4 -EN Installation Location Make sure the CD A-9831/CDA-9830 will not be installed in a location subjected to: •D irect sun and heat •H igh humidity and water •E xcessiv e dust •E xcessiv e vibrations Correct Handling Do not drop the disc while handling.
5 -EN On handling Compact Discs (CD/CD-R/CD-RW) • Do not touch the surface. • Do not expose the disc to direct sunlight. • Do not aff ix stickers or labels. •C lean the disc when it is dusty . •M ake sure that there are no bumps around the disc.
6 -EN Getting Started Tu rning Power On and Off Press SOURCE/POWER to turn on the unit. • The unit can be turned on by pr essing any other button except eject c and TITLE . Press and hold SOURCE/POWER for at least 2 seconds to turn off the unit. • The first time power is turned on, the volume will start fr om level 12.
7 -EN Adjusting V olume Tu r n the Rotar y encoder until the desired sound is obtained. Lowering V olume Quickly Activ ating the Audio Mute function will instantly lo wer the volume lev el by 20 dB. Press MUTE to activate the MUTE mode. The audio level will decrease by about 20 dB.
8 -EN Radio Changing the Radio Frequencies for each Country Fo r customers not living in North America, change the radio frequencies as follows. 1 Press MENU to select the SETUP mode. 2 Select the "AREA" mode by pressing g or f . 3 Choose either AREA 1 or AREA 2 by turning the Rotary encoder .
9 -EN CD / MP3 / WMA Playback 1 Press c . The movable display will open. 2 Insert a disc with the label side facing up. The disc will be pulled into the unit automatically . The movable display will close and playback will begin. When a disc is already inserted, press SOURCE/PO WER to switch to the CD mode.
10 -EN • The CD-player can play discs containing audio data, MP3 data and WMA data. •A WMA format file that is pr otected by DRM (Digital Rights Management) cannot be played bac k on this unit. • "MP3" is displayed during MP3 playback.
11 -EN Repeat Play Press 4 ( ) to play bac k repeatedly the trac k being play ed. The track (file) will be played repeatedly . Press 4 ( ) again and select OFF to deactivate r epeat play .
12 -EN Scanning Programs Press 6 ( ) to activ ate the Scan mode . The first 10 seconds of each track (file) will be played back in succession. To stop scanning, press 6 ( ) and deactivate the Scan mode.
13 -EN Folder MP3/WMA File Method for creating MP3/WMA files Audio data is compressed by using MP3/WMA specified software. For details on cr eating MP3/WMA files, refer to the user's manual for that software. MP3/WMA files that can be played back by this device have the file extension “mp3” / “wma”.
14 -EN 4 Tu r n the Rotary encoder to select the desired setting. HPF (Setting the High P ass Filter): FLA T (OFF) ↔ 80Hz ↔ 120Hz ↔ 160Hz All frequencies above the selected cutof f are output. LPF (Setting the Low P ass Filter): FLA T (OFF) ↔ 80Hz ↔ 120Hz ↔ 160Hz All frequencies below the selected cutof f are output.
15 -EN Equalizer Presets 10 typical equalizer settings are preset at the factory for a v ariety of musical source material. 1 Press MENU to select Factory's EQ (P-EQ f or CD A-9830). 2 Press either g or f . With each press of the button, the equalizer mode will display the selected equalizer characteristic.

17 -EN 8 After setting, press MENU to select RETURN. The unit returns to normal mode. Pressing and holding MENU for at least 2 seconds will re tur n to normal mode. • Any manual time corr ection adjustments will also affect corr ections made in Bass F ocus.
18 -EN Adjusting and Storing the T ime Correction Before performing the following procedures, refer to "About Time Correction" (page 16). 1 Press and hold MENU for at least 2 seconds. 2 Press MENU to select T .CORR (T -CORR for CD A-9830). 3 Press g or f to make time corrections.
19 -EN Other Functions Displaying the T itle/T ext It is possible to display the CD/Station title if the title has been previously inputted (“T itling Discs/Stations” page 20). T ext information, such as the disc name and the track name, will be displayed if playing a CD text compatible disc.
20 -EN About “Title” and “T ext” Title: With this device, it is possible to input the CD/Station name (this page). This inputted name is referr ed to as a “title.” Y ou cannot input or display titles on MP3/WMA discs. Te xt: T ext compatible CDs contain text information such as the disc name and track name.
21 -EN Setting an Amplifier Link (CDA-9831 only) W ith an e xternal Amplif ier Link compatible amplifier MRD-M501 or MRD-M301 is connected, the amplifier settings are adjustable from the head unit. A maximum of 8 external amplif iers can be adjusted. 1 Press and hold MENU for at least 2 seconds.
22 -EN Setting the Multicolor Illumination (CDA-9831 only) Y ou can change the lighting color of the following four buttons: SOURCE/POWER, B AND/TEL, g and f .
23 -EN i-Personalize™ Operation (CDA-9831 only) About i-Personalize™ Y ou can download data (from Alpine’ s website) to a CD-R and download and store the data to the CD A-9831. To start i-Personalize, access the URL below and follow the on-screen instructions.
24 -EN SETUP Y ou can flexibly customize the unit to suit your own preferences and usage. Choose the SETUP menu from Sound Customizing, V isual Customizing, etc., to select your desired setting. The common operation for SETUP is step 1 to 4 as fo llows.
25 -EN Connecting to an External Amplifier PO WER-IC ON (Initial setting) / PO WER-IC OFF When an external amplif ier is connected, sound quality can be improv ed by stopping the power supply of the built-in amplif ier .
26 -EN XM Radio (Optional) Receiving XM Channels with the XM Receiver (Optional) XM Satellite Radio* is the next generation of audio entertainment, with up to 100 brand-new digital channels. F or a small monthly fee, subscribers can hear crystal-clear music, sports, news and talk, coast- to-coast via satellite.

29 -EN Calling by the outgoing/incoming/absent incoming history Y ou can place a call to any of the last 999 calls by the outgoing/ incoming/absent incoming history .
30 -EN Changer (Optional) Controlling CD Changer (Optional) An optional 6-disc or 12-disc CD Changer may be connected to this unit if it is Ai-NET compatible. With a CD Changer connected to the Ai-NET input of this unit, the CD Changer will be controllable from this unit.
