7 Bef ore Using the A V receiver Some models hav e a voltage selector switch for compat- ibility with power systems around the w orld. Before you plug in this model, make sure that the v oltage selector is set to the correct voltage for your area. If it isn’ t, use a small screwdri ver to set it as appropriate.
8 Fr ont & Rear P anels For detailed information, see the pages in parentheses. A ST ANDBY/ON button (32) This button is used to set the A V recei ver to On or Standby . B ST ANDBY indicator (32) This indicator lights up when the A V receiv er is in Standby mode, and it flashes while a signal is being receiv ed from the remote controller .
9 Front & Rear P anels —Continued J MEMOR Y button (39) This button is used when storing or deleting radio presets. K TUNING MODE button (38) This button is used to select the Auto or Manual tun- ing mode.
10 Front & Rear P anels —Continued A DIGIT AL IN OPTICAL & CO AXIAL These optical and coaxial jacks can be used to con- nect a CD or D VD player and other components with digital audio outputs. B AM ANTENNA These push terminals are for connecting an AM antenna.
11 Speaker P ac kage A Speaker terminals These push terminals are for connecting the speaker to the HT -R330 with the supplied speaker cables. The supplied speaker cables are color -coded for easy identification. Simply connect each cable to the same-colored positiv e speaker terminal.
12 Remote Contr oller Including the A V receiv er, the remote controller can be used to control up to six different components. The remote controller has a specific operating mode for use with each type of component. Modes are selected by using the five REMO TE MODE buttons.

B ON button (32) This button is used to turn on the A V recei ver. C INPUT SELECT OR buttons (36) These buttons are used to select the input sources.
14 Remote Controller —Continued To set the remote contr oller to D VD mode, press the [D VD] REMOTE MODE b utton. A ST ANDBY button This button sets the D VD player to Standby .

16 Remote Controller —Continued T APE mode is used to control an Onkyo cassette recorder connected to the A V receiv er via . To set the r emote controller to T APE mode, press the [RECEIVER] REMO TE MODE button. For twin cassette decks, only deck B can be controlled.
17 Connecting Y our Speakers Y ou can use tw o sets of speakers with the A V receiv er: speaker set A and speaker set B. Speaker set A should be installed in your main listening room and can be used with Dolby Digital and DTS surround material.
18 Connecting Y our Speakers —Contin ued Read the following before connecting your speak ers: •Y ou can connect speakers with an impedance of 8 ohms or higher . If you use speakers with a lower impedance, and use the amplifier at high volume le v- els for a long period of time, the built-in protection circuit may be activ ated.
19 Connecting Y our Speakers —Contin ued The speakers can easily be wall mounted by using the ke yhole slots. T o pre vent the speaker from vibrating against the wall, attach four of the supplied spacers to the ke yhole fins on the rear of each speaker .
20 Connecting Antenna This section explains ho w to connect the supplied indoor FM antenna and AM loop antenna, and how to connect commercially av ailable outdoor FM and AM antennas. The A V receiv er won’ t pick up any radio signals without any antenna connected, so you must connect the antenna to use the tuner .
21 Connecting Antenna —Continued If you cannot achiev e good reception with the supplied indoor FM antenna, try a commercially av ailable out- door FM antenna instead. Notes: • Outdoor FM antennas work best outside, b ut usable results can sometimes be obtained when installed in an attic or loft.
22 Connecting Y our Components • Before making any A V connections, read the manuals supplied with your other A V components. • Don’t connect the po wer cord until you’ ve completed and double-checked all A V connections.
23 Connecting Y our Components —Continued By connecting both the audio and video outputs of your D VD player and other A V components to the A V recei ver, you can select both the audio and video simultaneously simply by selecting the appropriate input source on the A V receiv er.

33 Fir st Time Setup To enjoy Dolby Digital and DTS, you must connect your D VD player to the A V recei ver by using a digital audio connection (coaxial or optical).

When tuned into an RDS station, the RDS indicator appears. ■ What is RDS? RDS stands for Radio Data System and is a method of transmitting data in FM radio signals.
41 Using the T uner —Contin ued Displaying Radio T ext (R T) When tuned to an RDS station that’ s broadcasting R T text information, that information can be displayed. Notes: • The message “W aiting” may appear while the A V receiv er waits for R T information.
42 Common Functions This chapter explains functions that can be used with an y input source. When using the HT -R330 with the speakers included in the HTP-330 Home Theater Speak er Package, by turning on the OptiResponse equalizer , you can enjoy a powerful sound with movies or music.

To cancel the sleep timer , press the [SLEEP] b utton repeatedly until the SLEEP indicator disappears. To check the remaining sleep time, press the [SLEEP] b utton.

50 Ad v anced Setup Crosso ver Frequency To get the best bass performance from your speaker sys- tem, you need to set the crossov er frequency according to the size and frequency response of your subwoofer and other speakers (front, center , and surround).
51 Adv anced Setup —Continued Speaker Distance To get the best from surround sound, it’ s important that the sound from each speaker reaches the listener at the same time. T o achie ve this, you need to specify the dis- tance from each speaker to the listening position.
52 Adv anced Setup —Continued Note: •A quicker way to adjust the speak er lev els is to press the remote controller’ s [TEST T ONE] button to output the test tone, use the [LEVEL–] and [LEVEL+] but- tons to adjust the lev els, and use the [CH SEL] button to select the speakers.

On some g ames consoles, such as those that can play D VDs, the default setting is off. •W ith some D VD-V ideo discs, you need to select an audio output format from a menu.
