INTRODUCTION 3 Thank you for purchasing a SEAL ® I mage ® 6500 Laminator . We have designed the SEAL Image 6500 to give you y ears of r eliable ser vice. As you become familiar with your laminator , y ou will appreciate the high quality of its production and the excellence in its engineering design.
ELECTRICAL SPECIFICA TIONS 4 Connect the laminator in accordance with the details given on the identification plate attached to the r ear of the laminator . Refer also to the T echnical S pecifications page for more information. Single Phase V ersion: (Part No.
WORKSP ACE REQUIREMENTS 5 • Keep the area around y our laminator clear with adequate space around it so you can feed, receiv e and trim mounted and/or laminated images. • An area 15' x 11' (4.5m x 3.4m) is the smallest area r ecommended.
ENVIRONMENT CONDITIONS 6 The following environmental conditions ar e ideal for the best operation of the laminator . AMBIENT TEMPERA TURE The best temperature for the SEAL Image 6500 is between 50°F and 86°F (10°C and 30°C). Do not expose the laminator to direct sunlight as output quality may be affected.
UNP ACKING, SET -UP AND INST ALLA TION 7 O nly skilled personnel should perform installation. R ead and comply with all warnings and follow the proper installation procedur es and safety guidelines. • Refer to outside of crate for U ncrating/Recrating instructions.
UNP ACKING, SET -UP AND INST ALLA TION 8 UNP ACKING YOUR LAMINA TOR • Remo ve the transport packing and the plastic shrink- wrap the laminator is wrapped in to avoid moisture penetration. • Remo ve the accessor y kit package from the top of the laminator , which includes the necessar y tools for installation.
IMPORT ANT SAFEGUARDS 9 SAFETY SYMBOLS USED ON THE LAMINA TOR IMPOR T ANT! Read and make sur e you understand these safety and operating guidelines. Rotating Parts: Risk of Injury F ailure to use caution near rotating r ollers could r esult in physical injur y.
SAFETY FEA TURES 10 The SEAL Image 6500 Laminator is designed with safety and protective devices with the user ’ s safety of utmost consideration. Ho wever , following safe operating guidelines is still the responsibility of the operator .
LAMINA TOR FEA TURES 11 Features 1. Control panel system • F or independent control of pressure, temperature and read-out of speed and material usage. 2. Shim Wheels (4) • Dial-in roller height adjustment for fast and accurate roller nip set ting, which adjusts for the thickness of the material to be processed.
FRONT CONTROL P ANEL 12 1. Air P ressure G auge: I ndicates the PSI reading for the downwar d pressure of the top main roller . The standard setting for the normal operation is 35-55 PSI. 2. Air Regulator Knob: A djusts the downwar d pressure of the top roller .
BACK CONTROL P ANEL 13 1. Air P ressure G auge: I ndicates the PSI reading for the downwar d pressure of the top pull roller . The standard setting for the normal operation is 35-55 PSI. 2. Air Regulator Knob: A djusts the downward pressur e of the top pull roller .
CLUTCH CONTROL P ANEL 14 The Clutch Control P anel is located on the left-side cabinet when facing the rear of the laminator . The operator can adjust the amount of tension that is directly applied to the laminate betw een the main and pull rollers.
TOP MOTOR CONTROL P ANELS 15 F igur e 8. T op Motor Control P anel The M otor Control P anels are centrally located on the top of both side cabinets. This location provides easy access from all sides of the laminator .
16 CHECKING OPERA TION After you ar e familiar with the control panels and their functions, check all operations. Check the Main Power • P ress the Stand-B y switch up and the front and back displays on the control panels should be lit. • The center red switch on both top cabinet control panels should be illuminated.
SET -UP AND OPERA TION 17 TEMPERA TURE SETTINGS • Select the film(s) that you will use on the top (and bottom) of the images. • Check which temperature setting is recommended for y our SEAL ® B rands material (see literatur e enclosed in y our material box).
SET -UP AND OPERA TION LOADING A ROLL OF MA TERIAL • T urn the unwind brake fully towards y ou so there is no brake tension on the unwind shaft (until no gap is visible between the unwind brake and the lock collar). • S wing out the desired unwind shaft towards y ou and slide a roll of material onto the unwind shaft.
SET -UP AND OPERA TION 19 PIVOTING T ABLE USE FOR WEBBING • F irst, remove the r oll easel shaft from its brackets and set aside. • P ull out both retaining plungers of the roll easel brackets and pivot the brackets down and forward as sho wn in F igure 12.
SET -UP AND OPERA TION 20 SETTING THE UNWIND BRAKE TENSION R efer to the Featur es P age for identification. IMPOR T ANT! The brake tension greatly affects the smooth flow of the laminating film. • Adjust the unwind brake so that it applies sufficient tension to the laminate.
SET -UP AND OPERA TION 21 AUTO-RUN OPERA TION • The continuous-run operation allows the user to set the direction of the roller rotation and adjust the r oller speed by turning either of the Speed Control knobs on the tops of the cabinets.
FEEDING IMAGES 22 BASIC STEPS TO FEEDING IMAGES NO TE: For good r esults, the process requir es that the images be fed through corr ectly. • Make sure the leading edge of each image is flat all the way across or any wrinkles or creases in the image will show when laminated – perhaps even magnified.
WEBBING FILMS WITHOUT A RELEASE LINER 23 The following ar e the basic webbing procedures for w ebbing films without a release liner: • Select films slightly wider than the image to allo w for a border without film waste. A bor der of 1/8" to 1/4" (3-6mm) is adequate.
WEBBING FILMS WITH A RELEASE LINER 24 The following ar e the basic webbing procedures for w ebbing films with a release liner: • Select films slightly wider than the image to allo w for a border without film waste. A bor der of 1/8" to 1/4" (3-6mm) is adequate.
DECALING (HEA T -ACTIV A TED) 25 This process involves applying a hot film to the top and a cold backing adhesive to the bottom of the graphic. This process can be used to create self-adhe- sive images for mounting down onto v arious sub- strates.
DECALING (PRESSURE-SENSITIVE) 26 This process involves applying a cold pr essure-sensi- tive ov er-laminate to the top and a cold pressure- sensitive mounting adhesive to the bottom of a graphic. This process can be used to create self- adhesive images for mounting down onto v arious substrates.
MOUNTING 27 This process involves mounting pr eviously prepar ed decals onto a substrate. N o films or adhesives are r equired for this process. TO MOUNT DECALS ONTO A SUBSTRA TE • Place the mounting board on a flat surface.
ENCAPSULA TING 28 This process involves completely sealing an image between two films. F ollow the webbing instructions for films specific for your location.
29 PRE-COA TING BOARDS This process is used to coat substrates with a self- adhesive coating onto which images can be mounted. Preparation: IMPOR T ANT! Ensur e that the Shim Wheel settings of the rollers corr espond to the board thickness.
LOW -TEMP VINYL TRANSFER 30 This process involves transferr ing an image onto a flexible vinyl. T op roller temperature and amount of main roller downwar d pressur e is dependent on the type of toners. U se the minimum amount of pressur e r equired for successful transfer .
