2 I NTRODUCTION Intr oduction D VD Recorder D VD (Digital V ersatile Disc) is the new storage medium that combines the conv enience of the Compact Disc with the latest advanced digital video technology . D VD Video uses state-of-the-ar t MPEG2 data compression technology to register an entire mo vie on a single 5-inch disc.
I NSTALLATION 3 English Installation Connections - back of y our D VD Recorder - Please ref er to your TV , VCR, Stereo and an y other User Manual(s) as necessary to make the optimal connections. - Do not connect the pow er cords until all other connections are made.
4 I NSTALLATION S-Video (Y/C) connection If your TV is not equipped with COMPONENT VIDEO inputs, connect the D VD Recorder with the S-Video (Y/C) jacks. ● Connect the S-Video (Y/C) OUT jack to the corr esponding IN jacks on the TV , using the S-Video cable supplied (3) as shown in the dra wing.
I NSTALLATION 5 English If you cannot connect y our D VD Recorder to an A/V receiv er with a Multi-channel decoder , choose one of the following alternativ es. Connecting to a receiver equipped with two channel digital stereo (PCM) ● Connect one of the Recorder’ s DIGIT AL AUDIO OUT jacks to the corr esponding IN jack on your receiv er .
6 I NSTALLATION Step 5: Connections - Fr ont of y our D VD Recorder (optional) Video camera connection ● If you ha ve a D V or Digital 8 video camera, connect the i-link D V input jack on the Recorder (1) to the corr esponding output jack on the video camera using the i-link cable of your video camera.
I NSTALLATION 7 English First time setup: Initial setup After switching on the D VD Recorder for the v er y first time, the ‘Initial setup screen’ will appear . In initial setup, you ma y ha v e to set your pr eferences for some of the Recorder featur es.
8 I NSTALLATION Automatic TV Channel Search Mak e sure the antenna is connected to the D VD Recor der . See ‘Connecting to the antenna. ’ Y our D VD Recorder will search f or all TV channels that are a vailable in your ar ea. It stores channels in the or der in which they ar e found.

K eep your D VD Recorder connected to the pow er outlet at all times to ensure pr ogrammed recor dings can be made.

16 O PERATION Status box The status box displa ys the current status of the Recor der and information about the curr ent disc , including disc type, total pla ying time , and elapsed pla ying time . Set status Box to ‘On, ’ if you want to see f ollowing icons when y ou access a featur e.
O PERATION 17 English Timer info bo x The timer info box a ppears on the TV screen with the Index Picture Scr een, it displays the cur rent status of the timer recor dings. When a timer is set, it shows a timer indication and the start time or date of the first recording.
18 O PERATION Index Pictur e Screen The Index Picture Scr een displays an o verview of the titles recor ded on the disc. It appears automatically when pla yback or recording is stopped and a D VD+R W / D VD+R is in the Recorder . (The D VD+R W / D VD+R must ha ve recor ded content.
O PERATION 19 English User pr efer ences Setting user prefer ences Y ou can set your user pref er ences for some of the Recorder featur es. (See ‘Operation - User prefer ence menu operation’) The following items can be ada pted: Picture settings TV Shape With TV Shape y ou can adjust the image fr om your D VD Recorder to fit y our TV screen.
20 O PERATION Analog output Select Stereo , Surround or 3D Sound. Factor y setting is Stereo . Surr ound : Select this setting when using equipment with a Dolby Surr ound Pro Logic decoder . In this setting the 5.1 audio channels (Dolby Digital, MPEG-2) are do wnmix ed to a Dolby Surr ound-compatible 2-channel output.
O PERATION 21 English Lo w P ow er Standby If Low P ow er Standby is ‘On, ’ the Recorder will consume minimum pow er in standby mode . It is recommended to set the Low pow er standby setting to “On. ” Standby pow er consumption is 3 W when the setting is “On” and 6 W when the setting is “Off.
22 O PERATION Installation Update/Re-install TV channel After initial installation is complete, it is possible to perform the installation pr ocedur e again. If, for example, your cable compan y adds TV channels, you ma y wish to update the channel screen.
O PERATION 23 English 6 Select the time zone if the D VD Recorder is tuned to the PBS channel of a differ ent time zone than yours. 7 Confirm each entr y with ENTER/OK . 8 To end, press SY STEM MENU repeatedly to remo ve the men us. ➤ The time and date will be set by the specified channel the next time you s witch to Standby pow er mode.
24 R ECORDING Recor ding Befor e you start recor ding Recordings on a D VD+R W disc are called ‘titles. ’ Every title consists of one or more cha pters. For mor e information about ho w to go to other titles or chapters see ‘Playback - General f eatur es.
R ECORDING 25 English Recording 1 Press / to open the disc tra y . 2 Insert a recordable D VD+R W or D VD+R disc. 3 Press / to close the disc tra y . 4 Select the position from which y ou want to record using the / . 5 Press MONIT OR to see TV channels through the D VD Recorder .
26 R ECORDING Recording with automatic switch-off (O TR One-T ouch Recording) 1 Insert a recordable D VD+R W or D VD+R disc. 2 Normally , the D VD Recorder displa ys the contents of the disc on the screen to see the cur rentl y selected TV channel.
R ECORDING 27 English 4 Use the 0-9 buttons to enter the entire PlusCode number (up to eight digits) as printed in y our TV guide. If you mak e a mistak e, press CLEAR . 5 Confirm with ENTER/OK . 6 If the VCR Plus+ channel has not been set, the D VD Recorder will ask y ou to enter the channel number .
28 R ECORDING 16 If you mak e a mistake, go back with t (left cursor) and re-enter the inf ormation. 17 Confirm with ENTER/OK . ➤ When all information is corr ect, the data is stored in a timer block. 18 To end, press TIMER . 19 Mak e sure y ou inser ted a disc without write pr otec- tion.
R ECORDING 29 English Clearing a timer block 1 Press TIMER on the r emote contr ol. 2 Select ‘Timer list’ with w / v (down/up cursor). 3 Press u (right cursor). 4 Select the Timer Recording y ou want to clear with w / v (down/up cursor). The selected Timer Recording will be highlighted in blue.
30 P LAYBACK Pla yback Pla ying a D VD+R W/+R disc 1 Insert a D VD+R W or a D VD+R disc. ➤ If the inserted disc is erase-protected, playback starts automatically . Otherwise , the Index Picture Screen a ppears. 2 Press w / v (do wn/up cursor) to select the Title you want to pla y .

