5 .7 < Loading originals an d print media> In the multi-purpose tray The multi -purpos e tray ca n hold sp ecial siz es and ty pes of pri nt materi al, such as trans parenc ies, postc ards, note card s, and envelope s. It is useful for single page printing o n letterhea d or colore d paper .

Printing from the multi-purpose tray to the rear cover provides a straight paper p ath. Usi ng the rea r cover migh t improve the output quality with special print med ia.

6 .2 < Copy ing> Reduced or enlarged copy By using the Reduce/ Enlarge button, you can reduce or en large the size of a copied image from 25% to 400% when yo u copy origi nal docum ents from the s canner glass , or from 25% to 100% fro m the ADF .
6 .3 < Copy ing> ID card copying Y our mac hine can print 2-si ded or iginals on o ne sheet of A4-, Letter -, Legal-, Foli o-, Executive -, B5-, A5-, or A6-s ized pap er .
6 .4 < Copy ing> Clone copying Erasing background i mages Y ou can se t the mac hine to pri nt an image without its back ground. Th is copy feat ure removes the back ground color and ca n be helpful when copying an origina l cont aining colo r in the ba ckground , such as a newsp aper or a catalo g.

9 .4 < Faxing> 7 Press Stop/ Clear t o return to S tandby mod e. Receiving autom atically in Fax mo de Y our machi ne is preset to Fax mode at th e factory . When you rece ive a fax, the m achine a nswers the call on a specifi ed numbe r of rings a nd automatic ally receiv es the fa x.

10 .2 < Fax setup> Changing the default docum ent settings The fax op tions, in cluding resolutio n and darkne ss, can be set to the most frequently used mo des. When yo u send a fax, the de fault sett ings are used if th ey are not changed by using the correspo nding butt on and menu.

13 .4 < Maintenan ce> Expect ed cartridge l ife The life o f the print c artridge d epends on th e amount of toner tha t print jobs requ ire. When p rinting tex t at ISO 1975 2 5% cove rage, a new print cartridge l asts an averag e of either 8,000 or 4,000 p ages.
13 .5 < Maintenan ce> Note Y ou ca n set the mac hine to d isregard the T one r Empt y messag e and to c ontinue p rinting. See page 13.5. 1 Open the front cover . 2 Pull the p rint cartrid ge out. 3 Remove th e new print cartridge f rom its bag.

T ry printing with a dif ferent batch of paper . Do not open pac kages of p aper unti l necessary so that t he pape r does no t absorb to o much moistu re.
14 .15 < Troubleshoot ing> Hori zontal stri pes If hor izonta lly alig ned blac k streaks or smears appear: • The prin t cartridge ma y be ins talled imprope rly . Remove th e cartridge and reins ert it. • The print c artridge m ay be defec tive.
