Getting Started 17 Installing the Battery You can use either a CR-V3 battery, like the one in cluded with the camera, or tw o AA batteries. 1. To open the battery/memor y card cove r, slide it to the right until it pops up.

Getting Started 19 Installing and Removing Memory Cards You can take pictures and save them in the camera without a memory card. However, you can store more pictures when you use a memory c ard. Once a card is in serted, all the photos you take are saved on the card, not in the camera, and you can on ly view the photos on the card.
Getting Started 20 To install a memory card: 1. Make sure the cam era is turned off. 1. To open the battery/memor y card cove r, slide it to the right until it pops up.
Getting Started 21 3. To close the battery/memory card cover, pre ss it down, then slide it ba ck into place. To remove a memory card: 1. Make sure the cam era is turned off. 2. Open the battery/memory card cover. 3. Push the memory card to release it.
Getting Started 22 Note: You can protect the data in the memory card by sliding the lock lever on the s ide of the card. This prevents you from deleting or storing a dditional photos on the card. Turning Your Camera On and Off To turn on the camera, press the POWER button.
Getting Started 23 Making the Initial Settings When you turn on the camera the firs t time, you need to select your language and set th e date and time. 1. Select the language you wan t to use with the u d l r buttons, then press the OK button. The Date/Time screen is displayed.
Taking Photos 24 Chapter 2 Taking Photos Your camera has s everal modes fo r taki ng pictures. Turn the dial on top of the camera to choose the mode you want to use. ❏ Automatic mode Camera settings are automatically ad justed to give you the best shot.
Taking Photos 25 Taking Photos Using the LCD Screen You can take photos whil e viewing the s ubject on the LCD screen in either auto matic or manual modes. (For instructio ns on taking pictures using just the viewfinder, which saves power, see “Taking Photos Using the Viewfinder Only” on page 35.
Taking Photos 26 Optical zoom ❏ To zoom in on your subject, press the T ( telephoto) button. ❏ To zoom out, press the W (wide-angle) button. Digital zoom The digital zoom feature lets you move in even clos er to your subject. First, you need to use Setup Menu 1 to enable digital zoom .
Taking Photos 27 Controlling the Flash You can change the flash setting by pressing the r Flas h button. The flash mode changes each time you press the Flash button. Auto-flash (default setting ) The camera detec ts the bright ness automatical ly and sets o ff the flash if necessary.
Taking Photos 28 Flash range The flash range varies depending on the sensitivity settin g. For automatic shooting, the flash range is 1.6 to 12 feet (wide-angle) or 1.6 to 6.9 feet (telephoto). For information about ISO sensitivity, see “Setting Light Se nsitivity” on page 37.

Taking Photos 35 Taking Photos Using the Viewfinder Only To save battery power, you can tak e photos us ing the viewfinder only, without the LCD screen. 1. Turn the Mode dial to manual mode. 2. Press the DISP button twice to turn off the LCD screen. 3.

Note: In order to shoot at th e maximum speed of thr ee photos per second, you must use an SD memory card with a recording/transfer speed of 10MB/second.
Taking Photos 37 Setting Light Sensitivity You can use the camera’s high sensitivity settings to take pictures indoors or in low-light s ituations without a flash. You can also capture fast-moving subjects with higher sensitivity settings. The camera’s default setting is Auto, which is best for most picture taking.
Taking Photos 38 Setting Exposure Compensation You can adjust the exposure to help control how much light falls on the camera’s CCD (light sensor ). This influences the brightness of the entire image. Your camera normally adjusts the ex posure automa tically.
Taking Photos 39 Recording Videos You can record videos with sound using the video mo de. The length of the vi deo is limited only by the amount of storage available in your camera or memory card. 1. Turn the Mode dial to video mode. 2. Press the MENU button.
Taking Photos 40 Enabling the Quick View and Sound Memo Features The Quick View feature displa ys your picture for a few se conds after you take it. This lets you verify that you have captured the shot you wan t. With the Sound Me mo feature enabled, you can also record a message up to 30 seconds long for each picture.
Taking Photos 41 Adjusting Camera Settings In the SETUP mode, you can change settings such as Quick View, Sound Memo, and power save. Three Setup menus are available, two for general featur es, and one for adjusting camera “beep” soun ds. 1. Turn the Mode dial to SETUP mode.

You can als o play and record sound memos, view videos, delete photos, and copy photos from the camera to a memory card or to your computer.

Viewing and Mana ging Your Photos 49 Selecting Photos for Printing You can use the Digital Print Order Form at (DPOF) standard to select photos for printing. This format allows you to record information on the memor y card including which images to pr int and how many copies you want for each photo.

PRINT Image Framer (P.I.F .) lets you combin e your photos with fun frames to crea te original greeting cards and keepsakes. Frames are already st ored in your camera, and additional frames are available on the CD that came with the camera.
