8 109821_0508 5. Fuel, Lubricant & Coolant 5.1 Fuel (1) Fuel Select ion The following specific character istics are required for the diesel fuel. 1. Must be free from minute dust particles. 2. Must have adequate viscosity . 3. Must have high cetane value.

12 109821_0508 (5) Batter y Cable Connection Check the battery cable connections for looseness or cor- rosion. A loose cable connection will result in hard engine starting or insufficient battery char ge. The battery cables must be tightened securely .

14 109821_0508 (2) Coolant T emperature The engine performance is adversely affected if engine coolant temperature is too hot or too cold. The normal coolant temperat ure is 75 to 90°C (167 to 194°F).
109821_0508 15 (5) Abnormal Engine Noise Pay attention to the noise from the engine or other relat ed parts, confirming normal operating noise. (6) Check the Exhaust Color Check exhaust color as li sted in Section 6.3(2)3. (7) Electrical Sys t em Don't turn the key to th e “O FF” position while engine is under load or at full rpm.

18 109821_0508 (3) Coolant Chang e The coolant must be changed at int e rval s of 6 months. Degraded or dirty coolant will lead to engine overheating. Coolant draining 1. Remove the radiator cap. Open the drain cock at the radi ator lower part to drain the coolant from the radiator .
109821_0508 19 Proce dure: 1. T urn the fuel lever to the closed position until it stops to shut off the fuel. 2. Loosen the ring nut, remove the cup together w ith the element, and drain the fuel. 3. Clean the cup, install the el ement and tighten to the filter body with the ring nut.
20 109821_0508 Specific gravity of the bat teries The battery charge condition is judged by the electrolyte specific gravity measurement. Periodically measure the electro lyte grav ity of the b atter- ies. For the internal check foll ow the equipment manufac- turer's standard.
