8 Quick Star t (Continued) Open the paper cassette’ s top and middle co vers . 1 Place the paper (postcard size , 5 sheets), glossy side up and the address/stamp side ne xt to the middle cov er , in the paper cassette. 2 Place the middle cov er bac k to its original position, and lea v e the top cov er open.
9 4 Connecting the Printer to a P ower Sour ce (p. 29) Connect the compact po wer adapte r to the printer’ s DC IN ter minal. 2 • At this point, the po wer will turn on and the printer’ s displa y windo w will light blu e. Inser t th e power cord into the compact pow er adapter and plug the other end into a po wer outlet.

12 What Can Be Accomplished with this Printer Four paper sizes and tw o types of labels Y ou can print on standard paper in postcard siz e, L size, credi t card size or wide si ze (100 × 200 mm (4 × 8 in.)). In addition to the standard size paper , you can print full-siz ed labels or 8-label stic kers with the credit card siz e paper .

14 Po w e r Usage Location Do not exceed the cable and power ou tlet ratings when operating thi s prod uct. Do not operate thi s product outside of the specified v oltage ra ting. Connecti ng too many de vices to the same outlet ma y result in fire.
15 Devices Po w e r CA UTIONS Do not bloc k the air vents on the printer . Blocki ng the ve nts ma y cause the inside of t he printer to ov erheat, resulting in damage to internal components and risk of equipmen t f ailure or fire. Use the de vices in a well-v entilated area.
16 Usage Location Do not use the de vices in locatio ns that are smoky , humid, dusty , or subject to str ong vibration. Entry of water or dust into the de vices, or internal damage caused b y strong vibration, ma y pose risk of fire or electric shock.

20 P aper Storage Others Do not touch p aper while it is being printed . During printing, the sheet repeatedly mo ve s back and f or th along the top of the paper cassett e and in and out t hrough the paper-handli ng slot. Please do not touch the sheet du ring this process .

23 Let’ s Print Preparing Y our Ink Cassette/Paper Sets and P aper Cassette Since there are se ver al kinds of ink/paper set (including the separately sold sets), please make sure y ou are using the r ight ink cassette and paper cassette f or the chosen paper .
24 Printing on Credit Card Size P aper (54 × 86 mm (2.1 × 3.4 in.)) • The pape r cassette PCC-CP100 (sold separ ately) is requi red when printing on credit card size paper .
25 Loading the Ink Cassette 1 Open the ink cassette compartment cover . 2 Remove an y slack fr om the ink sheet. • Push i n on the spro ck et, and turn it gentl y in the indicated direc tion to tak e up the slac k until the ink sheet straighte ns out (It will not be possib le to print to all of the paper if you ov erwind the ink she et).
26 Placing the P aper into the P aper Cassette 1 Open the paper cassette’ s top cove r and middl e cover . • Open the top cov er , then push the middle cov er in the directio n of the arrow and lift it up . 2 Fan the paper stac k properl y and place the paper into the paper cassette, with the printable side (glossy side) facing up.
27 • Insert the L size paper (sold separately ) as shown in t he figure below 3 Place the middle co ver back to its original position. • Aft er pulling the midd le cov er down , slide it in the direction of the arro ws until it clic ks back into place .
28 Loading the P aper Cassette 1 Open the paper cassette compartment cover . 2 Push the paper cassette all the way into the paper cassette slot. • Be sure th e paper is set correctly bef ore pushing the cassett e in. • I nser t the paper casset te e ven ly so that it slides o v er the bottom of the slot entrance .
29 Connecting a P ower Sour ce and the Camera to the Printer Connect the camera to the printer usin g the cable (included with the camer a) and turn the printer’ s pow er on. F or more detailed camer a connection instructions, ref er to y our Camer a User Guide or Direct Print User Guide .
30 T urning the Printer’ s P ower Off Unplug the cable of the compact po wer adapter from the printer . (The displa y window will shut off) 4 Connect the Compact P ower Adapter cable to the printer . • The pow er turns on and the printer’ s display wi ndow lights blue .

