8 2 Loadin g paper and other print medi a 2 Note To print on Photo (10 15 cm) or Photo L (89 127 mm) paper, you must use the photo paper tray . (See Loading p hoto paper on page 12.) a If the p aper supp ort fla p is open, close it, and then close the paper support .
Loading p aper 9 2 Note When you use Legal size pape r , press and hol d the universal guide r elease butt on (1) as you s lide out th e front of the paper tray. d Fan the stack of paper well to avoid paper jams and mi s feeds. IMPORT ANT Always ma k e sure tha t the paper is not curled.
Chapter 2 10 g Close the output paper tray cover. h Slowly push the paper tray completely into t he mac hine. i While holdi ng the paper tray in plac e, pull out the pape r support ( ) until it clicks, and then unfold the paper support flap ( ). IMPORT ANT DO NOT use the paper support flap for Legal s ize pape r.
Loading p aper 11 2 How to lo ad en velo pes a nd pos tcard s 2 a Befor e loading, press t he corn ers and sides of envelopes or postcar ds to make them as flat as pos s ible. IMPORT ANT If envelop es or postcards are “doub le-feeding”, put one envelo pe or postc ard in the paper tray at a time.

Loading p aper 13 2 b Press and slid e the paper s ide guides (1) and paper len gth guide (2) to fit the paper size. c Put the photo pape r into the photo paper tray and gently adjust the paper side guides to the paper. Make sur e the p aper s ide g uides touch the si des of the paper.
Chapter 2 14 IMPORT ANT If you do not return th e pho to paper t ray to th e No rmal printi ng positi on after printi ng photos, you will get a No Paper Fed error when yo u use standard paper .

Th e figures below show the unprin table areas on cut sheet paper and envelope s. The machine can print in the shaded areas of cut sheet paper when the Bor derless print feature is avail able and turned on.

Using the ADF (DCP-J7 15W only ) 3 The ADF can hold up to 15 pages and fe eds each sheet individuall y. Use standar d 80 gsm paper and always fan t he pages before putting them i n the A DF.

31 6 6 Prin ting a document 6 The machine can rec eive data from your computer and print it. T o print from a computer, instal l the printer driver. (Se e Printing for Windows ® or Printing and Fax ing for Macin tosh in the Softwa re User’s Guid e f or the detail s about t he print set tings.
32 7 Scann ing a docum ent 7 There ar e s eve r al ways to scan document s. You can use t he SCAN key on t he mach ine or the sc anner drivers on your computer. a To use th e machine a s a s c anner , install a scanner dri v er. If the mach ine is on a Network , configure it with a TCP/IP address.
33 A A Replac ing the ink cartridges A Your mac hine is equipped with an ink dot counter. The ink dot counter aut om atical ly monitor s the level of ink in each of th e 4 cartridg es. When the machine det ects an ink cartridg e is r unning o ut of in k, the machine will tell you wit h a message on the LCD.
34 b Press the l ock releas e lever as s hown to release the cart ridge ind icated on the LCD. Re move t he cartridge from the machine. c Open the new ink cartr idge bag for the colour shown on the LCD, and then take out t he ink car tridge .
Routin e maintenan ce 35 A f Gentl y push the ink cartri dge in until it clicks, and then close the ink cartridge cover. g The mach ine will autom atically res et the ink dot coun ter. Note • I f you replaced an ink cartr idge, for example Black, the LCD may as k you t o verif y that i t was a brand new one (for example , Did You Change Black ).

38 j After cle aning is finished, press Colour Sta rt . The mac hine st arts pr inting the Print Qualit y Check Sheet agai n. Return to step f . k Pres s Stop/Ex it . If you repeat this proc edure at least five times and the pri nt qualit y is s til l poor , replace the ink cartridge for the c logged colour .
39 B B Error and Ma intena nce me ssa ges B As with any sophi sticated of fice product, errors may occur and c onsumable items m ay ne ed t o be replaced. If this happens, your machine ide ntifie s the e r ror and shows an erro r message . The most comm on error and mai ntenance mes sages ar e shown below.
40 Cannot Detect You i nstal led a new ink cart ridge too quickly and t he mac hine did not detect it. Tak e out the new ink car tridge a nd re-in stall i t slowly. If you are us ing non Br other Original ink the machine may not detect the ink cart ridge.

42 Out of Memory T he machin e's memory is full. Copy operati on in progre ss: Press Stop/Ex it and wait unti l the othe r opera tions in pr ogres s finish and th en tr y agai n. The memor y card or USB F lash memory drive you are using does not have en ough free s pace to scan the doc umen ts.
Troubleshoot ing 43 B Error animation B Error animat ions display ste p-by-step instruct ions when paper gets jammed. Yo u can read the steps at your own pace by pressing c to see the next st ep and d to go backward.
44 Printer jam or pa per ja m B Take out t he jammed pap er de pending on wher e it is jammed i n the machine. a Unplug the mach ine from the el ectrical sock et. b Open t he Jam Clear Cover (1) at the back of the machine. P ull the jamm ed paper out of the machine.
Troubleshoot ing 45 B f Using both ha nds, grasp the plast ic tabs on both sides of the machine and lift the scanner c over (1) until it locks se c ure ly in the open positi on. Move the print head (if necess ary) to take ou t any paper rem aining in this area.
