P age 8 1 P AR T NAMES AND FUNCTIONS PED ALS The CN33 piano has three pedals: Damper/Sustain, Sostenuto , and Soft. ¡ Damper/Sustain pedal Sustains the sound after hands are lifted from the ke yboard. The sustain pedal is capable of responding to half pedaling.

P age 10 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 2. PLA YING THE PIANO 1) BASIC OPERA TIONS This section provides the basic procedures f or turning the power on and pla ying the CN33 digital piano .
P age 11 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 2) DEMO SONGS The internal demonstration songs provide an e xcellent introduction to the varied capabilities of the CN33 digital piano , presenting the instrument’ s rich selection of voices. There are 30 built-in demo songs, each presenting a musical piece to introduce the diff erent internal sounds.
P age 12 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 3) SELECTING A SOUND The CN33 digital piano f eatures 36 realistic sounds suitable f or various musical styles , with multiple sounds assigned to each of the 9 categor y b uttons listed below .
P age 13 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 4) DU AL MODE The DU AL function allows two internal sounds to be la yered together , creating a more complex sound. F or example , a piano can be lay ered with strings, or a church organ with a choir sound. Step 1 Press and hold the PIANO1 b utton, then press the STRINGS button.
P age 14 2 PLA YING THE PIANO Step 5 Use the BALANCE slider to adjust the v olume balance between the tw o sounds. Step 6 Press any individual SOUND SELECT b utton to deactivate DU AL mode.
P age 15 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 5) SPLIT MODE The SPLIT function divides the ke yboard of the CN33 digital piano into Upper and Lower sections , allowing each section to be pla yed with a diff erent sound. Step 1 Press the SPLIT b utton. The LED indicator f or the SPLIT button will turn on, indicating that SPLIT mode has been activated.
P age 16 2 PLA YING THE PIANO Step 4 Press the PIANO2 b utton three times. The LED indicator f or the PIANO2 button will turn on. ‘1-3’ will be shown in the LED displa y , indicating that the Upper section sound has been changed to Mellow Grand 2.
P age 17 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 6) FOUR HANDS MODE The FOUR HANDS function divides the ke yboard of the CN33 digital piano into separate Upper and Low er sections in a similar wa y to that of the SPLIT function. In addition, the octav e/pitch of each section is also adjusted, allowing two people to pla y the piano together.
P age 18 2 PLA YING THE PIANO Step 3 Press the SOUND SELECT b uttons to adjust the Upper section sound. Step 4 Press and hold the SPLIT b utton, then press the SOUND SELECT buttons to adjust the Lo wer section sound. Step 5 Press and hold the SPLIT b utton, then press a ke y on the ke yboard to adjust the Split P oint.
P age 19 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 7) REVERB AND EFFECTS The CN33 digital piano allows perf ormers to alter sounds by adding re verb and applying eff ects. When selecting some internal sounds, the LED indicators for the EFFECTS or REVERB b uttons ma y tur n on automatically .
P age 20 2 PLA YING THE PIANO APPL YING EFFECTS Eff ects alter the impression and feeling of the sounds . There are se ven types of eff ect av ailable: Effect type Description Chorus Simulates the rich character of a vocal choir or string ensemble , by la yering a slightly detuned version of the sound ov er the original to enr ich it.
P age 21 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 8) TRANSPOSE The TRANSPOSE function allows the audible pitch of the CN33 digital piano to be raised or lo wered in half steps. This is par ticularly useful when accompanying instruments with diff erent tones, or when a song learned in one key must be pla yed in another k ey .
P age 22 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 9) METR ONOME Rh ythm is one of the most impor tant elements when learning music. It is impor tant to pr actice playing the piano at the correct tempo and with a steady rh ythm. The CN33 digital piano’ s metronome function helps lear ners to achie ve this b y providing a steady beat to pla y along with.
P age 23 2 PLA YING THE PIANO Step 2 Press the S or T V ALUE b uttons to select the desired time signature. The currently selected time signature will be shown in the LED displa y . Step 3 Press the BEA T button again to deactiv ate the metronome.
P age 24 2 PLA YING THE PIANO 10) P ANEL LOCK The P anel Lock function allo ws the state of all panel buttons to be temporarily loc ked, pre v enting sounds and other settings from being changed accidentally while pla ying the piano . Step 1 Press the CONCER T MA GIC and USB buttons simultaneously .

