1 Chapter 1 Introduction The SBP -2000 digital receiv er is fully compliant wit h the inter - national Digital V ideo Broadcasting (D VB) standard, and thus is able to receiv e digital broadcasts of that standard. For its operation y ou need an antenna, which mus t be installed ap- propriately .

12 Setup 2.4.1 Connecting to the antenna Whatev er sort of connection you ha ve betw een the digital receiver and the television, you need to connect t he digital receiver to the antenna so that it can receive digital television broadcasts. Connect t he antenna cable to the LNB IN con- nector .
2.4 Connecting up y our digital receiv er 13 T o use t he HDMI output If you ha v e a high definition television set, y ou should use an HDMI cable for best re- sults. Plug one end of the cable into t he HDMI socket on the digital receiv er , and plug t he other end into the matching socket on y our television.
14 Setup NOTE When connecting with t he Component video cable, remem- ber to also plug in the additional white and red audio cables from the digital receiver to the back of y our tele vision. T o use t he Com posite video output Y ou need to obtain a Composite video cable (R CA cable) to use the Com posite video out- put.
2.5 Switching on for the first time 15 T o enjoy Dolb y Digital audio, y our television or audio-video receiver must be able to de- code Dolby Digital audio, and y ou need to obtain an S/PDIF cable.

18 Ser vice Search 3.1.1 Configuring LNB settings There are tw o large frequency bands for satellite broadcasts. One is C band which ranges appro ximately from 4 to 6 GHz.

20 Ser vice Search 3.1.2 Configuring DiSEqC 1.2 settings Y our motorized antenna will tur n to ward your desired satel- lites horizontally by DiSEqC 1.2. When y ou switch to a ser vice, if it is not provided b y t he current satellite, it will take longer time than usual because t he antenna has to tur n t o its position.
3.1 Searching for broadcasting services 21 ponder and choose the best one at the T ransponder (or F requency ) option. It will be helpful to your fine tuning. 5. Finall y set the Motor Control option to Store to sav e the tuned position when the receiving quality is best.

If y ou set t he Network Search option to On , the digital receiv er will check up the up-to-date channel informa- tion while searching services, but it takes a rather longer time.
24 Ser vice Search 4. Enter the symbol rate of y our desired transponder to the Symbol Rat e op tion with the numeric buttons. 5. Set the P olarization option to match to that of your de- sired transponder .
3.1 Searching for broadcasting services 25 6. Set the Modulation op tion to match to that of your de- sired transponder . If the transponder is of the D VB-S2 standar d, you should set this option to D VB-S2 QPSK or D VB-S2 8PSK . Then the FEC op tion and the Pilot option will become enabled.
26 Ser vice Search 3.2 Editing t he transponder list If you failed to receive ser vices of a transponder because it consists of wrong data, y ou can solv e it b y correcting the data. Select the Installation > SA T/TP Edit menu. T o change the data of a trans- ponder , tak e the follo wing steps: 1.

30 Preference Settings Chapter 4 Preference Settings 4.1 Language settings Y ou can select the language in which t he menu will be dis- pla yed. In addition to t hat, you can select t he language of audio track and of subtitle track. Select the Settings > Language menu.
4.1 Languag e settings 31 4.1.2 Subtitle language Set t he 1st Subtitle Language op tion and the 2nd Subtitle Lan- guage option to your desired languages. When y ou w atch a programme, if t he prog ramme has a subtitle track of t he lan- guage t hat is specified for the 1st Subtitle Language , it will be displa yed.
32 Preference Settings 4.2 Video and audio settings Y ou hav e to configure the video and audio settings appropriately for y our television set and other devices. Select the Settings > A/V Output menu. Y ou should see a screen like t he left figure.

The left figure shows a normal picture display ed in the nor mal screen. T o watch wide-screen prog rammes in the shape like the cen- tre figure, set t he Display Format option to Letter Box .

Y ou can enjoy only one source or bo th of t hem in either stereo or mono.

