Quick Start Installation If your pr oduct shipped with a Quick Start storage card, just follow these simple steps to get started with CoPilot Live. Otherwise skip to the Install From CD section below . (1) Ensure y our Pock et PC is fully charged and po wer ed on .
2. Choose where you w ould like data stor ed on the Pock et PC. CoPilot will scan your computer to detect which options ar e a vailable. If you choose an option other than the device memory , click the pick list that appears and select a storage card name or the drive letter of y our storage card r eader .
- viii - Number , and E-mail Address where indicated and click Submit . Y our Activation Code will immediately be e-mailed to you. 4. On your P ocket PC, type in your Activation Code where indicated and tap Activate . CoPilot will launch upon activation.
- ix - - x - 10. Start driving Product Licensing & Updates Start driving! T o toggle between the Driver Safety and the Passeng er screens, tap the Driver/P asseng er button. The Dr iver Safety screen only shows ma ps as you appr oach y our next turn or when you’ re tra v eling slower than 10 m.

Getting Star ted - Har dw are Both your desktop/laptop and y our Pock et PC must be turned on. The cradle/cable for your mobile de vice must be connected to your desktop/la ptop computer through either the USB or Serial por t.
Uninstalling a Pr e vious V ersion If you ha ve been using an earlier v ersion of P ocket CoPilot it will be necessary for you to uninstall the a pplication and its data before installing CoPilot Liv e. NO TE: When uninstalling CoPilot, your GPS receiver cannot be attached.

- 10 - Data Do wnload to Y our P ock et PC T o use CoPilot Live on y our Pock et PC, you first need to download ma p data from y our desktop or laptop computer to your P ock et device. Y ou select the data to download from one or mor e regions (“data ar eas”) that you specify in the CoPilot Live application on y our desktop .
Data Do wnload Step 2 : Choose a Data Selection Method After you specify a location wher e the data will be stored, you will be prompted to select a region on the map to do wnload. CoPilot allows you to do wnload data using one of the three methods described below .
Data Do wnload Step 3 : Select Y our Data Use any of the thr ee methods cover ed on the following pages ( City Radius , Map Area , or Tr i p ) to select one or more r egions and then download your data.
Map Area - 15 - - 16 - Note: CoPilot’ s available memory calculations subtract 15 MB from the a vailable memory on your storage card (if you ar e using one) to account for support files. 4. Name the selection . Click Next . 2. Enter a City , Country or P ostal Code (address is optional) within the area that you w ould like to do wnload.
Trip - 17 - - 18 - 3. If you choose the Points of Interest tab, enter a City , Country or P ostal Code and click the Find button. Y ou can specify search parameters by selecting a POI Category and/or T ype (this will speed up the search). 3a. Highlight a selection , click Select , then Add Stop .
Data Do wnload Step 4: Do wnload the Da ta When you’ re r eady to execute a do wnload, the Wizard will displa y a list of Available Ar ea(s) for download on the left side of the window . T o designate an area to include in the download, click on it and then click on the right arro w button to move it to the Data Included in This Download list.
Impor ting Custom Places CoPilot Live’ s Custom Place Impor t Wizard enables you to import addresses fr om your Outlook Contacts database, an Excel file , or text file . (If you are using another type of database or contact manager , you can export your contacts/ locations to an Excel or text file before importing them into CoPilot Live.
Softw ar e Activ ation and Star tup NO TE: CoPilot Liv e won’ t open on y our Pock et PC unless map data has been previousl y downloaded fr om the CoPilot desktop application. T o launch CoPilot Live, first turn on your Pock et PC and make sur e the GPS receiv er is attached.
Map Region Selection If you pur chased CoPilot with a single region license, you will be asked to select a region the first time y ou launch the software on y our Pock et PC.
Addr ess Entr y NO TE: Ther e is no need to enter a starting point. CoPilot Live uses GPS positioning to determine your location automatically . Using Y our Pock et PC for Guidance In CoPilot Live's Guidance Mode you will receive turn-b y-turn route guidance information as you tra v el.
- 29 - Once you enter a destination, CoPilot will displa y the Edit T rip screen . At this point you can enter additional stops using the tool bar or begin receiving guidance to the destination you enter ed by tapping the View Route button (see below).
Entering a W ork Addr ess Finding Points of Inter est - 31 - T ap the W ork button . The first time you use this button, you’ll be prompted to enter your W ork Address . Enter the City or P ostal Code, Address , and (optionally) Name of your workplace.
3. Guidance - 34 - Changing V ie ws: Map/Itiner ar y/Guidance T oggle NO TE: It is not safe to attempt to alter settings on your P ocket PC while you ar e driving. Either have a passeng er make chang es, or pull o ver to a safe ar ea. 1. Map 2. Itinerary In Guidance Mode y ou will receiv e turn-by-turn driving instructions.
T rip Editing and W a ypoints T o get to the Edit T r ip screen from the Guidance scr eens at any time, tap the screen an ywhere except on the map to displa y the tool bar , then tap the Edit Tr i p button. From here y ou can edit the current trip or ad d additional stops.
Detour Fea tur e CoPilot Live’ s Detour Feature allo ws you to pr eview an alternate r oute befor e deciding whether or not to take it. Perfect f or situations in which traffic has suddenly slow ed ahead of you, the Detour Feature will generate an alternate route and tell y ou exactly how much distance the ne w route will ad d to your trip.
- 40 - Contact Integr ation CoPilot Live allows y ou to link directl y to Pock et Outlook to retrie ve addr ess information. With just a couple of quick taps of the stylus, you can enter a con- tact’ s home and/or work address as y our destination. - 39 - 1.
POI Aler t Options - 41 - T ap the Fa v orites T ab to open the list of your F avorite Addresses . Y ou can change the assignment of your Wo r k or Home address as well as Edit and Delete One or Delete All addresses.
The GPS Menu Status Receiving signals-ON Receiving signals-OFF T o view y our GPS satellite activity at any time, select Status from the GPS menu. Here y ou will receiv e information on Speed , Lat/ Long position, Heading , and Time and Date . T ap on the Sats tab for more GPS satellite information.
Save Current Location Y ou can use the GPS menu to sa ve y our current location as a fa v orite place. Y ou must be receiving GPS data to do this. T ap the GPS menu and then select Save Current Location. A prompt will ask y ou to assign a location name to your curr ent latitude/ longitude position.
Guidance (Driver Safety Screen) Map will only be shown as y ou appr oach turn. No GPS Signal If toolbar is not visible tap anywher e on the screen. Next turn instruction. Next turn arro w and distance to next turn. Customizable display , tap to cycle between current r oad, crossroad, speed, curr ent time, elevation, and nearest town.
Address Input Screen Points of Interest Search T ap the Contacts button to select an address fr om P ocket Outlook. Enter a City/P ostal Code for y our destination by typing it in using the ke yboard at the bottom of the scr een. Previousl y entered cities can be chosen from the dr op-down list.
T rip Planning on Y our Desktop On the following pages y ou will find brief descriptions of the trip planning capabilities of the CoPilot Live desktop a pplication. Y ou can use CoPilot's desktop functions to map out routes and print ma ps and driving directions befor e getting on the road.