P age 26 3 CONCERT MA GIC PERFORMING A SONG Step 1 T ap out the rh ythm of the selected song on any b lac k or white k ey . Concer t Magic songs will respond to changes in pla ying style. As the ke ys are tapped harder , the music will grow louder ; if the ke ys are tapped more softly , the music will become quieter .

P age 28 3 CONCERT MA GIC STEAD Y BEA T Steady Beat allows Concert Magic songs to be played b y simply tapping any k ey with a constant steady beat, regardless of the song arrangement type. Step 1 Press and hold the CONCER T MA GIC button. The currently selected Concer t Magic mode will be sho wn in the LED display .

LESSON FUNCTION The CN33 digital piano’ s Lesson function helps performers to practice the piano with a collection of etudes from Czerny and Burgmüller , or songs from Alfred’ s Basic Piano Librar y and Alfred’ s Premier Piano Course lesson books (USA, Canada, A ustralia and UK only).
P age 31 4 LESSON FUNCTION 2) LISTENING T O AND PLA YING A SONG Step 1 Press the PLA Y/ST OP button to pla y the selected song. There will be a one bar count-in bef ore the song star ts to pla y . Press the PLA Y/STOP b utton to stop and reset the song.
P age 32 4 LESSON FUNCTION 3) RECORDING A SONG PRA CTICE While in Lesson mode, song practice can be recorded f or playback and self-e valuation. The pre-recorded left and right-hand par ts will be heard while the song practice is recorded. As noted previously , the BALANCE slider may be used to mute either pre-recorded left or right-hand par ts.
P age 33 5 RECORDER 5. RECORDER The RECORDER function records perf or mances in a similar w ay to that of a tape recorder . Howe ver , the CN33 digital piano records songs as digital data, instead of audio data - storing the music inside the instrument.
P age 34 5 RECORDER Step 2 Star t to pla y the piano . The recorder will automatically star t recording with the first note pla yed. During this time, the LED indicators f or the REC and PLA Y/ST OP buttons will be tur ned on. Any changes made to the sound while recording will also be recorded.
P age 35 5 RECORDER Step 2 Star t to pla y the piano . While recording the second par t, the pre viously recorded first par t will also pla y . During this time, the LED indicators f or the REC button and PLA Y/STOP b utton will be turned on.
P age 36 5 RECORDER 2) PLA YING BA CK A SONG The PLA Y/STOP b utton is used to star t and stop pla yback of the recorded song, and to also select which song and par t is pla yed. Step 1 Press the PLA Y/ST OP button to star t pla ying the recorded song.
P age 37 5 RECORDER 3) ERASING A SONG This function allows an y songs that are no longer listened to , to be cleared. Step 1 Press and hold the REC and PLA Y/ST OP buttons .
P age 38 6 USB OPERA TIONS 6 . USB OPERA TIONS The CN33 digital piano allows recorder songs to be loaded from and sa ved to a USB memory device . It is also possible to pla y songs directly , delete files, and to f or mat the USB memory device .
P age 39 6 USB OPERA TIONS 2) USB LO AD The USB Load function allows recorder songs stored on a USB memory device to be loaded into the instrument’ s internal memor y . Step 1 After connecting a USB de vice , press the USB button. Step 2 Press the S or T V ALUE b uttons to select the USB Load function, then press the YES b utton.

Step 1 After connecting a USB de vice , press the USB button. Step 2 Press the S or T V ALUE b uttons to select the USB Sav e function, then press the YES b utton.

