English – 9 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Cutting attac hment guard This guard is intended to pre vent loose objects from being thrown to wards the operator . The guard also protects the operator from accidental contact with the cutting attachment. Check that the guard is undamaged and not cr acked.

English – 11 GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Cutting equipment This section describes how to choose and maintain your cutting equipment in order to: • Reduce the risk of blade thrust. • Obtain maximum cutting perf or mance . • Extend the lif e of cutting equipment.
12 – English GENERAL SAFETY PRECA UTIONS Sharpening grass cutter s and grass blades • See the cutting attachment packaging f or correct shar pening instructions. Shar pen b lades and cutters using a single-cut flat file. • Shar pen all edges equally to maintain the balance of the blade .
English – 13 ASSEMBL Y Assembling the handlebar and thr ottle • Unscrew the knob from the handlebar mounting. • P osition the handlebar as shown. Fit the mounting components and tighten the knob lightly . • Fit the right handle to the handlebar using the screw , washer , sleev e and nut as shown.
14 – English ASSEMBL Y • Fit the suppor t flange (F) on the output shaft. Make sure that the blade is centered b y fitting it to the guide on the suppor t flange. • Screw the support cup (E) onto the output shaft threads (CA UTION! Left-hand thread).
English – 15 ASSEMBL Y • Tighten the trimmer head to a torque of 35-50 Nm (3.5-5 kpm). • T o dismantle, follo w the instructions in the rev erse order . Fitting other guar ds and cutting attachments Fit the trimmer guard/combination guard (A) intended for use with the trimmer head/plastic blades.
16 – English ASSEMBL Y V ector harness Safety release Push down the red release le ver to release the machine from the harness. Adjusting the harness 1 Tighten the hip strap so that it sits securely . 2 Tighten the chest strap under y our left ar m so that it fits closely around your body .
English – 17 FUEL HANDLING Fuel safety Ne ver star t the machine: 1 If you ha ve spilled fuel on it. Wipe off the spillage and allow remaining fuel to e vaporate . 2 If you ha ve spilled fuel on y ourself or your clothes , change your clothes . W ash any par t of your body that has come in contact with fuel.
18 – English FUEL HANDLING Mixing • Alwa ys mix the gasoline and oil in a clean container intended f or fuel. • Alwa ys star t by filling half the amount of the gasoline to be used. Then add the entire amount of oil. Mix (shake) the fuel mixture.
English – 19 ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Chec k before starting • Check the b lade to ensure that no cracks ha ve f or med at the bottom of the teeth or by the centre hole .
20 – English ST AR TING AND ST OPPING Starting Hold the body of the machine on the ground using y our left hand (CA UTION! Not with your foot!). Grip the star ter handle, slowly pull out the cord with y our right hand until you feel some resistance (the star ter pawls g rip), now quickly and powerfully pull the cord.
English – 21 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES General w orking instructions Basic safety rules 1 Look around you: • T o ensure that people, animals or other things cannot aff ect your control of the machine.
22 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES W orking methods • Bef ore you star t clearing, check the clearing area, the type of terrain, the slope of the ground, whether there are stones, hollo ws etc. • Star t at whiche ver end of the area is easiest, and clear an open space from which to work.
English – 23 W ORKING TECHNIQ UES • T o fell a tree f orwards, the bottom of the tree should be pulled backw ards. Pull the blade bac kwards with a quick, firm movement. • Large stems must be cut from two sides . First deter mine which direction the stem will f all.
24 – English W ORKING TECHNIQ UES Grass trimming with a trimmer head T rimming • Hold the trimmer head just above the g round at an angle. It is the end of the cord that does the work. Let the cord work at its own pace. Nev er press the cord into the area to be cut.
English – 25 MAINTENANCE Carb uretor Y our Jonsered product has been designed and manuf actured to specifications that reduce harmful exhaust fumes.
26 – English MAINTENANCE Low speed jet L T r y to find the highest idling speed, tur ning the lo w speed needle L clockwise respectiv ely counter-clockwise . When the highest speed has been f ound, tur n the low speed needle L 1/ 4 turn counter-clockwise.
English – 27 MAINTENANCE Correctly adjusted carb uretor When the carburetor is correctly adjusted the machine will accelerate without hesitation and b urble a little at maximum speed. It is also impor tant that the cutting attachment does not rotate at idle.
28 – English MAINTENANCE Bevel gear The be vel gear is filled with the right amount of grease at the f actor y . How ev er , bef ore using the machine you should check that the be vel gear is filled 3/4 full with grease . Use JONSERED special grease.
English – 29 MAINTENANCE Maintenance sc hedule The f ollowing is a list of the maintenance that must be perf or med on the machine . Most of the items are described in the Maintenance section. The user must only carr y out the maintenance and service work descr ibed in this manual.
