4 Intr oduction The UTI3 1 2 Paging System is an expandable multi-zone paging and signaling system. The system pro vides the follo wing featur es and functions: V oice Channel • Expandable to 1 2 zo.
5 P anel Descriptions UTI3 1 2 Callouts 1 . Ground Start T erminal - Connection for PBX ground. Used only when the ground start interface is selected. 2.
Installation Mounting W all Mounting Mounting to a plyw ood backboard or studs: 1 . On each side remo ve the f our screws in the corners and use them to attach the mounting flanges so that the flanges are facing the r ear of the unit. 2. Hold the unit lev el against the surface to which it will be mounted.
T elephone Interface Wiring Connections & Setup T elephone System Connections The UTI3 1 2 connects to virtually any telephone system: PBX station lines and CO lines, PBX loop star t trunk ports, PBX ground start trunk ports, and page ports.
8 PBX Loop Start T runk P ort In this configuration, the unit supplies a 24V talk batter y and loop curr ent detection. When the unit detects a loop resistance betw een Tip and Ring, it activates. When the loop opens, the page ends. The unit follo ws the status of the trunk port.
9 T runk Disconnect The UTI3 1 2 includes a T runk Disconnect feature. The purpose of the T runk Disconnect featur e is to release the UTI3 1 2 from the trunk port in the ev ent a user does not hang up the phone properly after making a page.
10 Over ride Input The Over ride is a featur e that lets the caller take priority ov er all other paging functions and make a page. The center two conductors interface dir ectly to a Loop Star t T runk or a dedicated phone . When the trunk becomes active, the UTI3 1 2 goes into Ov erride mode.
11 Other Connections Night Ringer Contact In addition to 90V ring activation of the Night Ring featur e , a contact triggered f eature is also a vailable. The night ringer by default sounds a simulated ring tone, but can be programmed to sound a chime tone to the night ring zone gr oup (same as 90V activation).
12 ZX3 Module Connections ZX3 Module P aging Output Connections There ar e three zone paging outputs on the ZX3 module. The paging outputs are intended to connect to self-amplif ied speak ers, but ar e also compatible with amplifier inputs as w ell.
13 Contr ols P aging Le v el The ZX3 module has controls f or adjusting the audio level of each zone independently . These ser ve as master le vel controls that allo w for o verall zone control. Setting the initial volume to half is a g ood star ting point.
14 F eatur es & Operation Zones The UTI3 1 2 offers up to tw elve zones of paging. These zones are number ed 0 1 through 1 2 by default and do not requir e any pr ogramming, though they ma y be renumber ed using the Flexible Dialing feature. T o page to a z one: 1 .
15 Auto Select Zone Gr oup Auto Select pro vides paging to a programmed zone gr oup when the unit is accessed without ha ving to enter any DTMF k eys.This feature is useful when v oice paging is alwa ys to all zones, but only certain zones are to r eceive tone trigger signals.
16 Code Call Zone Gr oup & T ones By default, the Code Call zone group is pr ogrammed to include all zones. The Code Calling featur e gives the caller the ability to trigger a series of chime tones to a zone group . By default, Code Call is disabled.
17 Dialing Time-out Dialing Time-out can be enabled or disabled and by default is enabled. When enabled, the dialing time-out star ts as soon as the unit becomes active. The dialing time-out lasts 1 5 seconds and is reset with ev er y DTMF tone until the string is complete.
18 System Pr o gramming System programming lets y ou set cer tain UTI3 1 2 options and tone featur es using the DTMF k eys of a telephone. All programming is accomplished thr ough the Override jack on the UTI3 1 2. T o program the UTI3 1 2 system, follow these instructions: 1 .
19 T one Zone Groups In addition to paging zone gr oups, there ar e five additional zone gr oups, each with an associated tonal function.These are Ov erride zone group , Night Ring zone group , T one T rigger 1 zone group , T one T rigger 2 zone group , and Code Call zone group .
20 AUX Rela y Contact The UTI3 1 2 allows the installer to pr ogram a number of different parameters to contr ol the way in which the UTI3 1 2 AUX r elay contact activates.
21 Below ar e some illustrative examples: Example 1 : Emergency T one/Emergency Announcement Bypass The T one T rigger 1 and Override inputs are used to pr ovide emerg enc y tones and live emergency announcements and when this happens any local attenuator s are to be bypassed to ensure that emerg enc y announcements can be heard.
22 Flexible Dialing Flexible Dialing permits the user to custom configur e the digit length and the access codes for zones and paging zone groups. The digit length for Flexible Dialing can be set to 2, 3, 4 or 5 digits.