P age 43 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 7. FUNCTION B UTT ONS The function settings are responsible f or controlling v arious advanced parameters within the CN33 digital piano , and can be selected by pressing a combination of b uttons.
P age 44 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 1) LO WER OCT A VE SHIFT This function allows the lo wer par t to be raised b y one, tw o , or three octav es when using SPLIT mode. Step 1 Press and hold the TRANSPOSE and USB b uttons, then press the CONCER T MA GIC button.
P age 45 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 2) LO WER PED AL ON/OFF This function determines whether or not pressing the damper pedal will also sustain the Lower section sounds when in SPLIT mode. The def ault setting is off , which means the sustain pedal is not active f or low er par t sound.
P age 46 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 3) D AMPER HOLD ON/OFF This determines if the sound such as organ or str ings should be held (on) or gr adually decay ed (off) when the damper pedal is depressed. Step 1 Press and hold the TRANSPOSE and USB b uttons, then press the PIANO 1 b utton.
P age 47 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 4) D AMPER EFFECT When the damper pedal is depressed on an acoustic piano , all dampers are lifted up , allowing the strings to vibrate freely .
P age 48 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 5) STRING RESONANCE String Resonance refers to a phenomenon present among acoustic pianos , whereby the strings of held notes resonate ‘sympathetically’ with other notes of the same har monic series. The String Resonance function of the CN33 digital piano attempts to simulate this phenomenon.
P age 49 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 6) T OUCH CUR VE The T OUCH function allows different touch sensitivities f or the k eyboard to be selected, other than the standard touch of an acoustic piano . The sensitivity can be changed to one of five diff erent types: Light 2, Light 1, Heavy 1, Heavy 2 or Off .
P age 50 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 7) FOUR HANDS ON/OFF This function allows FOUR HANDS mode to be activ ated or deactivated using an alternative method. Step 1 Press and hold the TRANSPOSE and USB b uttons, then press the CHURCH ORGAN b utton. The displa y will alter nate betw een showing ‘4Hn’ (FOUR HANDS) and on/off status.
P age 51 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 8) TUNING The TUNING function allows the CN33 digital piano’ s pitch to be finely adjusted, and ma y prov e useful when pla ying with other instruments. Step 1 Press and hold the TRANSPOSE and USB b uttons, then press the HARPSI & MALLETS b utton.
P age 52 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 9) TEMPERAMENT The CN33 digital piano off ers immediate access to a variety of musical temperaments popular during the Renaissance and Baroque periods.
P age 53 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS Step 2 Press the S or T V ALUE b uttons to change the type of temperament. When the power is turned off , the temperament will reset to the f actor y def ault ‘equal temperament (piano only)’ type.
P age 54 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS MIDI O VER VIEW The term MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interf ace, an international standard for connecting synthesizers , sequencers (MIDI recorders) and other electronic instruments so that they can exchange perf or mance data.
P age 55 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 10) MIDI CHANNEL This function is used to determine on which MIDI channel the CN33 digital piano will exchange MIDI inf or mation with e xter nal MIDI de vices and instruments or a personal computer . The selected channel will function as both the transmit and receiv e channel.
P age 56 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 11) TRANSMIT PR OGRAM CHANGE ON/OFF This function determines whether or not the CN33 digital piano will transmit program change inf or mation when pressing the SOUND SELECT buttons . When tr ansmit program change is turned on, pressing the SOUND SELECT buttons will send the prog ram change numbers as listed below .
P age 57 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS In addition to the SOUND SELECT buttons , other button operations such as touch curve , dual, digital effects and re verb settings can be transmitted as MIDI e xclusive data when the corresponding buttons are pushed. When set to off , no program change or other panel inf ormation will be transmitted via MIDI.
P age 58 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 12) LOCAL CONTR OL ON/OFF This function determines whether the CN33 digital piano’s sound will be pla yed from the piano’ s k eyboard (‘ON’) or only from an e xter nal MIDI instrument (‘OFF’).
P age 59 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 13) MUL TI-TIMBRAL MODE ON/OFF This function allows the CN33 digital piano to receiv e data on more than one MIDI channel simultaneously . In this mode, the CN33 digital piano can pla y diff erent musical par ts with diff erent sounds for each par t.
P age 60 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 14) CHANNEL MUTE This function determines which MIDI channels are activated to receive MIDI inf or mation when multi-timbral mode is set to ON. Each of the 16 channels can be individually activated or deactiv ated. Step 1 Press and hold the TRANSPOSE and USB b uttons, then press the SPLIT b utton.
P age 61 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 15) SEND PR OGRAM CHANGE NUMBERS This function allows the CN33 digital piano to send progr am change numbers bey ond the 32 pre-defined numbers transmitted b y the SOUND SELECT buttons. Using this function, any n umber from 1 to 128 can be sent.
P age 62 7 FUNCTION BUTT ONS 16) USER MEMOR Y This function allows the CN33 digital piano to sa ve the user-definab le settings when the power is turned off . Once written to the memor y , the sav ed settings will be recalled ev ery time the power is turned on.

P age 64 8 APPENDICES 8. APPENDICES CONNECTING T O O THER DEVICES 1 MIDI JA CKS These jacks are used to connect e xternal MIDI devices with the CN33 digital piano . There are two terminals: MIDI IN and MIDI OUT . 2 USB JA CK This jack is used to connect with a personal computer and e xchange MIDI data.
