Gett ing St arte d 2.2 Setting Up Your Machine Unpacking 1 Remo ve the machine and al l accessories from the packing carton. Gett ing St arte d 2.3 2 2 Remo ve the packing ta pe from the front, back, a nd sides of the machine. 3 Gently pull the scan lock label until it comes awa y from the machine. Thi s will pull the sc anner locking switch into t he FORWARD (Unlocked) position automatically .
Gett ing St arte d 2.4 Selecting a Lo cation Select a level , stab le place w ith ad equate s pace for a ir circulation. Allow extra space for opening door s and trays. The area should be w ell-ventilated and away f rom direc t sunlig ht or sources of heat, cold, and humidity .
Gett ing St arte d 2.5 2 Installing the Toner Cartridge 1 Open the front door . 2 Remo ve the starter toner cartridge from its bag. Gently shak e t he c art rid ge 5 o r 6 tim es to di str ibu te th e to ner . Thoroughly shaking the ca rtridge will assure maximum copies per cartr idge.
Gett ing St arte d 2.6 3 Hold the toner cartridge by the handle. Slowly insert the cartridge into th e opening in the mac hine. T a bs on the sides of the cartridge and corr esponding grooves within the machine will guide the cartridge into the correct position until it locks into place completely .
Gett ing St arte d 2.7 2 Loading Pa per The paper tray can hold a maxim um of 250 sheets of 20 lb (75 g/ m 2 ) pl ain pape r . T o load a stack of Le tter-sized paper: 1 Pull open the paper tray and remov e it from the machine. N OTE : If yo u want to lo ad a d iffer ent s ized paper , you ne ed to adjust the paper guide s.

P aper overloadin g may cause paper jam s. 5 Insert and slide the pa per tray back into the machine. N OTE : Aft er you load pa per , you nee d to set up you r machin e for the paper t ype and size you lo aded.
Gett ing St arte d 2.9 2 Changing the Size of the Paper in the Paper Tray T o load longer sizes of paper , such as Legal-sized pa per , you need to adjust the paper guides to extend the paper tray . 1 After pressing and unlatching the guide lock, s lide the paper length guide out comple tely to extend the paper tray to its full length.
Gett ing St arte d 2.10 3 Squeeze the width guide, as shown and slide it to the stack of paper until it lightly touches the side of the stack. N OTES : • Do not push t he paper wid th guid e far eno ugh to cause the materials to warp. • If y ou do not adjust th e paper width gui de, it ma y cause paper jams.
Gett ing St arte d 2.11 2 Connecting Telephone Line Plug one end of the supplied telephone line cord into the LINE jack on the machine and the othe r end into the wall jack. If yo u wan t to u se you r ma chin e to r ece ive bo th faxes and voic e calls, you will need to connect a teleph one and/or answering machine to your machine.
Gett ing St arte d 2.12 Connecting a Printer Cable For Local Printing T o p rint from your computer in a local en vironment, you need to connect your machine to a computer with either a Universal Serial Bus (USB) cabl e or a parallel cable. N OTE : Y ou only ne ed to connec t one of the cab les me ntio ned above.
Gett ing St arte d 2.13 2 Using a Parallel Cab le N OTE : Conn ecting the machine to th e parall el port of the comput er requires a certif ied p arall el cable . Y ou need to buy an IEEE-1284 co mpliant parallel cable that is 3 m or less in l ength. 1 Make sure that both the machi ne and the computer ar e turned off .
Gett ing St arte d 2.14 For Network Printing (Wor kCentre P E120i on ly) Y ou can attach your machine to a network using an Ethernet cable (UTP cable with RJ.45 connector). The W orkCentre PE120 i has a built -in network interface card. 1 Make sure that both the machi ne and the computer ar e turned off .
Gett ing St arte d 2.15 2 2 Press the power switch to turn the machine on. “W arming Up Please W ait” app ears on the display indi cating that the machine is now on. T o view your display text in another language, see page 2.16 . C AUTIONS : • The fuser area i nside the rear door of your machine becomes very h ot w hen in use.
Gett ing St arte d 2.16 Setting Up the Machine System Changing the Display Language T o cha nge the language that displays on the control panel, follow these steps: 1 Pres s Menu until “Machine Setup” appears on the top line of the display . 2 When “L anguag e” appe ars on th e bottom line of the display , press Enter .

If the optional sec ond tray is installed, use the scroll button ( W or X ) to select the paper tray y ou want to use and press Enter .

Toll Save Mode Using the Toll Save button on the control panel, you can quickly set your machine to send the document(s) st ored in memory during a preset time slot, when the call charge is lower .