36 P LAYBACK Pla ying an Audio CD 1 Insert the disc . ➤ After loading the disc, playback starts automatically . ➤ If the TV is on, the Audio CD screen a ppears. ➤ During pla y , the curr ent track number and its elapsed pla ying time will show on the TV screen and on the Recorder displa y .
A CCESS CONTROL 37 English Access contr ol Child Lock (D VD and VCD) When activating Child Lock, only discs that ar e authorized can be pla yed without entering a code. The Recorder memory maintains a list of 50 authorized (‘Child safe’) disc titles.
38 A CCESS CONTROL Authorizing discs when Child Lock is activated 1 Insert the disc . ➤ The ‘Access Contr ol box’ will appear . Y ou will be ask ed to enter your code f or ‘Play once’ or ‘Pla y alwa ys. ’ 2 Press w / v (do wn/up cursor) to choose ‘Play once’ or ‘Pla y alwa ys.
A CCESS CONTROL 39 English Rating 0 (displayed as ‘– –’): Parental Contr ol is not active. The disc will play in full. Ratings 1 to 8 (1 = childsafe - 8 = adults only): The disc contains scenes not suitable for childr en. If you set a rating for the Recorder , all scenes with the same rating or low er will pla y .

In the Index Picture Screen, select the requir ed title with w / v (down/up cursor).
M ANAGING DISC CONTENT (DVD+RW/+R ONLY ) 41 English Disc Settings Y ou can change disc settings for a D VD+R W/+R from the Disc Information Scr een. 1 When in the Index Picture Scr een, press or press and hold for about two seconds. ➤ This selects the first title on the D VD+R W .
42 M ANAGING DISC CONTENT (DVD+RW/+R ONLY ) Mak e edits D VD-compatible If titles ha v e been edited (See ‘Editing’), the edits will pla y on your D VD Recorder . How ev er a D VD pla yer ma y show the original versions instead of the edits. Y ou can prepar e your discs so that a D VD pla yer will also pla y the edited version.
M ANAGING DISC CONTENT (DVD+RW/+R ONLY ) 43 English Inser ting a chapter mark er To insert a chapter marker on the cur rent position of the title that is pla ying: Perf orm steps 1 and 2 to call up the Edit menu. 3 Select ‘Insert chapter marker . ’ 4 Press ENTER/OK on the r emote control to insert a mark er .
44 M ANAGING DISC CONTENT (DVD+RW/+R ONLY ) 6 Press ENTER/OK . ‘This will divide this title into tw o separate titles. Press OK to confirm’ will a ppear . ➤ ‘Dividing title’ is shown until the action is completed. 7 Press ENTER/OK again. The Index Picture Scr een will show two titles instead of one.
T ROUBLESHOOTING 45 English Tr oubleshooting If it appears that the D VD Recorder is faulty , first consult this checklist. It ma y be that something has been ov erlooked. Under no circumstances attempt to r epair the system yourself; this will invalidate the warranty .
46 T ROUBLESHOOTING The disc can not be erased because the Index Pictur e Scr een does not appear Open the tra y while leaving the disc in. Press and hold CLEAR for about fiv e seconds until the tra y closes. The disc is technically not y et erased but y ou can start a new recor ding like on a blank disc.
