Unpacking the Machine Remove all shipping tape and packing materials from the machine . 1 2 3 When carrying the machine, grip the handles on both left and right sides of the machine and lift it carefully , as shown in the illustration below .

2 W hat Y ou C an Do with the Machine Y ou can use the f ollowing functions with imageCLASS MF4270..
3 F ind Y our P urpose on the Machine F or using each function (COP Y , F AX, PRINTER, SCANNER, PC F AXING, REMO TE UI), follow the settings in the owchart below . F or example, when you use c opy function only , follow “Necessar y Settings” . When you use both copy and fax function, follow “Necessar y Settings” and “F ax Settings” .

5 Install T oner Car tridge 1 Remove the toner cartridge from the bag. Do not open the drum protective shutter (A ). 2 Gently rock the toner cartridge several times to evenly distribute the toner inside . 3 Place the toner cartridge on a at sur face and pull the seal completely out.
6 5 Lift the scanning platform (A) un til it is locked. ( Y ou will hear an audible “ click . ”) 6 Hold the grip (A) on the right fr ont side of the toner cov er .
7 12 Close the toner cov er . 13 Low er the scanning platform. Be careful not to get your ngers caught . If you cannot close the toner cov er , do not forc e it to close. Open the cov er and make sure the toner cartridge is properly set in the machine.
8 1 Align the guides (B) on the both edges of the paper cassette to the protrusions ( A) inside the machine. Install the paper cassette with the front end tilted upwar ds. 2 Push the paper cassette do wn until the hooks (A) on both sides of the paper cassett e engage the protrusions (B) inside the machine.
9 7 Load the paper into the paper cassett e with the print side up. Make sur e the paper stack sits below the small n (A) on the side paper guide . 8 Adjust the paper guide rail t o match the size of paper . 9 Close the front panel of the paper cassette .
10 C onnec t the P ow er Cor d and T urn O n the Machine 1 Connect the power cor d into the rear socket on the back side of the machine and the wall outlet , and press the [I] side of the main power swit ch (A) to ON. 2 The machine enters the standb y mode.
11 Set the Date and T ime Before using the machine , you MUST set the current dat e and time. The current date and time settings ar e used as standard timer settings f or func tions that requir e them. Entering Information Numeric keys: Enters numbers .
12 C onnec t T elephone Cables Connect the supplied telephone cable to the telephone line jack ( A) on the back side of the machine and the wall jack. If you want to connect your own e xternal telephone or telephone with built-in answering machine, connect it to external device jack (B) on the back side of machine.
13 Before F AX Setting By default, telephone line type on the machine is set to tone dialing . When you use tone dialing , skip the following pr ocedure . When you use pulse dialing , follow the pr ocedure below and change the telephone line type setting to <ROT ARY PULSE> on the machine.
14 Set the Machine for Sending F ax es Use the follo wing keys to enter inf ormation in the machine. Y ou can ent er the following characters in each input mode: Use the numeric keys to ent er characters. Pr ess the numeric key repeatedly until the required char acter appears.
15 Registering Sender Information 1 Pr ess [Additional F unc tions]. 2 Pr ess [ ] or [ ] to select <6 F AX SET TINGS>, then press [ OK ]. 3 Pr ess [ ] or [ ] to select <2 USER SET TINGS>, then press [ OK ]. 4 Pr ess [ ] or [ ] to select <1 UNIT TELEPHONE #>, then press [ OK ].
16 Selec t the Receiv e Mode that Suits Y our Needs The rec eive mode determines how the machine responds t o incoming faxes and voic e calls. Select the mode which is most suitable for y ou from the char t below . For details , see “ About the Receiving Modes, ” on p.

19 About U ser Sof t war e CD MF Driver & T oolbox UFRII L T Driver The Canon UFRII L T printer driver enables you t o print from an y application soft ware to the machine. T aking full advantage of your PC ’ s processing po wer to compress the print da ta, this driver ex ecutes the high-speed data processing .
20 Bundled Progr am T o install the f ollowing programs , load the User Soft ware CD int o a computer , click on the [Easy Installation] or [Cust om Installation] button on the CD-ROM S etup (Soft ware P rograms) scr een, then follow the instructions that appear on the screen.
21 Sof tware Settings with C omputer Networ k C onnec tion C onnec t the Machine to a Netw ork Connect a Category 5 or greater twisted pair LAN cable to the 10Base- T/100Base - T X por t on the back of the machine. C onnec t the other end of the cable to a network router or a hub .

23 Installation Pr ocedure 1 2 If the MF4200 Series CD -ROM Setup screen is not display ed, click [start] on the Window s task bar → [My Computer]. Window s Vista: click [start] on the Window s task bar → [Computer]. Window s 2000: double - click [My Computer] on the Windows desktop .
24 7 ① Select your machine on the list. Make sure that the machine name is highlighted. ② Click [Next>]. 8 Select [Printer] and [F A X (for Supported Models)]. 9 When you share the print er with Window s 2000/XP/Ser ver 2003/Vista, select [Use as Sheared Printer].
25 14 A printer test page is printed out fr om the machine. If you select the [F ax:Canon MF4200 Series (F AX)], [F ax S ending Settings] screen appears. Specify the necessary information such as name, t elephone number , etc then send the test page. If you want to cancel the opera tion, press [C ancel] on this screen.
26 Checking the Installation Check if the driver is installed successfully and if this machine has been set as default print er . If the name of your machine is selected on the [printer] screen from an application, it is set as default print er . 1 Open the [Printers and F axes] f older ( W indows 2000: the [P rinters] dialog box).
27 USB C onnec tion Before Installation Do not connect the USB cable before installing the software. If y ou connect the USB cable before installing the software and the F ound New Hardware Wizar d screen appears, click [ Cancel]. F or W indow s 2000/XP/Ser ver 2003/V ista, logon as Administr ator to install the software .

P ageManager and ScanS oft OmniP age, follow the on-scr een instructions. 13 14 After checking [Restar t Computer Now (recommended)] butt on, you can restart your computer by clicking the [Restar t] button. 15 Remove the attachment ( A) which covers on the USB port on the back of the machine.
29 16 After restarting your computer , connect the machine and your computer with a USB cable (A ). Depending on the operation system you use, the dialog bo x to inform you that new hardwar e is detected may appear . Follow the on-screen instruction to complete the installation.
30 Checking the Installation Check if the driver is installed successfully and if this machine has been set as default print er . 31 Before uninstalla tion, make sure of the following: Y ou ha ve the installation software available for installa tion. No application is running on your comput er . F or uninstallation in Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003/Vista, you must be the user with administr ative privileges.
32 Using Online Help Y ou can locat e additional help in the online help le provided with the driv er soft ware. In the [P roperties] dialog box, y ou can click [Help] to display information about ev er y featur e and option in the drivers.
