19 Preparations This chapter desc ribes basic oper ations, such as navi gating the menus, and first time settings to help y ou learn more about your camcord er . Charging th e Battery P ack The camc order can be p owere d with a battery pack or direct ly usi ng the compact pow er adapter .
Preparations 20 7 Charging will start whe n the camc order is tur ned off. • The ON/OFF(CHG) indicator starts flashing in r ed. The ind icator will go out when the char ging is comple ted. • If the indicator fl ashes qui ckly , ref er t o T ro ubleshooting ( 87).
21 • T o preven t equipment breakdowns and excess ive heat ing, do not con nect the supplied compact power adapter to volt age conver ters for over seas tra vels or special pow er sources such as those on aircraft and ships, DC-AC inverters, etc. NOTES • T urn off t he cam corder b efore cha r ging the battery pack.
Preparations 22 Pass th e attachi ng end of the wr ist strap through the back brac ket on the camcorder , thread the wrist strap through the loop an d fasten. Y o u can also atta ch the wrist strap to the strap mount on the grip belt to use both for extra convenience and pro tection.
23 NOTES About the LCD screen: The s creen is pr oduced us ing extr emel y high- preci sion manufac turing te chniques, w ith mor e than 99.99 % of the pix els operat ing to specification. Less th an 0.01% of the pixels may occasionally misfire or appear as black, r ed, blue or gr een dots.
Preparations 24 Opera ting Mo des The camcor der’ s operating mode is determined by the button and the po sition of the came ra mode dial. In this manual, indicate s that a function is available in the operating mode shown and indicate s that the function is not a vailable.

73 Saving your R ecordings without a Computer If you p r efer to save your recordings without having to use a computer , you can use the optiona l DW-100 DVD Burner to cr eat e DVD discs of your movies and Photo DVDs of your photos ( 73). Y ou can also connect the cam corder to an exter nal recordin g device (DVD or HDD r ecord er , VCR, etc.

If it becomes hot very quickly or it becomes too ho t to touch, it may indicate a problem with the camcor der .
