First things first - 17 If you need to power down the computer for a short while, but don’t want to completely shut it down, you can put it into Hibernate by pressing the power button. You can also put the computer in sleep mode by pressing the sleep hotkey < Fn > + < F4 >.
18 - First things f irst T aking care of your AC adapter Here are some ways to take care of your AC adapter: • Do not connect the adapter to any other device. • Do not step on the power cord or place heavy object s on top of it. Carefully route the power cord and any cables away from foot traffic.

Using the keyboard - 3 1 U SING THE KEYBOARD The keyboard has full-sized keys and an embedded numeric keypad, separate cursor, lock, Windows, function and special keys. Lock keys and embedd ed numeric keypad The keyboard has three lock keys which you can toggle on and off.
32 - Using the keyboard Hotkeys The computer employs hotkeys or key combinations to access most of the computer's controls like screen brightness and volume output. To activate hotkeys, press and hold the < Fn > key before pressing the other key in the hotkey combination.
Using the keyboard - 3 3 < Fn > + < F6 > Display off T urns the display screen back light off to save power . Press any key to return. < Fn > + < F7 > T ouchpad toggle T urns the built-in touchpad on and of f. < Fn > + < F8 > S peaker toggle T urns the speakers on and off.
34 - Using the keyboard Windows keys • The keyboard has two keys that per form Windows-specific functions. Key Description Windows key Pressed alone it returns to the S tart screen. It can also be used with other keys for special functions, please check Windows Help.
Touchpad - 35 T OUCHPAD T ouchp ad basics The touchpad controls the arrow (or 'cursor') on t he screen. As you slide your finger across the t ouchpad, the cursor will foll ow this movement. Note: The touchpad is sensitive to finger movement; the lighter the touch, the better the response.
36 - Touchpad • Drag : Press and hold the bottom left corner of the touchp ad, or tap twice anywhere on the touchtap, then slide a second finger across the touchpad to select all items in an area. T ouchp ad gestures Windows 8 and many applications support touchpad gestures that use one or more fingers.
Acer Backup Ma nager - 37 A CER B ACKUP M ANAGER Acer Backup Manager is a utility that enables you to do a variety of backup functions each accomplished in only three simple steps. You can even set these functions to automatically recur as often as your like.
38 - Acer Backup Manager • Back Up My Files : Select files to back up. • Image My Drive : Create a backup file for the entire drive. Y ou can burn this file to a DVD, save them to another drive on your computer*, or save them to removable media (i.
Acer Backup Ma nager - 39 If you wish to change your settings at any time, go to the Acer Backup Manager profiles screen. To get there from the Acer Backup Mana ger welcome screen, click Launch My Backup Profiles . From here you can edit or delete existing backup profiles.
40 - Recovery R ECOVERY If you are having trouble with your computer, and the frequently asked questions (see page 88 ) do not help, you can 'recover' your computer - i.e. return it to an earlier state. This section describes the recovery tools available on your computer.
Recovery - 41 Note: Make sure you have a USB drive with a capacity of at least 16 GB. 1. From Sta r t , type 'Recovery' and then click Acer Recovery Management in the list of apps.
42 - Recovery opens. Make sure Copy contents from the reco very partition to the recovery drive is selected. This provides the most complete and safest recovery backup.
Recovery - 43 • Make sure your USB drive has enough capacity before continuing. The recovery backup requires at least 16 GB of storage 4. Y ou will be shown the backup progress on the screen. 5. Follow the process until it completes. 6. After creating the recovery backup, you can choose to delete the recovery information on your computer .

Battery pack - 6 5 Conditioning a new battery pack Before you use a battery pack for the first time, there is a conditioning process that you should follow: 1. Insert the new battery without turning the computer on. 2. Connect the AC adapter and fully charge the battery .