17. Landmark Reporting 18. Help Menu Refer ence: Desktop T rip Planning What's What on Your Desktop CoPilot Live on y our desktop includes many options, special features and shortcuts. The following is a guide to the main screens y ou will see as you use your desktop/laptop computer f or trip planning.
Trip Planner Window (Points of Interest) Trip Planner Window (Favorites) - 61 - Select Ta b for Points of Inter est. Enter a city or postal code in which you w ould like to search, a radius within which to search, choose a category and type from the dr op-down menu, and click the binoculars to search.
Routing Options Trip Summary Click the Options button in the T rip Planner window to access CoPilot routing options. Auto Quickest is the default setting, and provides the quick est r outing for automobiles based on practical considerations such as road quality , terrain, and urban/ rural classifications.
CoPilot Liv e Communications CoPilot Live now allo ws you to maintain tw o-wa y communication with drivers who are using CoPilot and to actually see wher e they ar e currentl y located using your home or office PC. Using this CoPilot Live functionality r equires the follo wing: 1) CoPilot Live open on y our home or office PC.
Send/Receive Messages - Desktop T o send a message to the driver , click the Send Message button on the toolbar . - 68 - Click your cursor in the space just below the Standar d Response Buttons , and begin typing.
Receive/Respond To Messages - Pocket PC Send Trip Itinerary Updates - Desktop - 69 - - 70 - When you ar e the driver and a message is sent to y ou, CoPilot Live displa ys it on top of all other windows. If you hav e CoPilot Live's text-to-speech engine installed, when a message is received you will hear the text of the message spoken out loud.
When the driver r esponds to your trip intinerary update, the resonse is displa yed in the Message Center : Receive Trip Itinerary Updates - Pocket PC - 71 - - 72 - Send T rip and Driver’ s Response When you ar e the driver and a T rip Itinerar y Update is sent to you, CoPilot Live displa ys it on top of all other windows.
