Use standard 80 g/m 2 (20 l b) paper and always fan the pages bef ore putti ng them in the ADF.

Chapter 2 12 Acceptabl e paper and other med ia 2 The print quality can be affected by the type of p aper you are using in the machi ne. To ge t the be s t print qua lity for the s ettings you have chos en, always set the Pap er T ype to mat ch the t ype of paper y ou lo ad.

Chapter 2 18 g Slowly push the paper tray completely back in t o th e machine. h While holding the paper tray in place, pull out the pape r s upport (1) until i t clicks and unfold the pa per support flap (2 ). Note Do not use the paper support flap for Legal paper.
Loading doc uments a nd paper 19 2 How to load en vel opes and post cards 2 a Before lo ading, press the corners and sides of the envelopes or post cards to make t hem as flat as possible. Note If the envelopes or post cards are ‘double- feedi ng,’ put one envelope i n the pape r tray a t a time.
Chapter 2 20 Loading phot o paper 2 Use the photo paper tray which has been assem bl ed on the top of th e paper tr ay to print on photo 10 × 15 cm and phot o L size paper. You can leave paper in the standard paper tray when using t he photo paper tray.

Chapter 2 22 Print abl e Area 2 The printable area depend s on the settings in the application you are using. The figures below show the unprintable area s on cut shee t paper and envelopes. T he machine can only print in the shade d area s when the B orderless prin t feature is available and turned on.

72 WARNIN G If ink gets in y our eyes, wash them out with water at on ce and c al l a doctor if y ou a r e concerned. CAUTION DO NOT take out ink cartrid ges if you do not need to replace them. If you do so, it may reduc e the in k quan t ity a nd the machine will not k now the quantity of ink left in t he cartridge.

74 Cl ea ni ng the ma ch in e pri nt er plat en B WARNIN G Unplug the machine from the AC power outlet before cleaning the printer platen (1). a Clean the machin e printer pl aten (1) a nd the area around it, wiping off any scattered ink with a soft, dry, lint-free cl oth .

You can start the cleani ng p rocess manually if needed. Clean the print head and ink cartridges if you get a horizontal line in the t ext or graphics on your printed p ages.
76 After replacing t he in k cartridge, check the print quali t y. If the problem still exists, repeat t he cleaning and test print procedures a t least five times f or the new ink cartridge. If i nk is still m issing, call your B rother dealer. CAUTION DO NOT to uch t he prin t head.