Gett ing St arte d 2.28 Installing Xerox Drivers Y ou must install the print er driver us ing the supplied X erox driver CD after you ha ve set up your machine and connected it to your computer . Xerox D river CD contains: • PCL Printer dr iver - Use this driver to take full adva ntage of your printe r's features.
Gett ing St arte d 2.29 2 Instal ling Xerox dr ivers in W indow s Sys tem R equ ir ement s Before you begin, ensure that your system meets the minimum requirements. Installing Xero x Drivers in Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000 using the USB port 1 Plug the USB cab le into the PE120 and connect to your Per sonal Computer (PC).
Gett ing St arte d 2.30 3 The "F ound New Hardw are Wizard" will display . Confirm that the radio button "Install the software automatically" is chosen. Click Next . 4 The Wizard will begin to install the scan driver for the PE120.
Gett ing St arte d 2.31 2 9 When the "Completing the Found New Hardware Wizard" screen displays click Fini sh . The PCL print driver for the PE120 is now loaded. 10 From within Micr osoft Windows click Start and t hen Settings and then Printers and Faxes .
Gett ing St arte d 2.32 3 When the language selection window appear s, select the appropriate l anguage and the n click Cont inue . 4 Choose the components you want to install and then click Continue . 5 Click Continue . 6 Click Fini sh . The driv er installation is now complete.

Gett ing St arte d 2.40 The Pri nter Tab Click the Printer tab to configure print sy stem settings. The Fi rmwa re Updat e Tab Click the Firmwa re Update tab to update the firmware of your machine. This feature should be used by an authorized technician.

Paper Hand ling 3.2 Selecting Pri nt Materials Y ou can pr int on a variety of print materi als, such as p lain paper , envelopes, labels, tr ansparencies, and etc.. Always use print materials that mee t the guidelines for use with this machine. See “Paper Specifications” on pa ge E.
Pape r Ha ndling 3.3 3 Guidelines f or Pape r and Special Ma terials When selecting or loading paper , envelopes, or other special material, keep these guidelines in mind: • Alwa ys use pap er and other materials that conform with the spe cifi ca tion s lis ted und er “Pape r Spe cif ica tio ns” o n pa ge E .

Pape r Ha ndling 3.5 3 The paper level indicator on the front of the paper tray shows the amount of paper cur rently left in the tray . When the tray is empty , the ind icator of the bar is co mpletely lowered. T o load pap er , p ull open the paper tray and l oad paper with the side to be printed on face dow n.
Paper Hand ling 3.6 In the By pass Tray The Bypass tray can hold several sizes and types of print material, such as transparenci es, postcards, note car ds, and envelopes.
Pape r Ha ndling 3.7 3 3 Load the print ma terial with the side t o be printed on facing up . F or envelopes, load them with the flap side dow n and with the stamp area on the top left side. N OTES : • If envelo pes jam while printin g, try red ucing the nu mber of envelopes in the Bypass tray .
Paper Hand ling 3.8 6 If you w ant the ma chine to stack the printed pa ges on the rear output slot, open the rear door to use the rear output slot. C AUTION : Make sure to open the rear output slot when yo u print on tr ansparencies . If not, they may tear whil e exiting t he machine.
Pape r Ha ndling 3.9 3 3 Squeeze the width guide and a djust it to the width of the print materi al without bendi ng it. 4 If you w ant the ma chine to stack the printed pa ges on the rear output slot, open the rear door to use the rear output slot. Paper Hand ling 3.10 Selecting an Output Location The machine has two output locations: the rear output slot (face up) and the front output tray (face down). T o use the front output tray , make sure that the rear door is closed. T o us e the rear output slot, open the rear door .

Printing Task s 4.2 Printing a D ocument in Windows The following procedure describes th e general steps required for printing from various Windows ap plications. The exact st eps for printing a doc ument may vary depending on the ap plication pro gr am yo u ar e usi ng.
Printing Task s 4.3 4 Canceling a Pri nt Job There are two ways to cancel a print job: T o sto p a print job from the control panel: Press the Stop/Clear button. Y our machine finishes printing the page that is moving through t he machine and deletes the rest of the p rint job.
Printing Task s 4.4 Printer Settings Y ou can use the Xerox WC PE120 Series printer properties window , which al lows you t o access all of th e printer options you need when using your machine. When the printer properties are displayed, you can review an d change whatev er settings are needed for your print job.
Printing Task s 4.5 4 Layout tab The Layout tab provides options to ad just how the docume nt appears on the pr inted page. The More Layout Op tions includes Multiple Pages pe r Side , Poster , Fit to Page , and Reduce/Enlar ge . See page 4.2 for more information on accessing printer pr operties.

If you hav e an Internet browser , you can connect to t he Internet by c licking on anywhere on the screen. See page 4 .2 for more informatio n about accessing printer proper ties.

Printing Posters Y ou can print a single-pa ge document onto 4, 9, or 16 sheets of paper , for the purpose of pasting the sheets together to form one poster-sized document.
