E-5 All channels except Channel 9 may be used for normal communic ation. The FC C reser ves Channel 9 for emergencies involving the immediate safety of individuals or protection of proper ty . Use Channel 9 to render assistance to a motorist. This is an FC C rule and applies to all CB radio operators.

E-9 As an alternativ e, the power cor d may be connected to an available terminal on the fuse block or to a point in the wiring harness. Ho wever , caution must be taken to prev ent a shor t circuit. If in doubt, contact your vehicle dealer f or information.
E-10 USING YOUR BEARCAT 980 SSB CB M O D E Be sure that the power source , a ntenna, and microphone are properly connected before proceeding. B AS I C S ET T I NG S 1. T urn unit on. Set volume to a comf or table level. 2. Select channel. 3. Set noise limitations as desired ( ANL or NB or both).
E-11 Selec tor clockwise to move t o the nex t channel or counter- clockwise to move to the pr evious channel. The radio continues scanning in the selected direction. • T o change to Memor y Channel Scan mode, press MEM/SCAN while in All Channel Scan mode (see page 10).

E-17 MAINTENANCE The Bearcat 980 SSB is desig ned to give you y ears of trouble -free ser vice. There ar e no user-ser viceable par ts inside. It requires no maint enance exc ept replacing the inline fuse in the fuse holder of the DC power cor d. T o replace a blown fuse: 1.
