8 Slingbox User Guide About the included cables You probably won’ t need to use all of the cables included wi th your Slingbox. The way in wh ich you connect the Slingbo x depends on the type of entertainment and networking equip ment you want to conn ect.
Slingbox User Guide 9 About the connections IR Control cable If you have a cable box, satellite receiver, DVR, or other external device, the Slingb ox uses this cable to control these external device s, just as you d o with your remote control. This cable sends remote control signals from the Slingbox to your cable/satellite b ox or DVR.

22 Slingbox User Guide SlingPlayer software installation Follow these ste ps to install the software for your Slingbox. 1. Insert the su pplied CD into you r computer. If the Instal lShield Wizard does not automatically start, run the “Install.exe” fi le on the installation CD.

Slingbox User Guide 29 SlingPlayer setup step s Television source If you connected an externa l device to the Slingbox, choose the type on this screen. It’s important that you choose the correct device, so its remote control code can be used by the Slingbox.
30 Slingbox User Guide IR control setup The Slingbox attempts to communic ate with your external device on this screen using the supp lied IR control cable. Th e test is per- formed using a button that will communica te with your device. Click the bu tton beneath the video window to test the IR conne c- tion.

Enter or select a channel beneath the video window and then click Change Channel to test your settin gs.
32 Slingbox User Guide Name and password setup Give your Slingbox a catch y name, if you like, or use the provided name of “My Slingbox.” If you have more than on e Slingbox in your home, give each a unique name so they’re easily recog - nized. Click Next after you name your Slingbox.
Slingbox User Guide 33 SlingPlayer setup step s Passwords The Slingbox offers two levels of password protection. You must enter each password a se cond time to verify entry. • The first allows you to require entry of a password to view your television usin g your Slingbox.
34 Slingbox User Guide Remote viewing setup If you plan to watc h your Slingbox outside of your h ome network, check the box on this screen. Otherwise, click Next to conclude setup.
Slingbox User Guide 35 SlingPlayer setup step s Configuring your router Your router must be co nfigured if you plan to watch your Slingbox outside of your local network. To watch your Slingbox remotely, a “port” must be opened on your router. Opening a port is often called “port fo rwarding.
36 Slingbox User Guide Help with port forwarding Click “Help set up port forwarding on my router” to be taken to the Sling Media port forwarding setup process, which helps you configure yo ur router by make an d model. Follow th e on-screen steps and then return to the setup process.

42 Slingbox User Guide Watching your Slingbox Watching your Slin gbox inside your home is as easy as starting the SlingPlayer and pressing start. Starting the SlingPlayer Double click the Launch SlingPlayer shortcut on your desktop. If you have only one Slingb ox, click start and you will be watchi ng TV right away.

As you use the Sl ingPlayer appli cation, you may want to “dock” the video and SlingRemote on one side of your compute r screen. For example, you’re surfing the Web or writing an e -mail and want to watc h TV at the sa me time.

It can be a unique design o r drawing, or even a favorite picture . When you add the pict ure, it appears as a channel logo, along wi th your other favorite channels.
