The process of setting up the 640R is first to mak e all the connections to your speak ers and source equipment and then set the unit up via its On-Screen Display (OSD), as there are v arious settings and adjustments that need to be made bef ore the 640R can be used.

640R azur 7 Rear panel connections Update/Normal For dealer use only - Switches the 640R between normal (def ault) mode and software update mode. Do no t change the mode to updat e or make connections to it in updat e mode as damage may result! RS232C Used for contr ol of the 640R in Custom Install situations.
8 Remote control T une / Left & Right Press the right arrow t o increase tuner frequency/change preset. Press the left arrow to decrease tuner frequency/change preset. Also used to scr oll lef t/right in the OSD setup menus. Enter Used in the OSD setup menus.

10 Analog audio connections Note: Do no t plug in the mains power lead or turn the unit on until all connections hav e been made. Connect to source eq uipment using stereo phono cables (stereo 2RCA- 2RCA). T ape/MD/CDR recor der/players require two sets of st ereo phono/RCA cables, one f or recording, one for listening.
640R azur 11 ENGLISH Video connections Three types of video connections can be made to the 640R: 1. Composite - connect with single 75 ohm video phono cable (R CA - RCA). 2. S-Video - connect with S-Video cable. 3. Com ponent - connect with 75 ohm Component video cables (3RCA- 3RCA).
T o connect ext ernal power amplifiers, use Phono/RCA leads connected to the 7 . 1 Preamp Outputs on the rear panel. For 5. 1/6. 1/7 . 1 use set the ‘Pre Out’ setting in the ‘Output Setup’ OSD menu to 'Pre Out' rather than 'Normal'.

14 F ront Lef t and Right speakers For st ereo and multi-channel sound. Centre speaker For dialogue and centre sounds. Ideally position at a similar height t o the front left and right speakers (abov e or below the T V/monitor). Using a centre speaker fr om the same manufacturer/range as used for the front left and right speakers is advisable.
Set the package as 5. 1, 6. 1 or 7 . 1 by highlighting the Decode Mode it em and using the Left and Right arrows t o scroll through the options: Now mov e down and by highlighting each speak er in turn and using the Left and Right arro ws select from ‘Large’, ‘Small’ or ‘None’ for each speaker .
16 The 640R allows lev el calibration to match the acoustic level betw een different types/sizes or ev en manufacturers of speaker that may be being used for each channel. This is achie ved by adjusting the relative lev el of each speaker through the ‘Lev el Calibration’ menu in the OSD.
640R azur 17 ENGLISH Video connection type The 640R provides transcoding or con version between Composit e, S- Video or Component video f ormats. This function is ver y useful in that it allows f or a single analog connection type to be made to the TV/Monitor ev en if dif ferent input video connection types are used f or dif ferent source inputs.
Pro Logic II mat erial can be played back by normal St ereo equipment (as Stereo) or decoded int o 5 channel surround-sound. Dolby Pr o Logic II is compatible with the earlier 4 channel (Lef t, Centre.
Dolby Digital EX/DTS ES Modes - Selects a range of digital surround modes with the appropriat ely digitally encoded material (only). These modes are for use with the digital outputs (set t o Bitstream/Raw) from DVD pla yers or satellite receiv ers etc.

640R azur 23 ENGLISH Dynamic Range Control This setting controls the dynamic range of Dolb y Digital or DTS movie soundtracks by compressing the dynamics in f our stages to limit the difference in lev el between loud and quiet passages in the movie. This can be a useful feature when w atching movies late at night f or instance.
As cov ered in the “6 40R ov er view” section the 640R performs bass management for an y speaker that is set to ‘Small’ in the OSD. This means that bass for speak ers that are unable to reproduce it effectively is instead r outed to the subw oofer .
Use the V ol Up , Vol Down , Left and Right buttons t o move around the character edit screen t o select the required characters, press enter to mov e to the next character . Selecting the <- and -> arrows at the bott om of the screen and pressing Enter also mo ves the currently edited character left or right.
A-BUS is a standard that allows compatibility betw een dif ferent manufacturers equipment, so A-BUS compatible ke ypads from other manufacturers can also be used. If used with our own Incognito KP1 0 ke ypads, there are some extra features such as the ability t o change source on the 640R from the k eypad.
640R azur 27 ENGLISH The 640R features Contr ol Bus inputs and outputs that allow un-modulated remo te control commands (positive logic, TTL le vel) to be received electrically b y the unit. These control commands are typically generated b y custom installation (multi-room) systems or remote IR receiv er systems.