38 Preference Settings 4.4 P arental control In general, television prog rammes are classified according to the lev el of violence, nudity and language of t heir content. When y ou are watching a programme, you can check its pro- gramme classification on the information box.
4.5 Options for recording 39 Time item is set t o Locked , y ou ha v e to enter the PIN when accessing t he Time menu. If you enter a wrong number , y ou cannot use the menu. 4.7 Options for on-screen display 41 video, t hen you can synchronise them by adjusting the value of the Sync option. In addition, you can change the colour and size of subtitle by setting t he Font Color and Font Size options to one y ou pref er . 4.

43 Chapter 5 Ev er y Day Use 5.1 V olume control Use the V − and V + buttons to alter the v olume to a comfort- able lev el. Y ou ma y need to adjus t the v olume on y our televi- sion set too. T o tem poraril y switch off t he sound, press the button.

5.2 W atching television 45 In t he box on t he left side, select a desired initial group by putting the highlight bar on its entry , t hen all t he ser vices ha v- ing t he selected initial will be display ed in t he box on the right side.

5.5 Using time-shif t 51 The time-shif t will be reset each time y ou chang e t o another service. With the time-shift, the f ollowing oper ations are pos- sible: • T o go back in time, hold down the butt on; to go for - w ard, hold do wn t he button.
52 Organising Services Chapter 6 Organising Ser vices 6.1 Editing t he ser vices list Y ou w ould hav e got the ser vices list after ser vice search. Y ou can rename, mov e, lock or delete ser vice entries on the services list. Select the Edit Services > Edit Ser vice List menu.
6.1 Editing t he services list 53 service entries will be lis ted on t he right column. T o switch back to t he tele vision services lis t, press it again. T o change the name of a service, select the Rename and select a desired service; then t he on-screen ke yboard appears.

In fact, you can define multiple fa v ourite ser vice lists, each being a ‘group’ of chosen services.
6.2 Editing t he f avourite lists 55 Y ou can add a fa v ourite ser vice to a group by taking t he fol- lowing steps: 1. Put t he highlight bar on a desired g roup entr y in the group list and press t he OK button to select it. The high- light bar then mo v es to t he services list.

58 Recording and Pla yback 7.1.1 Instant recording T o instantl y recor d a programme y ou are w atching at present, press the button. Pressing the button will not pause the current recording like it does wit h a video recorder .
7.1 R ecording a programme 59 T o stop recording, press the button; then a box like t he left figure appears, which shows the prog ramme currently being recorded. Select recording b y using navig ation buttons then press OK button to stop the recording.

7.1 R ecording a programme 61 If y our fa v ourite programme is broadcast at w eekends and you wish to record ev ery episode of t he prog ramme, set the Mode option to Every W eekend . 6. Set the Date option to a desired date, on which t he digital receiv er will turn on.
62 Recording and Pla yback 7.1.3 Scheduling recordings using t he programme guide If the electronic programme guide is properl y provided, y ou can make timer ev ents on it. The instructions on how to make timer recordings using the electronic programme guide are as follo ws: 1.

7.3 Pla ying back a recording 65 7.2.5 T o make a new folder T o make a new folder , press t he button, t hen a new folder named GROUP # is created. Y ou can change its name in the same manner as renaming a recording.

T o resume it, press the button. • T o view t he progress bar , press the button; to hide it, press the button again. • When the progress bar is hidden, y ou can mo v e to a de- sired scene b y entering a progress percentage with the numeric buttons.
7.3 Pla ying back a recording 67 repeatedly , the pla yback speed changes. T o resume normal speed, press the button. Y ou can change the pla yback speed in 3 steps (4, 16 and 64 times) or in 6 steps (2, 4, 8, 16, 32 and 64 times).

7.4 Pla ying back a video file 69 y ellowish green $ indicates it has been partially descrambled, and a purely y ellow $ indicates it has not been descrambled at all. There are tw o w ays to fully descramble a scrambled recording so that you can pla y it back without t he subscription card later on.
70 Recording and Pla yback NOTE This digital receiver supports onl y version 3.x, 4.x, 5.x, and 6.x of the Divx format. 7.5 Formatting the hard disk If a new hard drive is installed, it must be formatted because y ou can neither record nor use time-shift wit h an unformatted hard disk.
71 Chapter 8 Fir m ware U pdate The digital receiv er has a stable and conv enient firm ware to use. How ev er , once in a while a new firm ware may be re- leased to improv e the digital receiv er .