32 Printing on the Separately Sold Wide Size (100 × 200 mm (4 × 8 in.)) P aper Y ou can mak e y our own message cards and greeting cards . The cards are printed as explained belo w . • If ( PictBridge ) mark appears on step 1 on page 31, select [Def ault] on the paper size setting s creen.
33 T roubleshooting If the printer does not seem to be working properly , run through the checks below to see if y ou can identify and correct the proble m. If you are not ab le to solv e the prob lem, please call your dealer or contact a Canon Customer Suppor t help desk f or assistance.
34 The printer’ s display window lights red without the camera’ s LCD monitor displaying any error message. There is a malfunction in the printer . Remove the paper from the paper -handling slot and take up any slack in the ink sheet. T urn the printer’ s power off and turn it on again.
35 Error Messages If a prob lem occurs while the printer is connected to the camera, the printer’ s displa y window will light or b link red and the camera’ s LCD monitor ma y displa y one of the messages indicated be low . (If the camera is connected to a TV , the message will appear on the TV screen.
36 Cannot Print! The image was tak en with a different camera, recorded in a different format, or has been altered by a computer . Check whether the image’ s size matches the camera’ s pixel capacity . If the size is not appropriate, resize the image and convert as necessary so that the image is in a JPEG format that the camera can display .

42 Printing Operations Overview F ollow the steps outlined be lo w to prepare the printe r and install th e necessar y software to enab le pr inting. Prepare the printer . See this guide. (p . 25 – p. 30 ) Load the paper and ink cassette into the printer and turn the printer powe r on.
43 Installing the Software and the Printer Driver The CP Printer Solution Disk contains software that your computer will require f or printing. Install the sof tware and the printer driv er according to the f ollowing steps. Windows • Be sure to instal l the software and the printer driver bef ore connecting the printer to the computer .
44 Ne xt, install the printer driver to your computer . 4 Select [Easy Installation] as the setup type and c lick [Ne xt]. • Sel ect [Custom Installa tion] to select prog rams f or individual installation. 5 Click [Y es] if yo u consent to all the conditions of the software license a greement.
45 10 When the screen below appear s, connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable. • Ref er to Connecting the Printer to Y our Computer (p. 49 ) on how to conne ct. • F ollow the screen messages to proceed. 11 When the installation is complete, c lick [Exit], and then remove the CP Printer Solution Disk fr om the CD-ROM drive .

49 Connecting the Printer to Y our Computer Notes about connection In using the USB cable, be sure to conn ect the printer directl y to yo ur computer . If you connect the USB cab le via a USB hub , the pr inter ma y not function properly . Do not use other USB devices (with the e xception of a USB mouse or keyboar d) with the printer .
50 1 Connect one end of a commer cially av ailable USB cable (sold separately) to the USB port on the printer , and the other end to a USB port on your computer .

52 Uninstalling the Software This section describes how to un install the softw are. Windows The instructions in this section are intend ed f or uninstallation of ZoomBro wser EX. • Uninst all the sof tware when i t is no long er needed, or if a prob lem occurs and uninstalling become s necessary .
53 Macintosh Uninstall the programs b y dragging the ap plication’ s f older (the f older in which it was instal led) into the T rash, and then empty the T rash. • Please be careful not to acciden tally delete any f olders with do wnloaded images that ma y be contained wit hin the appli cation f older .
54 Uninstalling the Printer Driver This section descr ibes ho w to uninstall the pr inter driver . Windows • Uninst all the printer driver if it is no longer needed, or if a prob lem occurs and uninstalling become s necessary . Note that if you uninst all the printer driver , you will no longer be ab le to use the printer to print.
55 Macintosh 1 Place the CP Printer Solution Disk in the CD-R OM drive , and double-c lick the [Canon CP Printer Installer] icon. • The in staller panel appears . 2 Click th e CP Printer Driver [Install] b utton. 3 Click the printer y ou wish to uninstall.
56 Ne xt, delete the pr inte r from the Pr inter List. 6 Click th e [Continue] b utton to automatically clo se any applications other than the uninstaller . 7 When the uninstallation is complete, c lick [Quit], and then remove the CP Printer Solution Disk fr om the CD-ROM drive .
57 Printing with Non-Canon Digital Cameras Since the CP400 printers support the direct print PictBridge * standard, you can connect PictBridge compliant non-Canon digital cameras to easily print high image quality photos .
