Chapter 2 Paper Handling 2-3 P aper Handling Selecting Print Media This section describes the different print media you can use with your M ultiP ASS. T o achieve the best possible printing performance, be sure to select the correct print media. Plain P aper The M ultiP ASS supports paper sizes of letter , legal, and A4 in portr ait orientation.
2-4 Paper Handling Chapter 2 Banner P aper This paper is specifically designed for printing one continuous sheet in a banner format. The c onnect ed sheets ar e divided by a perforation.
Chapter 2 Paper Handling 2-5 P aper Handling Transparencies Canon T r ansparencies ar e recommended. These tr ansparencies pr oduce ex cellent contrast, sharpness, and color t o produce crisp and professional o verhead presentations. Do not use nor mal transparencies in the M ultiP ASS, as they do not absorb ink and may cause ink to run.

If the pr inter co ver does not open easily , slide the document guides outward and then open the printer cov er . ❑ Open the printer cov er by grasping the document guides and lifting.

This may cause the paper to misfeed or jam. ❑ Depending on the density of your printed pages, the ink may need time t o dr y .

3-2 Document Handling Chapter 3 Document Requirements for Faxing, Copying, and Scanning The documents you feed int o the A utomatic Document F eeder (ADF) for faxing, copying, and scanning must meet the following requirements.
Chapter 3 Document Handling 3-3 Document Handling Problem Documents ❑ T o prevent paper jams in the ADF , do not use an y of the following in the M ultiP ASS: ❑ Re move all staples, paper clips, or an y other fasteners before loading the document into the ADF .

Chapter 3 Document Handling 3-5 Document Handling Selecting Automatic/Manual Document Feed W ith the M ultiP ASS, y ou can select whether you want to scan documents automatically or manually . A utomatic document feed is used when scanning multipage documents on normal paper .

Chapter 3 Document Handling 3-9 Document Handling T roub le With Multipage Documents If you hav e trouble feeding a multipage document, do the following: 1. Re move the stack and tap it on a flat surfac e to even the edges. 2. “Slant” the stack so that its front edge is bevelled as sho w n below , then insert the stack into the ADF .
3-10 Document Handling Chapter 3 Adding P ages to the Document The M ultiP ASS A utomatic Document F eeder (ADF) can hold up to 20 letter , 20 A4, or 10 legal-size pages at a time when the document feed lever is set to automatic document feed. If your document has more pages than this, you can add pages while the M ultiP ASS is scanning.

Chapter 3 Document Handling 3-13 Document Handling Copying Documents One of the con venient features of your M ultiP ASS is its ability to make up to 99 high-qualit y black & white c opies. I t can also make one c olor copy of a document at a time.

Chapter 4 Sending Faxes 4-3 Sending Fax es Setting the Scanning Resolution Resolution is a measur e of the fineness or clarit y of a printout and is usually expressed in horizontal and v ertical dots per inch (dpi).
4-4 Sending Faxes Chapter 4 (203 x 196 dpi with halftones) — Suitable for documents that contain phot ogr aphs. W ith this setting , areas of the document that contain phot os are automatically scanned with 64 levels of gray , rather than just tw o (black & white).
Chapter 4 Sending Faxes 4-5 Sending Fax es Setting the Scanning Contrast Contrast is the difference in brightness between the lightest and darkest parts of a printed document. Y ou can adjust the contrast the M ultiP ASS uses to send faxes. Adjust the c ontrast accor ding to how light or dark your document is.
4-6 Sending Faxes Chapter 4 Sending Methods This section describes the methods and advantages of the two main sending methods. ❑ Memory sending Allows y ou to send a document easily and quickly . ❑ Manual sending Allows y ou to talk to the other party before you send the document.

Pr ess Stop . ❑ For man ual sending, the transmission is canceled. ❑ For memory sending, the M ultiP ASS asks you t o confirm that you want t o cancel.

Chapter 4 Sending Faxes 4-13 Sending Fax es Redialing When the Line Is Busy There are tw o methods of redialing: man ual redialing and automatic redialing. Manual Redialing Pr ess the Redial/Pause butt on to dial the last number y ou dialed with the numeric buttons.
4-14 Sending Faxes Chapter 4 W hen it begins redialing, the L CD display sho ws details on the transmission. If the receiving fax machine is still busy on the last attempt, the L CD display shows BUSY/NO SIGNAL , the transaction number ( TX/RX NO. ), and prints the Error TX report (if set to print one).
Chapter 4 Sending Faxes 4-15 Sending Fax es Sequential Broadcasting Sending a Document to More Than One Destination Follo w this pr oc edur e t o scan a document onc e and send it t o sev eral destinations. W ith this sending method, called sequential broadcasting, y ou can send the same document to a maximum of 113 destinations.

Pr epare the document and load it, facedown, in the A utomatic Document Feeder (ADF). ❑ The L CD display sho ws the following: ❑ If you are sending in color t o a fax machine with color capability , press Color/B&W to turn on its light (see page 4-2).

Chapter 4 Sending Faxes 4-19 Sending Fax es Documents Stored in Memory Printing a List of Documents in Memory The M ultiP ASS can pr int out a list of documents stored in memory , along with the transaction number (TX/RX NO .) of each. Once you kno w the tr ansaction number of a document in memor y , you can print it or delete it.

Chapter 4 Sending Faxes 4-25 Sending Fax es Special Dialing This section explains special dialing features, such as dialing through a switchboard and dialing international numbers. Dialing Through a Switchboard A PBX (Private B ranch Exchange) is an on-sit e telephone switchboard.
