2 Internet Con nection Wizard This d evic e offers a qu ick and s impl e conf ig uration through the use of a wizard. This chapter d escrib es how to use the wi zard to co nfi gure the i nternet setti ngs. Please refer t o Chapter 6 in order to c onfi gure the more a dvanced features of th e device.

3 Wi-F i Prote cted Se tup W izard Wi-Fi Protecte d Set up is a f eature that lo cks the w irel ess securit y set tings and prevents t he settin gs from being chan ged by any n ew external regi strar usin g its PIN. Devic es can stil l be added to the w irel ess n etwork usi ng Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
Add a Wireles s Devic e Click o n Basic -> Wireless and click on t he Add Wireless Device Wizard button. 4.1 Hom e Device All of your Internet and network co nnecti on d etails are dis played on thi s pa ge. The firmware versio n is als o di spl ayed here. - Mode : The transmission standar d bei ng used by t he c lie nt. V al ues are 11a, 11b, 11g, or 11n for 80 2.11 a, 80 2.11 b, 802. 11g, or 8 02.1 1n respecti vel y . - Rate : The actual transmissio n rate of the c li ent in m egabits per sec ond. - Signal : This is a relative measure of si gnal q ual ity .

Local : The IP address and, wh ere appropriate, port n umber o f the l ocal appli cation. NAT : The port numb er of the LAN -sid e ap pli catio n as vi ewe d by t he WAN-side appli cation.

Subnet Mask: S pecif y the sub net mask for thi s IP address, whic h is assi gned by your ISP . Default Gateway: Sp ecify t he IP address of the defa ult gatewa y , whi ch is assigne d by your IS P . Primary / Secondary DNS Address: Spe cify the primary and second ary IP address, w hic h is a ssi gne d by your ISP .
Dynamic IP Address (DHCP) Configuration The WAN interface can be c onf igure d as a DHCP C li ent i n whi ch the ISP pr ovides the IP address t o the devi ce. T his is a lso known as Dy namic IP . Select t he Dynamic IP (DHCP) from the My I nternet Connectio n drop-d own list.

MTU : The Maximum T ran smi ssio n Un it (MTU) i s a parameter that dete rmines the largest packet size (in bytes) that the router wi ll send to the WAN. If LAN devices send larger packets, the router wi ll break t hem into small er packets. Ideall y , you shou ld set thi s to match the MTU of the connecti on to your ISP .
PPTP (Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol) The WAN i nterfac e can be conf igur ed as PPTP . PPTP (Point to Point T unneli ng Protocol) uses a v irtual private network to con nect to your ISP .

4.3 Fi rewal l Virtual S erver The V irtual S erver option gi ves Internet users access to servi ces on your LA N. This feature is usef ul for hosti ng onli ne servi ces such as FTP , Web , or game servers. For each Virtu al Server , you def i ne a pub lic port o n your router for redirecti on to an int ernal LA N IP A ddress an d LAN port.
Special Applicat ion An appl icati on ru le is u sed to open sin gl e or mu lti pl e ports on your router when the router se nses data sent to the I nternet on a t rigger port or port range. An appli cation r ule appl i es to al l computers on your i nternal network.
Port Fo rwarding Multi pl e conne ctio ns are requi red by som e appl icatio ns, su ch as i nternet games , video co nferenc ing, Internet tel epho ny , and others. These app licat ions have diffi cul ti es worki ng through NA T (Network Add ress T ranslati on).
Access Control The Acc ess Control sectio n allo ws you to control acces s i n and out o f devices on your net work. Use this feature a s P arental Controls to only gran t access to approved sites, l imit w eb access bas ed on time or dates, and/or bl ock access from appli cati ons s uch as peer-to-peer uti li ties or games.
Specify a pol ic y name an d then cli ck on the Next b utton to c onti nue. Select a sch edule from the drop-down list: Always or Never , or you may defin e a new sche dul e. Clic k on the Next button to conti nue. Select a ma chi ne to w hich t he poli cy ap pli es.

Schedul es Click on the Sch edules link in t he navigation m enu. Sched ul es can be created for use w it h enforcin g r ules . F or example, i f you want to restri ct web a ccess to Mon- Fri f rom 3pm t o 8pm, you could create a schedu le select in g M on, T u e, W e d, Thu, and Fri and enter a Start Ti me of 3p m and End Tim e of 8pm.

When this optio n is en abled , the router restri cts t he flow o f outbo und traffic so as not to exceed t he WAN upl ink bandwi dth.
Connection Type : By d efault, t he router automatical ly determi nes whether the underly in g connecti on i s an xDSL/Frame -relay netw ork or som e other connecti on type (s uch a s cabl e mod em or Ethernet), and it displ ays the resu lt as D etected xDS L or Fr ame Relay Network.
MAC Add ress Fi lter This feature is use d to restri ct certain MAC address from accessi ng the Internet. These fi lt ers can b e use d for sec urin g and restr icti ng your network. Configure MAC Filte ring : Select one of t he o ptions from th e drop- down l ist .
