Introduction Field service operation and warranty issues Siemens can pro vide compet ent, well trained field ser vice representatives t o pro vide technical guidance and advisory assistance for t he installation, overhaul, repair and maint enance of Siemens equipment, proces ses and systems.
Receiving, handling and stora ge Introduction This portion of the instruction manual covers the r eceiving, handling and s torage instructions for a type 38-3AH3 vacuum circuit br eaker shipped separat ely from the switchgear .
4. Notify Siemens medium-v oltage customer service immediately of any damage, at +1 (800) 347-6659 or +1 (919) 365-2200 outside the U.S. 5. Arrange for a carrier inspection of t he damage immediately . Important : Do not move t he equipment from the place it was se t when unloading.
Receiving, handling and stora ge St orage procedure 1. Whenever pos sible, ins tall the circuit break er in its assigned switchgear enclosure f or storage. Follo w instructions contained in the type GM38 38 kV metal-clad switchgear instruction manual, E50001-F710- A236-V1-4A00.
Inst allation chec k s and functional t ests Introduction This section pro vides a description of the inspections, checks and tests t o be performed on the circuit br eaker prior t o operation in the metal-clad switchgear .
Inst allation chec k s and functional t ests Removal from cell in outdoor non-w alk - in enclosures or for indoor switchgear installed on a raised pad Removal of the cir cuit break er from a non- walk -in outdoor-switchgear as sembly is similar to r emoval of a circuit br eak er at floor level wit h several additional st eps.
Inst allation chec k s and functional t ests 5. Move t he circuit-break er release latch (on the floor of the cell near the right side of the circuit br eaker) t o the lef t and pull the circuit br eaker out fr om the DISC ONNECT position. The circuit break er can now be removed fr om the cubicle and rolled out ont o the two extension rails.
Inst allation chec k s and functional t ests The suggested pr ocedure t o engage the racking mechanism is as f ollows: 1. The circuit br eaker must be OPEN. (The racking shroud canno t be mov ed if the circuit br eaker is CL OSED.) 2. Hold the sock et-end of the crank in one hand and the crank handle in the ot her hand.
Inst allation chec k s and functional t ests Note: Secondary-disconnect terminals are numbered 1-16, fr om right to left. The automatic spring-char ging featur es of the circuit br eaker must be c heck ed. Control pow er is requir ed for aut omatic spring-charging t o take place.

Maint enance Hazardous voltage and high-speed moving parts. Will cause death, serious injury and proper ty damage. Do not by-pas s interlocks or otherwise make int erlocks inoperative. Interloc ks must be in operation at all times. Read instruction manuals, obser ve saf ety instructions and use qualified personnel.
Maint enance The use of unauthorized parts in the repair of the equipment, or tampering by unqualified personnel can result in hazardous conditions, that can result in death, serious injur y or property damage. Follow all saf ety instructions contained herein.
Maint enance Inspection items and tests Primar y-power path checks Cleanlines s check Inspection of primary disconnects St ored-energy operat or -mechanism checks Maint enance and lubrication F astene.
Maint enance Removal from switc hgear Prior to performing an y inspection or maintenance chec ks or tests, the circuit break er mus t be remo ved from t he switchgear . The "Installation checks and initial functional tests" section (ref er to page 8) describes the remo val procedur e in detail.
Inspection of primar y disconnects Figure 38: Primary disconnect in mated position shows the primary-disconnect contact-fingers engaged. When the contacts are mated with t he switchgear primar y-stud assembly , there is f orceful contact distributed ov er a wide area.

Maint enance Electrical close and trip check (control pow er required) A check of the cir cuit-break er control circuits is performed while the unit is still connected t o the switchgear by t he split- plug jumper . This check is made with the circuit br eaker ener gized by contr ol power from the switc hgear .
Maint enance High-potential t ests The next series of tests (vacuum int egrity and insulation) inv olve use of high-voltage test equipment. The cir cuit break er under test should be inside a suitable test barrier equipped with warning lights.
Maint enance Vacuum-int egrity test procedure 1. Obser ve saf ety pr ecautions listed in the DANGER and W ARNING advisories. Construct the proper barrier and warning light system. 2. Ground the frame of the cir cuit break er , and ground eac h pole not under test.
Maint enance 7. Connect all points of the secondar y disconnect with a shorting wire. Connect the shorting wire to the high- pot ential lead of the high-voltage tester and g round the cir cuit-break er housing. Starting with zero v olts, gradually increase the t es t voltage t o 1,500 volts rms, 60 Hz.
