Press three buttons of V OL - , CD Z and >/M TUNING + simultaneusly . 4. The message “Eject” is displayed, a disc is ejected and in- serted again automatically .
26 HCD-C5 4. B ASIC OPERA TIONS OF THE TEST MODE All operations are performed using the . “R” , > “R” , ENTER/YES “R” and MENU/NO “R” . The functions of these b uttons are as follows. 5. SELECTING THE TEST MODE There are 26 types of test modes as sho wn below .
27 HCD-C5 5-1. Operating the Continuous Pla yback Mode 1. Entering the continuous playback mode (1) Set the disc in the unit. (Whichev er recordable discs or discs for playback only are av ailable) (2) Press the . “ R ” or > “ R ” button to display “ CPLA Y1MODE ” (C34).

29 HCD-C5 IOP D A T A RECORDING AND DISPLA Y WHEN OPTI- CAL PICK-UP AND NON-V OLA TILE MEMOR Y (IC195 OF BD (MD) BO ARD) ARE REPLA CED The IOP value la beled on the optical pick-up can be recorded in the non-volatile memory . By recording the value, it will eliminate the need to look at the value on the label of the optical pic k-up.
30 HCD-C5 CHECKS PRIOR T O PARTS REPLA CEMENT AND ADJUSTMENTS IN MD Before performing repairs, perform the follo wing checks to determine the faulty locations up to a certain extent. Details of the procedures are described in “ 5 Electrical Adjustments ” .
31 HCD-C5 Reading the Retry Cause Display Reading the Display: Con vert the hexadecimal displa y into binary display . If more than two causes, they will be added. Example When 42 is displayed: Higher bit : 4 = 0100 t b6 Lo wer bit : 2 = 0010 t b1 In this case, the retry cause is combined of “ CL V unlock ” and “ ader5 ” .

33 HCD-C5 SECTION 5 ELECTRICAL ADJUSTMENTS CD SECTION Note 1: 1. CD Block is basically designed to operate without adjustment. There- fore, check each item in order given. 2. Use YEDS-18 disc (3-702-101-01) unless otherwise indicated. 3. Use an oscilloscope with more than 10M Ω impedance.

37 HCD-C5 5. USING THE CONTINUOUSL Y RECORDED DISC * This disc is used in focus bias adjustment and error rate check. The following descr ibes how to create a continuous recording disc. 1. Insert a disc (blank disc) commercially av ailable. 2 . Press the .
38 HCD-C5 6-4. A uto Check This test mode performs CREC and CPLA Y automatically for mainly checking the characteristics of the optical pick-up. T o perform this test mode, the laser po wer must first be c hecked. Perform Auto Check after the laser power check and Iop compare.
39 HCD-C5 9. Pr ess the ENTER/YES “ R ” button to display “ EFB = MO- P ” . Then, the optical pick-up mov es to the pit area automatically and servo is imposed. 10. Observe the wav eform of the oscilloscope, and check that the specified v alue is satisfied.
40 HCD-C5 7. INITIAL SETTING OF ADJUSTMENT V ALUE Note: Mode which sets the adjustment results recorded in the non-v olatile memory to the initial setting v alue. Ho w e v er the results of the temperature compen- sation of fset adjustment will not change to the initial setting value.
41 HCD-C5 6. Press the . “ R ” or > “ R ” b utton so that the reading of the laser power meter becomes the specif ied value, press the ENTER/YES “ R ” button to sa ve it. Note: Do not perform the emission with 8.4 mW more than 15 seconds continuously .
42 HCD-C5 Pr ocedure: 1. Connect an oscilloscope to CN105 pin 4 (TE) and CN105 pin 6 (VC) on the BD (MD) board. 2. Load a disc (any av ailable on the market). (Refer to Note 1) 3. Press the M “ R ” b utton to move the optical pick-up outside the pit.

44 HCD-C5 16. A UTO GAIN CONTR OL OUTPUT LEVEL ADJUSTMENT Be sure to perform this adjustment when the optical pick-up is replaced. If the adjustment results becomes “ Adjust NG! ” , the optical pick-up may be faulty or the servo system circuits may be abnormal.
