2 INSERTING THE BATTERY AND SIM C ARD If your Vertu phone was pur chased at a Ver tu store, the battery and SIM card sho uld have been installed already. Otherwise, f ollow the procedure below to install your battery and SIM card. The SIM card and its cont acts are easily damaged.

4 SWITCHING ON YOUR V ERTU PHONE If your battery requ ires charging, a Batt ery low message is displayed when you fir st switch on your Vertu phone. Refer to “ Charging the ba ttery” on page 67 fo r mo re i nfor mat ion.
5 To select your loca l time zone: To set th e date: You can enable your Vertu phone to automatically adjust your date an d time settings. DISPLAY ICONS AND INDICATORS The display sho ws the current sta tus of your Ver tu phone.
6 Active line icons Active line icons only appear if your SI M ca rd has two lines enabled. F or more informati on contact your service provider . Active profile icons One of the following active pr ofile icons appea rs on the top-left of t he display to indi cate the currently active profile.
7 T ext inpu t icons One or more of the followin g icons may appear when you are keying in text , for example when writing a text mess age or adding a di rectory entry . CONTACTS ICONS Type icon s indicate th e type of n umber or text item associated wi th a directory entr y.
8 MEN U NA VIG AT ION Your Vertu phone offers an ext ensive range of functions that are accessed t hrough a series of menus. The most commonly used features are assigned to the shortcuts m enu to enable rapid access to the funct ion.

10 CALLIN G Y OUR VOICE MAILB OX Voicemail is a network servi ce for receiving voice messages that may be offered by your service provider. To use the VOICEMAIL key to listen t o your voice messages, the voice mailbox number must be stored in your Vertu ph one.
11 CONFERENC E CALL S The conference cal l function is a Network Servi ce that can connect up to six ca lls, allowing each person to part icipate in a singl e conversation.
12 LOCK ING TH E K EYP AD Receiving a call Your Vertu phone keypad lock is automati cally suspended when you recei ve an incoming call The keypad revert s to locked when you end the cal l. UNLOCKING THE K EYPAD > From t he sta nd-by display, press Menu followed by t he key within t wo seconds.

14 BASIC TEXT INPUT T o key in a c haracter , press a NUMBER key once or several times, depending on whic h cha racter you require. T he table below lists the characters available on eac h NUM BER key and the order they appear when you press the NUMBER key multiple times.

16 02 SECURITY The security feature s on your Vertu phone help prevent unauthorised use o f your phone and SIM card. SECURITY F EATURES You can activate and change some securit y features yourself – these a re “User codes”.
17 CALL BARRING Call barring i s a network servi ce that allows you to restrict the in coming and outgoi ng calls that you make and r eceive. Co ntact your service provider for more infor mation about using this funct ion.

21 CHANGING TH E PIN2 CODE Your PIN c ode is use d to pro tect the advanced user function s of your SIM card such as fixed dialling lists. Your PIN2 cod e must not be th e same as your PIN code. T o change your PI N2 code: > From the s t and-by dis play , press M enu .
22 03 MESSAGES Your Vertu phone provi des extensive messaging functionality to al low you to send and receive messages of many types: > T ex t messages, > Multim edia messa ges, > E-mail messages, > V oice messages. To send and recei ve messages you w ill need to be subscribed to a message network service .
23 WRITING AND SEND ING TEXT ME SSAGES The Cre ate mess age option allows you t o write and send text messages. Refer “T ext Entry” on page 13 for more information about entering text using your ph one keypad. To write a new message: > From the s t and-by dis play , press M enu .
24 Reply to reply to the sen der of the message. Y ou can choose to start your reply with Empt y screen for a blank me ss age, O rigina l text to repeat the o riginal message, or one of the many other reply response temp lates. Use de tail to use any numbers, e-mail addresses or W eb addresses from the current message .
25 DISTRIBUTI ON LISTS If you frequentl y send messages t o a f ixed group o f recipient s, you can define a distr ibution list to simplify the pr ocess. When you send a message to a distr ibution list the phone automaticall y sends the message separa tely to each recipien t in the list.
26 MES SAG E SE T T INGS Mess age Profiles When you write or reply to a text message, your Vertu phone uses a sending pro file that defines how the phone will handle the message send ing interaction with your service provider.
27 MULTIMEDIA MESSAGES (MMS) A multimedia message can con tain text, sound, video a nd pictur es. Your p hone suppo rts multimedi a messages (MMS) that are up to 100 kB. If the maximum size is exceeded, the phone may not be able to rece ive the message.

