops , you have touch-tone service. If the dia l tone continues, you have pulse servi c e.
12 per side of the clip into the slots on both sid es of the keypad. To remove the belt clip, pull out on either side of the clip. OPERATION Before you use the phone, pl ace the earphone in either ear an d attach the clip to your clo thing (see “Using the Earphone” on Page 11).
13 Adjusting the Keypad’ s V olume To adjust the keypad’s volume level (4 levels), repeate dly press VOLUME 9 9 9 9 or 8 8 8 8 during a call until the so und level is comfort- able. The volume level remains set even after you hang up. Note: The keypad beeps 3 times when you reach the lowest or highest volume level.
14 Using Mute To talk to someone else in the room without the person on th e oth- er end of the p hone line hearing your conversati on, press MUTE . Press MUTE again to resume your phone conversation. Using Flash FLASH provides the ele ctronic equivalent of a switchhook signal for special phone service such as Call Waiting.
15 Using Page You can send a page to the ke ypad to locate it when it is away from the base and not in use. To page the keypad, press PA G E / FIND on the base. The keypad rings for about 15 seconds. To find the keypad, press and hold P AGE/FIND . The keypad rings for about 1 minute.
16 4. Press the m emory locatio n number ( 1–0 ) you want to store. The keypad sounds two long beeps. Note: If you hear three short beeps, you did not store the number successfully . Begin again from Step 1. 5. Write down the stored name and numb er on the memory label provided.
17 Dialing a Stored Number Press TA L K . When you hear the dial tone, press MEM then the memory location number ( 1–0 ). The phone dials the number. Chain Dialing Service Numbers To quickly recall special services numbers (such as alte rnate long distance or bank by phone), store e ach group of numbers in its own memory location.
18 T ROUBLESHOOTING We do not expect you to have any problem with your telephone, but if you do, these suggestions might help. Problem Sug gestion The keypad does not work. Move the keypad closer to the base. Raise the base’s antenna to a vertical position.
19 If you still have proble ms, disconnect the phone. If other phones on the same line work properly, the fault is in this phone or its in- stallation. If you cannot find the problem, take the p hone to your local RadioShack store for assistance. CARE Keep the phone dry; if it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately.