35 04 CALL REGISTER The call regist er feature allows you to view information a bout calls that you have missed, received and made. You can also view inf ormation about the duratio n and data transfer of your GPRS data tran sfer and quantit y of messages sent and received.

37 05 PROFILES AND SETTINGS You can use the profiles and sett ings menus to change your personal shortcuts, ti me and date settings, call settings, ph one settings, displa y settings, tone settings, enhancement sett ings, security sett ings, and to rest ore factory settings.
38 Vibrating alert to turn t he vibrating al ert on or off. Message a lert to ne to select the t one for received messages. Keypa d tones to set the volume of your keypad tones (off=silent, 1=low , 3=high). W arning tones to set whether your V ertu phone uses an audible alert for giving you warnings, for example when the battery is low .
39 Date sep arator to cha nge the separator used to display the da te. Highlight your new date separator then press Sele ct . Automatic update of date and time This is a network servi ce. You can set your Vertu phone to update th e date and time from t he network when you turn the phone on.
40 Contact your service pro vider for more info rmation about supported dat a connections and tar iffs. When you have selected GPRS as a data bearer, the phone automatically uses EDG E instead of GPRS if this is available in the network. 45 06 CONT ACTS Your Vertu ph one Contacts directo ry has potenti al capacity for up to 1, 000 entries. CONTACTS MEMORY Contact names and numbers ca n be stored in the phone memory or on the SIM card, or both, but only one memory can be used at a time.
46 COPYIN G OPT IONS The following copyi ng options are disp layed: COPYING IN DIVIDUAL NUMBERS You can also copy individ ual directory numbers between the phone memory and SIM card memory directly from the list of names in your directo ry. 47 ACCESSING CONTACTS There are several ways to access a contact, giving you flexibilit y to use your Vertu phone in the way that su its you b est. DELETING CONTACTS To delete a conta ct: > From the stand-by displ ay, press a SCROLL key. > If the co ntact name is not visi ble, press the fir st lette r of the contact name.
48 A message confirms that the detail s have been saved to the phone memory. To add a text item to a contact: > From the stand- by display, press a SCRO LL key. > If the contact na me is not visible, press the first letter of the conta ct name. The first name starting with tha t letter is highlight ed.

57 APPLICATIONS Your phone supports Java applicati ons. You will find som e Java applicati ons pre-insta lled on your phone. Als o, you can manage and download new applicat ions from your service pr ovider. Running some applications may con sume the battery f aster.

67 CHARGE R The charger rechar ges your Vertu phone batter y quickly and sa fely by means of a powered AC outlet. The charger supp lied with your Vertu phone sho uld be approp riate for yo ur region . Howeve r, you should always check that electr ical ratin g of the AC outlet is appr opriate for the charger before you atte mp t to pl ug it in.
68 BA T TER Y Your Vertu phone is powered by a rechargeable battery. The full pe rformance of a new battery is achieved only after tw o or three complete charge and discharge cycles . The battery c an be charged and discharged hundr eds of times but it wil l eventually wear out.
69 Inserting the battery Refer to “Inserting the Battery ” on page 3 for information o n inserting the battery co rrectly. V EH ICL E CHA RGER The vehicle charger r echarges your Vertu phone batter y quickly and safely from a sta ndard 12 or 24 volt (DC) vehicle ci garette lighter outlet.
